My homies with an anterior placenta...

I'm 99% sure this just worked. Twice.

I haven't felt anything yet (19 weeks 2 days) and was told I have an anterior placenta at my 16w gender scan.

I remember reading a few weeks ago that my baby could see light. "Cool" I thought. I shined a light at myself, nothing happened, I forgot about it. Tonight I decided to try again, and I'm almost positive I felt her moving around in there! I did it before on the couch, and just now in bed. I used the obnoxious light on my iPhone and moved it around. I'm sure I made her angry. (Sorry kiddo, I'll be annoying you for the rest of my life)

I think knowing when to feel for movement might have helped, and maybe the kind of squirming she did to get away from the light is easier to feel than the random kicks/jabs. (who knows)

Anyway, thought I'd share in case you wanted to give it a try!

I'm 22 weeks Saturday and on Christmas Eve I felt my first kick! It took forever to feel him bc of the anterior placenta but I finally did! I took my dogs for a walk so my heart rate was pretty high then I laid down on my back and boom a little kick! It was amazing! I'll try the light tonight! Thanks for sharing your tip!

  • Thanks for the tip- and I'm glad you got to feel her!

I found out at my a/s I've got an anterior placenta too :(  However, I'm pretty sure I got some good squirming this evening after some lemon sorbet!

  • This anterior placenta business is for the birds! I'm over 21 weeks now and still not feeling much. I feel him much more when he kicks my bladder than anything else. By this point with DD my husband could feel good, solid kicks!

  • Seriously for the birds. It only adds to my craziness.

  • I'll have to try that as well. Thanks.

  • I'm going to try this too! I also just drank some orange juice so maybe that'll help. I've been told I had a uterus that tilted forward so figured I would feel movement earlier, but nope!
  • I don't know how helpful this is. But for the first few days when I could feel our daughter, she was kicking/tumbling super low/goldfish in a bag feeling. I could feel her better if I reclined in our recliner. Now she's getting stronger and I can feel her kick my bladder (almost peed myself at work today, she had a really good shot!) when I'm sitting and standing.

  • I have an anterior placenta but started feeling him move at the same time I felt DS1 which was at 17 weeks and a few days. I had a posterior placenta with DS1.

  • Totally going to try that!!

I think I felt my first kick at the ultrasound this morning. I felt something and at the same time the baby launched back as if he had pushed himself off with his foot. It really helped to see the visual of the baby moving in order to connect that feeling with baby movements. Now I think I've felt it a few times today.

  • Pretty sure their eyelids are fused shut still. I think its like 26w that they open. I guess they could in theory see light thru the thin lids...but I dont know that they would be able to ccoordinate movement to get to the source yet.

  • The most intense movement I've had so far was a few nights ago, he must have done a full flip a couple times, kinda felt like a turning ball in me. Outside of that a few tiny kicks here and there. It's so weird this anterior placenta business, I honestly thought id feel more by now.

At least us ladies can get a bit more restful sleep before the karate classes begin. :)

  • I will have to give that a try- I have felt a few twinges I was on the fence about in the last week but nothing I can confidently say is her. And she seems to like to camp out under there- I am hoping soon as it's the big 2-0 weeks on Tuesday but also not worried as we hear her on the doppler every night.

  • I have an anterior placenta but, I can still feel LO moving on a regular basis. Although it did take longer to feel him for the first time as compared to DD. He usually goes crazy kicking and punching when I drink apple juice! That might work as well.

  • Wow cool! I'm definitely going to try this. I just started to feel a few movements here and there but nothing consistent yet. :)
  • Cool!! Thanks for sharing! I'm on it lol! :)
  • I had an anterior placenta with my first and again with this one. I am bummed that I have it again. I didnt feel this baby till just a couple weeks ago, it freaked me out because I felt my son around 17 weeks. I can feel her every day now, so that's nice.

  • I'll have to give that one a try. This week I've been feeling this "rolling" movement in my abdomen that I can't tell if it's gas or baby. It'd be nice to confirm :)

  • Be careful with the light. You don't want to overstimulate baby. Here is a really good article about how baby is developing... It warns not to use the light.

  • I'm officially now one of your homies. Found out today that I have an anterior placenta too. Makes sense because my uterus is tilted forward so I should have felt baby sooner than most people. But I did try the light the other day and it didn't work :(
  • Didn't work for me :( I'm 20w4d
