  • My body pump instructor come over to me to make sure I was modifying, was doing ok, etc...then proceeded to ask when I was due....I said May.... She seemed legitimately shocked and proceeded to tell me that must be one huge baby! As if I didn't feel a little uncomfortable already at the gym....haven't been back to that class since.

  • I don't have a very defined bump and I'm overweight to begin with. Anyway, a coworker asked how far along I am and when I told her 29 weeks she looked at me and said "That far? Where is it?"

Then today I was shopping for bras at Motherhood and when I told the sales girl the size I wear in their bras she just kind of went "whoa!" and then got all apologetic. It was just kind of funny, I wasn't really bothered.

  • I keep having a woman at work tell me to meditate and say "ohm" whenever my feet cramp or things are stressful.

And it bothers me to no end that people keep mentioning how small I am, because I'm not that small; I'm just not petite so LO has a bit more room than shorter women.

I had a "sorry we can't help you" when I was about 16 weeks. I'm a 32G to begin with so god knows what I'll be when my milk comes in :(

  • So after my trip to Wal-Mart I thought this belonged on this thread..
What about "the way people look at you" ?

As of the past couple weeks I've been getting a lot of dirty looks.. they don't say anything but they look at me horribly. This old couple in the waiting room at the lab yesterday were staring at my belly with the worst disapproving faces ever. Everytime I'm at a store it's the same thing.... they look at my husband then at me then at my belly... it's a very wtf moment in my head.

I wonder sometimes if it's cause I look underage.. I'll be 25 when LO is born but I've been told I look 16 sometimes.. and DH is 31... so I imagine that's why I get dirty looks..

It's driving me crazy.. I wish people would give me happy smiles and what not but eh what can you do?
*grumpy old person face*  How dare you flaunt your procreation in my Walmart, you clearly fertile woman, you!  </silliness>

Hopefully they're just recovering from dental work or something and not actually meaning to angry face at you.

I've had so many people comment that growing a baby (especially now that he's moving all the time) is like "Aliens". It was funny the first couple of times, but now it's like, "Dude, I'm not a disgusting, slimy, shrimp/spider looking creature."

  • I went to the spa to chill out, and I was talking to the spa lady.
Lady: When did you get married?
    Me: July

    A bit later...
Lady: How far along are you?
    Me: 28 weeks
Lady: Oh, did you get married because of the baby?

I get that the timing is close (got pregnant mid August).  But seriously, WHO ASKS THAT?

I've started to get some of those comments. My DH's grandmother commented today that it's probably better anyway that the baby is smaller because it'll be easier, and then she can grow after she's born. WTF, lady? My doctors are perfectly happy with her growth but thanks for making me feel like I'm not providing proper nourishment for my baby.

Exactly. I get that I'm small, but baby is fine. Small babies run in both our families and I was only 6lb 8oz when I finally got prized outta there at 42 weeks. The ladies on my side of the family also don't carry a lot of amniotic fluid and i had no apetite until past 20 weeks. My belly really is all baby. People need to stop making me paranoid.

  • This is one I never expected. DH took me to the ER yesterday with pain and I had been throwing up for 24 hours straight. They call up to L&D and are told to send me up there right away. So up we go. When we get there I say the ER was told we need to be seen here . The nurse looked at me and asked ... Are you pregnant ?

  • At the dog park today one of the older men (late 70s) heard me say to one of the ladies I have about 10weeks left and he leaned over and said 'oh I thought you just had a few too many beers'.
I just stood there for a moment when one of the ladies spoke up and said I look super cute pregnant. Why can't more people be like her!
  • I havestory and countless annoying weight ones.

FIL: Did you pick a name?
    DH: Yes, Kaelyn.
FIL: Might I suggest some *better* Irish names?
Me: No, we have already decided.
FIL: Well, how about X, X, X, X (i dont even remember what he said) instead. They are SO much better.

We havent heard from him since, but he's "mad" at us now that he saw the name WE PICKED on the nursery.

That's the name we picked too! DH loves it!

  • I went with my DH this weekend to get his tdap shot and the clinician on duty told me one horrid labor story after another. My DH and I just looked at each other and had a laugh later. She was soo clueless on how in appropriate it was.
  • Went to H&M yesterday to look for maternity pants. when i got to the dressing room the tiny little girl said "you can go right in there! Oh, actually the bigger room is open (meaning the handicap one i assume) if you want!"

i'm just going to tell myself it was because anyone would want a more spacious changing room...not cause i'm huge.

Ugh people are so inappropriate. DH and I got married last May, so we were already married 4 months when we got pregnant. People STILL ask if we were trying (awkward). I think people ask me because I'm 26 and a teacher, and DH is in a similarly paying field (so we are youngish and not exactly rolling in it, so people are quick to assume the pregnancy was accidental). People are dumb.

  • I don't really have anything to contribute that I've heard myself but my cousin is just a couple years younger than me and honestly looks 12. She's 4'9" and maybe 90 lbs soaking wet. On her honeymoon her and her husband went to Disney and people assumed her husband was her father and would give her children's menus at restaurants. She came home pregnant and the amount of dirty looks she would get was unbelievable.

When we were first announcing to everyone that we were pregnant we got a lot of the same comments : "oh I figured by 4 you'd know how they were made! " " at least you had an oops after you were married this time" I just smiled through gritted teeth.. they don't know how long baby #4 was on the raidar before he finally came..

and then my son's preschool teacher commented on my birthday on fb.. " Oh wow- 4 kids and you're only 29.wow."

and that's it.. I replied, "yep that's what happens when you start at 19.." some people have judgy eyes and no tact..
    I'm a 21 yo ftm - I'm hoping to have 4 kids before I'm 29!

  • My mom posted a bump pic of me on her Facebook page saying 10 weeks left. I got lots of nice compliments from her friends and my family.
But some guy I don't know says, "it looks like she's not gonna make it 10 more weeks." Dude, you realize I can see that right? I typed a few responses and deleted them before sticking with "actually I'm measuring right on but thanks for that."
My mom said he's a dad of a high school friend. Really? Why are you friends with this guy-how random!

  • I am a little overweight so have always had "the pooch." Since the beginning of my pregnancy I have had bad morning sickness, nausea and migraines and have Actually lost weight. I am 28 weeks and people have just started noticing that I am pregnant in the last 4 weeks. I all of a sudden "blossomed" and there's no denying it now, about 2 weeks ago I picked up my Granny and her friend to take them to dinner. Her friend coo enter on how much I was starting to show and my a Granny replied, "well she doesn't look pregnant, she just looks fat." It kind of hurt my feelings, but I think she was meaning that I wasn't as big and huge as I could be since I had lost weight. it just came out all wrong! Gotta love grandmas!
  • My mom's friend is a giant Debbie Downer and constantly comments with a negative remark on anything I post positive. This especially goes for anything related to my health or size. I've known this woman all my life, her kids and I have been friends from before we even started school, so I think she feels like she has a right to say what she wants.

So last week I had to do the 3hr GTT and Monday I found out I passed. I posted a FB notice saying how relieved I was because, being plus sized, this was my big fear with getting pregnant at my weight (I lost 100 pounds before my BFP to help my pregnancy odds and get in shape, so at not like I don't know diet and nutrition).

Well rather than just posting a nice "congrats" or "yay" on me passing my 3hr, she posts this:

"even though it's ok now, don't take any chances. Stay on your diet *strictly*! It can still turn on you. That baby is worth everything you can do."

Yeah, because I'm going to take my son and the 5+ years I fought to have him for granted and down an entire bag of pure sugar just because I passed my test! Give me a flippin' break!

  • Oh, I'm glad this thread got bumped too! A few days ago I made a joke on Facebook about eating my first Frosty in years. I'm lactose intolerant, but my body apparently figured out that I need the dairy while I'm pregnant, so I've actually been able to eat it for the past few months. At church on Sunday, one of the guys mentioned that he saw my post and said something about Frostys being made of petroleum products instead of dairy, so I told him that I looked up the ingredients and milk is actually first on the list. Then he went on to say, "Oh, well, you gotta be careful. There's like 300 calories in one of those." He then told me a story about a lady he knew who was really careful with what she ate while she was pregnant and only weighed one pound over her pre-pregnancy weight after she gave birth.

WTF am I supposed to say to that? Good for her? I've only gained about 13-14 pounds, but apparently he thinks I'm getting fat.

I was told that it's a good thing I haven't gained that much weight cause some women out there gain so much and never loose and then they complain about stretch marks. Hmm.. so the only reason we can get stretch marks is because of fat - not the fact that we have a BABY growing inside us!

  • I'm glad this got bumped! I have one from the weekend, but not directed at me. A FB friend gave birth to her second child last week and just announced it on FB on the weekend. Her first was a boy and this one is a girl. Everyone congratulated her and commented on the baby being beautiful, as you do. Then one person commented "Congratulations, now your family is complete with a little boy and a little girl!"

Really? You get to judge what makes other people's families complete? How nice for you. That just rubbed me the wrong way.

Ugh-this. I have two boys and am pregnant with a girl and my family was going to be complete after three kids no matter what the sex of this baby. It would have been just as complete with three boys. I get the complete comment all the time. One guy actually said, "could you imagine if it had been another boy?" My jaw dropped open and I said, "yes it would have been amazing."

My boss made a comment today about how I'd probably be happier if the baby was born sooner rather than later. Thankfully a coworker was there to step in while I gathered my thoughts and told him that it'd be better if baby cooked a bit longer. I really wanted to tell him that being born early was what led to my daughter's death, so I'll stay pregnant as long as I possibly can, thank you very much.

  • A few weeks ago we went to my husband's work party and a bunch of his coworkers found out about our pregnancy.

Well today I go into his work and a coworker from the party asks how I'm feeling. I responded that I am good but thankful that we only have 9 weeks to go.

Her response: "9 weeks!?! I thought you just found out that you're pregnant!?!"

Umm, Great. So at 26 weeks I must have just looked like a giant fatty mcfatterson at the party instead of pregnant and now I must just look like I'm auditioning for the role of the Goodyear Blimp.

Being fat and pregnant sucks ass, especially since literally no one can tell at 30 weeks that I'm even pregnant. And I am so ready to get this pregnancy done so that I can have my body back and get back to losing weight because the past nine months have all but destroyed the confidence that I spent two years building with weight loss and fitness.
