I managed to get 4 straight hours of sleep followed by another hour and 15 minutes. I can hardly believe it! Had my snack and now I'm laying here waiting to get sleepy enough to fall back to sleep. Feeling overwhelmingly relaxed and peaceful. :) Today is DH's birthday so I'm excited for real wake-up time (4 more hours or so) when I can start spoiling him!!
I was so excited I only woke up once last night and went right back to sleep. It's a miracle. Happy Birthday to your DH!

@BeesEverywhere thank you!!! I can't wait to post pics later!!! @BiggerinRealLife‌ looks like you had an amazing shower and you looked beautiful too.
  • Alivia? What's wrong with Olivia? Half the world pronounces it with more of an "a" sound anyway.

  • @ColleenSwerb‌ That is the reason I want the K'tan. I don't have a toddler to wrangle but it still seems alot easier to do when you are out and about than wrapping a Moby. I like that the Moby is one size fits all but I will probably be the only one to use it. I think I am leaning towards the k'tan.

Maybe DH and I are just "special" but I have the Moby and he got the K'tan (he hated all the wrapping) we tried putting Lucas in the K'tan and almost killed him, literally almost dropped him. DH immediately wanted to return it.

    I know this isn't everyone's experience but I wasn't a fan!

  • I wish my dog didn't insist on getting up at the same time every day to go out and be fed. I wanted to sleep in, and now I'm wide awake. Boo! Oh well it's not like I sleep all that restfully anyway. I see a nap on my future. Happy Sunday, ladies!

So did AggieFroggie's LB post an announcement after she posted her birth story already? At first I read her post and thought, "ANOTHER ACCIDENTAL HOME BIRTH?!" But then realized it was the same person.

Ugh I'm sorry! Zantac has been a great help but I've had a few days where it's just not enough. I take a couple tums smoothies and that helps until my next Zantac dose.

  • Looks like some LBs are slacking....

Anyone else have family members/friends freak out when you say you haven't and don't plan on taking birthing classes?

I had my baby shower yesterday which was so much fun but I was asked if I has taken classes and I was honest and said no.

Their response. "this is not something you can go into blind! You can't do it without taking classes!"

My mother was also shocked to hear this.

The classes cost about $100 each and I am working full time and sharing a car with DH who is working 50-60 hour weeks. I don't have the time and i'd rather pay bills with my money.

I feel like I've helped with many animal births, heard stories from friends, learned from my midwives, and the Internet plenty to get me through. I know it's going to be hard and it's going to hurt... I'm not dilusional. I just think I can do it without taking classes....

Any one else getting reprimanded for not preparing with classes?

I didn't have the same experience, but I didn't take a class. Honestly if they were free I would have done it. Ours were almost 400. No thanks! Especially when things can go so opposite of what you learned/planned for. I did my research on c sections, and mine still ended up being totally different.

I knew what to expect in different situations and I was just fine. I think it's more important to take a baby care class than birthing class!

I dont think the classes are that important. You'll be fine!

  • I'm not doing a birthing class, but then, my doctor's been talking RCS for months now. I've googled all of the labor things and attempted to watch some videos, but "going in blind" might be a blessing in disguise. Especially if you are the anxious type. For me, knowing what could go wrong and how I "should" be doing things will probably just cause me to freak out. So my plan is to deal with whatever comes up as it is happening and stay in the moment.

  • The classes are just a convenient way for some people to learn. There is nothing you learn there that you can't learn in a book or from you tube. For me it was a good way to make DH pay attention because I knew he wasn't going to go out and read books on his own, but I didn't really learn that much. The most beneficial parts for me were practicing decision making with your partner and actually trying out the coping techniques. The rest was stuff I'd already read about. You will be fine.

  • Classes were useless for me because I read and researched everything myself.  They were, however, useful to get DH on board and learning about stuff.

As long as you do some learning one way or the other (at home, online, class, books whatever), I think you're good.  I mean, yes, people have been having babies forever, but also in the past you would have seen and helped with the process for older female relatives prior to doing it yourself.

  • Anchorman 2...yeah...NOT good. Don't waste your time. I want those 2 hours of my life back.
Noooo I was so excited for it!!
I don't think it was terrible, but it certainly paled in comparison to the first.
I thought it was really bad. I think I laughed twice. Most of the jokes were just ridiculous rehashes from the first one. I was looking forward to it too. Bummer.

  • Thanks guys.

I think that classes would probably just make me anxious. And cost too much and are inconvenient to my schedule.

I'm prepared for pain, pooping, peeing and maybe tearing.

I am not dead set on labor going a specific way and would rather decide based on how I feel at the time and how things are going.

  • I think there's a difference between being "dead set" on how you want labor to go and being well informed. If you don't have a plan, or even a preference on a lot of things (some things that you might never even think of unless someone brings it up) it's easy to just go with whatever you're told at the time.
For me, I wanted to be well informed and have plans and backup plans discussed with DH and my doc so that I don't have to feel forced into anything on the spot. That doesn't mean we've accounted for every scenario, but the research I've done through birth class, reading a variety of books, watching documentaries, discussions here, articles, talking with friends IRL who have young ones, etc. have aided me with being comfortable with whatever happens, but strong in standing up for the choices I CAN make.
