DH just went out to pick up bagels and I thought to myself, I feel bad for anyone who doesn't get to eat bagels from the NY/NJ area. They are seriously the best bagels in the world.
If we were having a June 14 potluck I would bring bagels and cream cheese for the group.
What regional specialty type food would you bring??
There is a bagel company here in south florida that re-creates the water from Brooklyn to make the bagels taste like a NY/NJ bagel! So good! It's called Brooklyn Water Bagel Company. I don't know how they do it, but they do.
I think coneys are a Detroit thing, I'm from West Michigan. West and East Michigan are like two completely different places all together - and then you're got Northern Michigan and the U.P. (Upper Peninsula), which is like another country in itself (and would be more similar to Canada than Detroit area).
Anyone here from the U.P.? What you would you bring?
Since my other Cali peeps seem to have In N Out and Mexican food covered, I would bring some San Francisco clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. Bit of a drive for me, but totally worth it!
BFP 12/30/12...MC 1/13...TTC again 6/11/13... BFP #2 9/28/13....EDD 6/7/14
Darn my fellow Texans for talking about breakfast tacos! Looks like I will be waking up early so I can grab some breakfast tacos with salsa! Or have DH bring me Brothers Tacos when he leaves the station! Mmm!
@wareagle1220, I mentioned the loose meat sandwiches (Maid-Rite). I won't be bringing Taco Johns though. I'm still a Taco Bell fan over Taco Johns. Good idea on the Brunswick Stew and Fried Green Tomatoes...yummy! I love southern food!
I am from the Central Coast of California and there are two meals very specific to our region that I would bring. First, Santa Maria Style BBQ tri-tip with pinto beans, garlic bread, and fresh pico de gallo.
Second, Splash Cafe Clam Chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. Splash Cafe started as small beachfront cafe in Pismo Beach, CA and has the BEST clam chowder I have ever had in my life. And when I travel, I always try other regions chowders and they are just never up to snuff. It's life changing.

Ohmygosh, my family lives in SLO and I have been craving Firestone and Santa Maria tri tip SO BAD
A Pennsylvania Classic! I'm from the north central area and the closest town is 6 miles away and closest neighbor 1 mile away. I'm stationed in CA but am sticking to my roots! I always bring buffalo chicken dip (made with real chicken-not canned!) with tortilla chips, carrots and celery. There's never any leftovers, sadly so I have to stash some away before I leave the house. It's probably not the best food choice for pregnant ladies because it will give you wicked heartburn. But sooo worth the pain! Hahaha.
I'm right outside Philly, so I guess I am supposed to say cheesesteaks? Even though I don't really care for them too much myself.
I grew up in upstate NY, just south of VT and Montreal, Canada, and up there we have Michigans, which some people might call chili dogs but they are NOT the same. I would bring some real Michigan sauce, hotdogs, and lots of diced onions and mustard to make it authentic.
I'm in East Texas- I'll bring a few jugs of sweet tea and some Dr. Pepper... I'm an implant here so I don't really do BBQ or anything real authentic!!!
I would bring what we call finger rolls. They are tiny sub rolls made specially to be filled with egg salad, ham salad, tuna salad, chicken salad, seafood salad, and Italian sandwiches. Out of all the places I have lived, I can only find these delicious sandwiches back home. (Maine.)

------------------------------------------
I need their secret! Jersey Mike's Subs here in FL is ran by Jersey Mike's brother and Mike ships water here from NJ every week. Thousands and thousands of gallons just so the subs here taste exactly the same as they do in NJ.
On a side note, I need to go to South Florida and find this company you speak of. Tell me more? Dang central FL why don't we have this place!!!
I wish someone from the south that shops at Publix could send me a loaf of their Breakfast Bread. I have it when we visit DH's grandparents in FL, and I've been craving it like crazy. I found a few knock-off recipes that I might need to try.

I've never even tried it! I love Publix.
It's a bread with dried fruit and nuts. It's really good toasted. When we left last time I brought home 6 loaves with me to keep in my freezer. DH thinks I'm crazy because he didn't like it, which is perfect because then it was all mine, but it eventually ran out...

I live in FL and have two Publix's within 10 miles of me but have never had their breakfast bread..

SO agree with you about East Coast bagels! I as born in NJ bt almost always lived in CA. In CA I found someone from the east who made them the "right" way. Now I live in the land of the grossest bagels ever. Might as well by a Lender's bagel from Walmart.

Awww @Mrs Case a Lenders bagel from Walmart makes me sad for you
I'm originally from El Paso and I miss the Mexican food every day!!! Houston's not bad, but not the same. I'd bring tamales, menudo, Chico's Tacos and my grandma's recipe for green enchilada casserole
