Re: Crafty Momma Check-In

  • Has anyone ever attempted these? I think that you just cut out squares of tulle and layer them with a rhinestone in the middle. But not for sure. Any experience?

  • My first "project" for the nursery, courtesy of a Pinterest tutorial!

Love this! I have been wanting to do this- where did you find the crystals?

  • It's NBR, but I crocheted Pottery Barn inspired knit stockings for DH and I :)

Do you have a pattern for these?! I am just learning to crochet and we need stockings! :)

Finished the quilting and just started the chenille cutting on the back of my quilt. Almost there!
This is SO AWESOME!  I never even knew it was a thing....but now I have to try it for myself.  Between sewing and crocheting, we are going to be a house full of blankets soon!

Those of you who quilt, how do you finish your quilts? I've made several quilt tops and had them machine quilted by a local long armer but it's pricey and I would rather do the the project myself! Any tips?

  • Currently making my shower invitations, knitting a blanket, sewing cushions and pillows for a window seat and making curtains. This is a pic of some artwork I made that will go above her crib:

  • @mamrotu73 thanks! Do you have a walking foot? Do you have to adjust the tension etc to go through the quilt sandwich?

@homediva, for me it depends on the pattern of the quilt.  Some quilts I will free motion quilt.  I have a special foot for that, and I usually have to practice first with a small quilt sandwich made of scrap fabric since I dont free motion quilt a lot.  Other quilts I will do some sort of straight line quilting.   I would love to have a long arm but I need to win the lottery first! :)
  • I knew looking through this thread again would make me regret putting my sewing machine away! It was housed in the baby's room and DH was getting nervous that it was such a mess so I finished up my projects last weekend, but now I want to make bibs! I am just learning how to sew, the pawprint blankie was my first one ever! 3 other lovely ladies in my life are expecting within the same timeframe as me so I made 4 of each, one for me and one to add to their baby gifts.

The paw print blanket and burpcloths will be from the pups, tag blankets for all! Only one of them know the sex so I went with green minky for the rest.

  • joytomylifex - I love your bibs!  Do you use flannel or cotton material for them?  I'd love any tips on how to make some.  :-)

For cute, fashionable ones I just use cotton, because I make paci clips and bows to match.  For functional ones, I'll use cotton on the front and flannel on the back, or both flannel.  I have a mix of both.  I just googled a bib outline, printed and used it as a template... Super easy!

I crocheted viking toques and beards for my family this year.  Here's a picture of DH wearing his while snowboarding:

And I made a little viking hat for DS.  It's hard to capture him standing still

Love these!!!  I made a viking hat for a friend's baby a few years back and it was a huge hit.  I want to make one for my LO too but we'll see if I get around to it (and I know SO would want one too...)
  • Well, I learned how to crochet a couple of weeks ago and I made about 20 hats to donate to the L&D/maternity ward at the hospital I'll be delivering at this pregnancy... A few of them: image Sadly, they didn't want any of them due to the surplus amount they already had donated earlier this winter. I hope I can find another local Montreal hospital to donate them to!
LuckySquare Please please help me! I learned to crochet as a child and have made DD1 a blanket before she was born. I'm working on a blanket for DD2 as well. The problem is I wanted to make some of these hats. I found a pattern online, tried to follow it last night= epic fail!!!!!! I ripped it out! I don't know if my needle is too small(4mm) or if the yarn is too bumpy, but I couldn't seem to dc in each stitch as I couldn't see them very well. HELP!!!!

Can you give me your patterN?

  • I bought 4oz Starbucks cups for my shower favors (tea party theme) that I want to make into candles. Anyone know how I would go about it? As far as where I can find the wax and how to melt it into these cups without it being a huge hassle and burning myself? Lol something that's meant to be melted into cups.
  • I've been getting my bib making on!

They sell candle making supplies at Hobby Lobby. :)
  • Been making up wet bags for dirty diapers and clothes. Super easy to make!
@Airynn Chica I use PUL fabric for the inside leftover from making diapers, I get it from JoAnn you can definitely get it online too. The outside is just whatever cotton I have onhand.

I also use wet bags for storing my breast pump parts in the refrigerator between uses so I don't have to wash them every time.

Sent you a PM, but I'll post the link here as well. It's a super simple pattern that has easy instructions and a very nice video to go with it by a lady named Paula Daniele, from CrochetHooksYou. Seriously, these are the first things I ever crocheted in my life, so I'm sure someone more seasoned will have no issues! https://www.crochethooksyou.com/crochet-baby-beanie-pattern/ Good luck!
Thanks ! You are right the video looks great! I was getting the beginning wrong from the start! I will attempt this after our work meeting tonight and see how it goes!

  • I made this little set for a friend... I used a baby template, and I'm in shock at how small it all is. A little neck will fit it that bib?? Eeekkk! Wake up call!
