A silver lining to our setback, and a longer NICU stay, is that they are going to give Andrew a go at no oxygen - and hopefully he can do it! Here he is last night - after about 6 hours off the cannula. I called this morning, and he's still going strong, so maybe he can keep the tape off his face for good (notice the red irritation - poor boy!)

In other good news, he's finished his 7 day round of antibiotics and is doing much better. They started feeding him a *little* bit yesterday, and will slowly increase the amount as long as he is tolerating it. We figure we may get out of here just before Thanksgiving if things progress well (they will want to observe him for awhile after he's back to full feeds to make sure no infection reoccurs).
He's a fighter. I'm so proud at how far he's come!

njdcgirl - ask them if they have cavilon skin prep. It will help the redness heal faster - and if they have to use any more adhesive on his face, it should be applied under it, before they stick things to him.
He looks AWESOME.

Thanks GEN...I'll ask. I think they have used that before. I know he'll heal up quick, but OUCH!
Time will tell if he can stay off the oxygen for good, but for now, I'm just going to enjoy his tube/cannula/tape free face!
That all sounds fantastic! What an amazing holiday you will have with your little man!
I am really glad he is doing so well. Thanks for the update.

Look at that sweet face!!
Wonderful news on all fronts!
YAY Andrew!
While I know you want out out out, how awesome if he can come home off O2! I tell you these kids somehow know. Just when we are at our witts ends, they throw us a bone and do something amazing.
Hope the feedings go smoothly and quickly and you are home for turkey day. What a wonderful Thanksgiving indeed!
What a beautiful little miracle you have.:)
Hope his progress continues so you can get him home!
