  • For transitioning at daycare, DD's teachers usually start sending her up to the next class for a little each day do she can spend time with those kids and teachers. We generally try to have her do what they do at daycare, nap and snacks on the same schedule, but that's about it. I'm always amazed at how much she's capable of when it comes to things like drinking out of a cup, cleaning up, etc -guess I baby her too much!

For bigger kids - my mom taught school for many years and would get so frustrated when it was obvious parents never even looked in the backpack for notes and homework (1st grade and kindergarten). I think it's so important for parents to be engaged and show an interest in school if only to show kids that it is important.

I don't think there is any reason to try to out-teach the teacher but if your kid has an interest in something, you should encourage that and let them learn and not stifle them. I'm thinking like, just because your kid is an early reader you shouldn't be all "no you can't have any of those books, it'll put you ahead of your class."

If I had to wear pantyhose I'd just wear pants every day. Are pants allowed?

We still have to wear hose under pants.  I mean, they can be knee highs or thigh highs, but they still have to be hose.  But I've always preferred skirt suits anyway.

Eyes on the prize, though.  Tomorrow is my last day.

Congrats on your last day-- but do you mind me asking how the eff they would know what you were wearing under your pants???  I am boggled.
If you're wearing heels, I would imagine the feet would need panty hose. Otherwise I don't know. This is crazy to me and it making me love my work's dress code.

  • I can never disassociate maxi dress with maxi pad. So when you say you wear a maxi, have lots of maxis, etc, you can guess what I'm picturing.

I've never referred to it as a "maxi pad" because I wasn't born in the 1950s.  It's "a pad" just like there is one only pill that can be referred to as "the pill".

    Nope. Packaging disagrees.

So what you are saying is that you guys are all sippin the Kool-Aid.

Alice in Wonderland is about drugs.  HEADS UP.,
Well, if that's your logic then most cartoons are based on bible study because it's mainly just about someone doing something they shouldn't and realizing it, and doing it right next time.  Learning lessons and whatnot.
You can learn to do right and wrong outside of religion. FYI
Which is exactly what I meant.  The stories that I have watched (I read that maybe there are newer ones that I haven't seen) have nothing to do with religion, just about learning lesson, which I find most cartoons do, so what make Berenstain Bears religious?
    Um, their own description?
Yes, but assuming you didn't know about this description (I did not) and you watched the show, it wouldn't stand out as being religious.  It's not really any different than most cartoons that I have seen.
I don't even know what you are talking about now. I asked if they were religiousy. Someone said no. The end.

  • Ok but I call all tissues "Kleenex" and all bandages "Band-Aids".  I also refer to almost all drug stores as "CVS".

    Vernacular, yo.

Vernacular as in you say soda, I say pop. I say maxi, you say pad.

    Same diff.

  • I consider myself truly religious.

    Geighs? GOOD.
    Scmusmorshun? GOOD.
    Sex before marriage? GOOOOOOD.

So tell me what you mean by "truly religious".  Living by the Bible?  Or just generally doing unto others as you would have done unto you?

Do unto others. Not living by the bible.

It drives me bonkers when people are making a right turn but turn into the left lane or when they are turning left and go into the right lane. TURN INTO YOUR CORRECT LANE!!!

My driving experience in Canada was such that everyone turned into their designated lanes so people turning right could turn at the same time as someone turning left and there were no accidents. Here in KS, you have to wait because you might get it hit. I don't like it. I don't like it one bit.

    Another win for Canada.

  • @mrsbutt I almost got killed when I visited VA. I walked out into a marked crosswalk on busy traffic and my SIL was all "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"

She laughed when she came to visit us and traffic cAme to an abrupt halt to let us cross the (unmarked) street and everyone waved and was happy.

So I'm guessing your kids around are 1 year old?

Isn't this the point of BMBs?  Collective freak outs about transitions to whatever the fuck comes next?
Well yeah, I guess. It just doesn't seem to be a huge deal to me. A lot of my new mommy neuroses are wearing off. Which is why I suppose I've been hanging out here. :-)

  • @mrsbadkat I'm gonna disagree with you there. Watching other people freak out has mellowed me out parenting-wise. Pre-internet I would have invented a baby bubble by now

I would have been much more mellow if we had all started on Parenting. But cruising along with the nutbags we used to have from 1st tri - 9-12? Meltdown city.

C'est vrai. Although I'm hyper aware of car seat safety now which I wouldn't have been otherwise (thanks, @elmoali)

I wish I came on here earlier.

I remember freaking out at one point because I bought Johnson & Johnson bath products and people were saying it causes cancer. So I went out and bought Burt's Bees and then like two days later that still wasn't natural enough. They were saying some other brand was better :P

This is more of a FFC than an UO, but MIL bought me a big container of some Johnson and Johnson baby wash. I like it and use it on LOs occasionally. That's not the confession. The confession is that I hide it when my sister visits as I know she'll give me crap about the dangerous toxins in it. I am cowardly.

I was trying to quote the WCM thing. WCM is to @Drea926's BMB as PTing is to our BMB.
