October 2014 Moms

nicknames?

what are you going to call baby until you have a name?  we called DD "doodle" and did not tell anyone her name until she was born.  i've thought of a few cute nicknames but promptly forgot them now that i'm pregnant.

Re: nicknames?

  • I want one for my bun in the oven but haven't thought of one yet. I know that when my mom was pregnant with me she called me Rufus. :P

  • My dog's name is Rufus. Current code name for the bun in the oven is candy corn!
  • We have just been saying the baby or baby #2. We didn't have a nickname with my daughter, either. We called her the baby and then by her name once we picked one.

  • Considering Pumpkin since EDD is 10/9. We may end up calling it Mapache or Mapachito (raccoon or little raccoon in Spanish). I like Chickadee too. Stow-away maybe?

  • So far it's just been 'the baby', I'm sure we'll come up with something more fun once we're a little further along.
  • DH and I call each other Honey Bunny or Bunnies (I know, it's corny), so we called DS baby bunny when I was pregnant. We have been calling this one baby bunny 2. He also sings this allllll the time.

DH and i tried to remember, or come up with, our nicknames.  it was an amusing conversation and some of the one's tickled us to no end but were completely silly.  we finally did remember one that had been thrown out there before and i'm pretty sure it's going to stick: Minion.  DH and i watched despicable me 2 last month and DD was a minion for halloween.  so looking forward to meeting 'our little minion' around oct. 2nd.

keep posting!  i love hearing what others are calling baby.  a friend of mine calls hers 'edamame'

  • My mom has started calling by little one after What the bump says the size is. Right now she says "how's my little poppy seed?" and then I started calling my baby that to my husband and he's picked up on it too. Looks like the nickname will be What the bump says the size is at that time. :)

  • With DD, we just called her "Baby Girl" the whole time.  This one doesn't have a name yet, but will probably be Baby Girl or Baby Boy once we find out.  We're totally creative.

With DS1 we called him "turtle" because I craved pizza all.the.time so we joked I was growing a Ninga Turtle.  DS2 was just "the baby".

#3 We haven't really called it anything yet, I guess we just refer to it as "this one".  My poor neglected baby.. Lol

  • We have no nickname, and rarely even say the word "baby." The reason is that my last pregnancy, we called the baby "Panda" until I miscarried. That pretty much ruined forever the name Panda. Every time we see a panda or someone mentions panda, we get upset. So I don't think we want to risk spoiling another name in case this pregnancy doesn't work out. Sorry to be a downer, but that's our story!

  • My friend asked me the other day how the 'seamonkey' was doing. I know it is Terrible but it made me laugh at the time! Once I'm further along and it doesn't resemble said awful nickname, I'm sure DH and I will come up with something cuter haha.
  • When my best friend told me she was pregnant in October, she listed the sizes her app says the baby will be each month. One was heirloom tomato, so now I always ask her how her heirloom tomato (or HT) is doing.

  • I've been calling it bean (sticky bean), but will switch to pumpkin once she's bigger and to honour her EDD which is just before (Cdn) Thanksgiving! ❤
  • Our last pregnancy was "the pea". This one is "the jelly bean" or, because we're both trying to relearn Spanish before the baby is born, "haba de jalea".
    image
  • DH thinks baby resembles a dinosaur at 6 weeks (I know it is terrible) but keeps asking when baby will look like a dinosaur.

  • DH has started calling it "bub" or "our little bub" like that funny little celebrity cat
(who he claims to have never heard of before) which at first confused me but now I'm into it.

  • Ours isn't anything right now. The word most associated with this pregnancy so far is 'if.' We're both still kind of bet hedging, so if (again) we get a little further along I'm sure we'll think of something.

  • Hubby has been calling it "skittle" haha :)
  • We say "puntin" as a play on the word pumpkin. DH and I tend to call brand new babies by that name, I have no idea why lol But it fits since we are due in October!
  • I don't know yet. My son was little mushroom and my dog's name is Bean, so those are out. Many little squish since that is what I call tiny newborns when I see them :)

  • I started with "the appleseed", as that's how big it currently is, but then I started referring to it as "the nugget" out of nowhere. The Hubs MUCH prefers this, so we've switched over. It is a little silly because we've only known for a week, but we're excited about our little nugget. :)
  • We're calling our little one Appleseed because that is how big they were when we found out we were pregnant.
