To add on. What good does judging actaully do? Does it justify your parenting choices? No. Does it boost your self esteem because you'er better than some else? It shouldn't. It actually does WAY more harm to the person making judgements than to the person getting judged. It's toxic.
My UO: The only thing stopping me from having more than 3 kids (and 3 isn't even a "done deal") someday is because I want to help with their college tuition as much as we can humanly afford to. If it weren't for that fact alone I think I would have 4...possibly more.
I judge people who walk around carrying their 4, 5, 6 year old. The ones saying "You're a big boy/girl, can't you walk for Mommy?!?" Are you serious?
My 3 year old runs away. Into traffic, into the street, into and out of crowds.
That's why I specified the moms that are practically begging their kid to walk. Doing it for safety is different than doing it because your giant, capable kid doesn't want to walk.
I'll go off of this. My eyes fall out of my head when I see parents pushing a 6+ yr old in a stroller. Umm... if his legs are dragging, he's too big!!!
And again, you don't know if he's actually capable of walking alone safely. Maybe he has SPD, maybe he has an invisible disability.
Jaysus with the judging.
I've gotten some interesting looks when my SPD kid decides she can't walk for whatever reason. Granted she's only two,but that's one of the biggest things OT is working on with her.
That's my whole point. I know she's a SAHM out of necessity. I can't stand the mentality of sterilization for the poor and yet I'm so aggravated because I really feel that they're being irresponsible. And I'm angry with myself for caring so much.
**ETA and I find it very frustrating that they're using programs that are essentially placed for people who really NEED them. Yes, they NEED it now, but only because they CHOSE to try for another child.
I have never been "judged" to my face by another parent. I imagine that it doesn't happen all that frequently. Do people have that many balls? I mean seriously. Are we just more comfortable sharing our judgement here because we don't really "know" each other, or know people IRL that do these things? IDK. Most of the time when I see people making parenting decisions I find odd I just add it to the list of things I hope to not do later on.
Even though I think it's ridiculous to see FB pictures of friends that let their 3 year old wander around with a bottle, or my 6 year old niece comes over wearing make up and little kid high heels almost every time I see her, I still wouldn't say anything about it because it's not hurting them, but I still comment on it to DH. Especially about my niece. FFS. She's 6. She doesn't need to be wearing eye shadow, eye liner and lipstick. SHE'S 6. For my baby shower last year, SIL let her put pink highlights in her hair. Like took her to the salon and had them put in. I just find it so totally asinine. I know it shouldn't bother me, but it really does.

I judge. A lot. I just don't act on my judgments. And I appreciate that there might be circumstances I don't know about. I just see something, and think "yeah, that's definitely not how I would do it."
If you say you don't judge something, you're pretty much judging the people who were doing the judging. Hence, you're judging someone, always. There's no such thing as being completely unbiased or non-judgmental . It's innate. We all do it.
Well, ok. Sure, I judge too.
But I keep my big mouth shut because I don't know what the deal is. There is no point in making someone feel bad about something. Plus, as I said, I really don't care. I see that mother carry her 6 year old and think 'wow, that kid should walk' and then I walk by and it doesn't cross my mind again. Her back, her kid, her problem.
I always judge silently. I think there's a difference between thinking something in my head (or posting it on her) or telling another mom she's doing it wrong.
I don't really care about the Barilla pasta hates the gays business. Their pasta was the cheapest a the grocery store last week, on ubersale, and I loaded up for the food pantry. I realized I didn't care as I was filling my cart.
Yep, I eat Barilla and CFA and love both. I'm not engaging in boycotts just bc they were mean to someone. I'm all for gay rights, but I just can't be bothered with big political statements that affect my food.
You just opened an old wound with this gif. I am still mourning the end of Happy Endings. Also, I basically AM Jane.
So sorry I caused you pain hon. That show was thebomb.com
Do you watch The Mindy Project? Max is now on it! I'm praying it's a reccurring role because his character is very similar to the one he played on Happy Endings!
Oh I have one that's unpopular here. I actually like Jenny McCarthy. She's dating my dream husband too. And I watch The View now that she's joined.
Boom! UO and FFFC in one.
Do you watch Blue Bloods??? I know it's cheesy, but it's my favorite show on TV right now.
I try not to judge. When I do, I keep my mouth shut, other than maybe mentioning something to DH.

I haven't watched it but I want to. Too many TV shows!!
I know I'm being judged while taking all of my kids anywhere. 2 walking next to me while I push Reid in the stroller with my big pregnant belly. And I don't give a fuck. Judge away.
We all judge and we all get judged. The difference is how we react to it. And I just don't care.
My UO:
People need to learn to mind their own business. Especially when it comes to decisions parents make for their kids.
It shouldn't matter to you if my kid wears soft pants, eats pouches and forward faces at 18 months.
We can add recent examples from the board, if you wish:
My kid wears a winter jacket in his carseat? Mind your own business.
My kid has a soother at age 3? Mind your own business.
I lug my 6 year old around while pleading with him to walk? Mind your own business.
My 5 year old sits in a stroller?
Mind your own business.
Judging parents without knowing the full story is wrong. We have no idea why things happen.
And seriously, who gives a fuck what others do with their kids? (As long as they don't deliberately cause them harm, of course).
WTF are soft pants? And why are people judging them. Kids play and get dirty, shouldn't they be comfy?

I have a girlfriend who has 5 little girls. You should hear the "assumptions" people say to her: "You must home school!" Nope. "You must be catholic!" They are atheist. "Do you like being a SAHM?" Nope, she works....it's hilarious. Side note - they are moving to Brooklyn, NY which just blows my mind!! She's so brave!
@mrsjenni-- I'd be staring, but it wouldn't be in a judgy way... it'd be in a borderline creepy longing way. I would LOVE to have a bushel of kids, especially close in age!
@mnkate-- we really do have parallel lives because I think Oreos are nasty, too. If I had to, I'd eat the cream, but that's where I draw the line. The only difference between us is your husband has business meetings in London, and mine meets at Bob Evans.. whomp whomp
I think "I'm thankful for..." FB posts are as annoying as people who are always AWing their spouses. Just tell it to the person directly. Ditto people who go onto social media and brag about RAOK they're doing for others. If it's random, keep it quiet, yo. It just all comes across as so AWish.
I for one am a major fan of the Oreo and double stuf or go home!
I can be judgy and I know that. I try not to be but sometimes it happens and I would never "tell" someone my thoughts I usually discuss them with DH. Especially when it comes to parenting. I just make a mental note of what I wouldn't do and file it for later.
My UO: I hate wine and beer. (I'm being banished from this group after that statement.) I can't stand the taste of either of them. I'm allergic to red wine and while white tends to be sweeter I just can't do it. As for beer, I love the smell but can't stand the taste. I'd rather have a diet coke!
I think Oreos should just be garnish for ice cream or cheese cake. My sister makes an oreo cheesecake that is to die for. It's just fantastic. And cookies and cream ice cream is my favorite. But just a plain bunch of Oreos? Nah. I'll pass.

I no longer like you That being said share that damn oreo cheesecake recipe!
My UO: I think it's strange that a lot of people (on here and IRL) seem to think if their MIL does something that they don't agree with, that it is their husband's duty to take care of it. "Your MIL offended you/can't keep her boundaries/etc.? Your husband better talk to her/fix it." Why can't you take care of it? "It's HIS family." No, I'm sorry. You married him, his mother became your family, too.
But, I know this is an UO around here at least, because I also have the UO that it's silly when a woman does not want her MIL in the delivery room, but wants her mother because 'it's her grandchild' or someshit.

I just emailed my sister for it. :-) I'll get it to you when she responds.

I think it is about the relationship you have with your IL's. We have a good relationship where I could do this and have the information be well received. I just don't think all relationships are like that. There have been a few times (mainly earlier in our relationship) where DH has stepped in. But for the most part we just have a very good relationship. Not all have that.
I wanted my mom in the delivery room with each baby b/c she's very calm, helpful and supportive. I love my MIL, but she would drive me bonkers if she were in there. It has nothing to do with the baby and everything to do with ME.
Re: **UO**
Edited for grammar: DON'T JUDGE ME!!

Haha, honestly I've not been on TB via a computer in so long I'm not even sure what GIF is in my siggy. I should probably look into that.
