June 2014 Moms

J14 Potluck!

DH just went out to pick up bagels and I thought to myself, I feel bad for anyone who doesn't get to eat bagels from the NY/NJ area. They are seriously the best bagels in the world.

If we were having a June 14 potluck I would bring bagels and cream cheese for the group.

What regional specialty type food would you bring??

  • I could go for some bagels right now :) since I'm from Chicago I'm thinking I would have to bring deep dish pizza and lately I've been having a lot of Chicago style hotdogs.
  • I'd bring Johnson's popcorn (caramel corn) and Mac & Manco's pizza (well, actually, now it's caled Manco & Manco's, but it'll forever be Mac & Manco's to me).

Mac and Mancos is my favorite!!! Love it. Every weekend down the shore, inevitably it's one of our meals. Good choice!

Well, I don't drink beer, but everyone raves over Victory which is from where I grew up so I would bring that and maybe something Hershey's related :)

ETA: I forgot! I'd also bring Primo hoagies....so delicious and fresh!

  • I was in NY about two years ago visiting a friend. We would get coffee and bagels every morning. DELICIOUS!!

I am from small town south of St. Louis and I would bring porkburgers. If you haven't had one, definitely try them.

  • I'm in FL so its a hard choice. Everyone that comes here wants to try Alligator. Yum.. I could definitely go for some fried gator....

And I miss NJ bagels soo much. Always ate them as a kid when I lived in NJ and when I went back to visit at 13 for a summer I tore up some bagels cause I knew it'd be forever since I'd have them again. I need to go visit family just to get some bagels. NY chinese food, and pizza is the best ever too. Oh! & Jersey Mike's subs!! Okay, I think I'm missing Jersey a bit...
  • @mommy23munchkins I love fried gator! I would probably bring some beer from Great Lakes Brewery - Conway's Irish Ale. My favorite!
  • I'm from Houston...it's a toss up. What about some fresh homemade chicken tamales? Yum!

Things to-do before June: crepes in Vegas, bagels from NY and deep dish pizza from chi!!! Omg

  • @LilNunz1 I LOVE Fried gator too, and softshell turtle. Sounds horrible, but I was tricked into eating it a looooong time ago and its the next best thing to gator. :)

I'm a Pittsburgh gal, so I'll bring homemade pierogies and some chipped ham BBQ.  Oh and Primanti's sandwiches for everyone!

Yey, pierogies and Primanti's!!! DH has lots of friends in Pittsburgh and I always enjoy the food when visiting.  Can I request some grilled stickies from Eat n Park?? We don't have that restaurant around here.

I've spent the vast majority of my life in South and Central TX and I would definitely bring breakfast tacos (with loads of salsa) and brisket. OMG, delicious.

I would especially crave breakfast tacos if I ever moved away.

When I travel I always have to bring salsa for my eggs. No one does salsa like Texas!!

  • I second the need for NY/NJ bagels all across the country.  I'm from New England; moved to Texas 12 years ago. I have no regional pride for anything here.

I still find it odd that there are no homemade ice cream shops around here.  There were easily 10 in my hometown.  How about I swing by Four Seas Ice Cream on my way to the potluck and bring a few pints?

  • I'm originally from upstate NY, and would bring steak in Spiedie sauce for the potluck, yum! I now live an hour outside Boston, and would bring either cannolis from Mike's Pastries or lobster rolls.

  • Pavlova!

    It's common in NZ/Aus over
Christmas or on special occasions. It's a perfect summer time dessert as it's so light. I think it's pretty much the best desert in the the world :)

You whip egg whites and sugar until stiff, fold in a little vinegar and cornflour and then bake it long and low. The result is a cake that's crunchy merange on the outside and soft melt-in-your-mouth amazingness on the inside. Top it with whipped cream and fresh berries!

Pavlova is my FAVORITE THING EVER. I make it alllll the time in summer

@Mommy23Munchkins I could certainly throw some Taylor Ham into the mix. Never pork roll. That's south Jersey :)

My family is all over Jersey so I've learned to just say both cause they look at me like I'm crazy haha. :) Taylor Ham is the BEST food ever. <3 Oh what I would do for a Taylor Ham sandwich. They sell it here in FL at BJs in Clermont which is 50 miles from me it's worth it to me but DH doesnt know what Taylor Ham is so he thinks I'm a little crazy t want to drive 50 miles for Taylor Ham and a membership. Theres so much I could buy there though. Lol. But I'd definitely by two or three Taylor Hams. Haha :)
