I think all the breast cancer awareness products are just a scam. Donate your $25 straight to the cause instead of buying that $25 lipstick where 10 cents goes to the cause. It annoys me to see that stuff everywhere... These companies don't want to help the cause, they are just trying to sell their crap.

Yes! It's sick how companies use breast cancer as a marketing ploy and claim it's "awareness." Sure some does bring awareness, but that's not why they're doing it.

That's why I specified the moms that are practically begging their kid to walk. Doing it for safety is different than doing it because your giant, capable kid doesn't want to walk.

That's why I specified the moms that are practically begging their kid to walk. Doing it for safety is different than doing it because your giant, capable kid doesn't want to walk.

I'll go off of this. My eyes fall out of my head when I see parents pushing a 6+ yr old in a stroller. Umm... if his legs are dragging, he's too big!!!

Furthermore, you don't know by observing me if it's for safety or because my kid doesn't want to. Or because she freaks out in crowds.

If you were begging her to walk, it would likely mean that you aren't doing it for those reasons.

Jocelyn is 5 and I have carried her and she rides in a stroller sometimes. Sometimes because she says her legs hurt, sometimes it is faster or we are going a long distance and sometimes it is easier to keep track of both girls in a crowd. Guess this is FFTC

People need to learn to mind their own business. Especially when it comes to decisions parents make for their kids.
It shouldn't matter to you if my kid wears soft pants, eats pouches and forward faces at 18 months.
We can add recent examples from the board, if you wish:
My kid wears a winter jacket in his carseat? Mind your own business.
My kid has a soother at age 3? Mind your own business.
I lug my 6 year old around while pleading with him to walk? Mind your own business.
My 5 year old sits in a stroller?
Mind your own business.

Judging parents without knowing the full story is wrong. We have no idea why things happen.
And seriously, who gives a fuck what others do with their kids? (As long as they don't deliberately cause them harm, of course).

People judge other people, it's human nature. If you feel the need to correct other people or let it affect the way you treat them, it's obviously a problem. Thinking something in your head, it's normal.

DH and I are both certified, and although mine is officially out of date, I know I could still perform the life saving duties if necessary.

 

New recs are for no mouth breathing, right? Just compressions.

And if you aren't breaking ribs, you aren't compressing hard enough. That's what my medic friends tell me anyway.

It's still mouth breathing plus compressions here, but you don't HAVE to do the mouth breathing if you don't feel comfortable. They provided us with a plastic mouth shield though to encourage the mouth breathing portion since it's more beneficial that way.

I am so so so glad I am certified. I learned things in that class I had no idea about. Best course I've ever taken.

I got judged for ice tea in Alastair's sippy yesterday.
It was his second birthday and it was a special treat. When we asked what he wanted he said 'nall n i ta' - mall and ice tea. So we went to the mall and he got to eat Chinese food and got ice tea in his sippy cup.
And some old hag came over to lecture me about it and then was surprised when I told her 'mind your own business and go away, we are enjoying my son's birthday treats' - she was offended by me telling her that. Well.

I mean, she didn't know that he got that for his birthday (and even more for saying it, because, well, he in pretty non verbal and we are in speech therapy for it).
In fact, he has had sips from our ice teas before, but never his own in a sippy.
So, yeah - you never know the whole story, and without it you may look like a nosy asshole.

Saying "I don't judge" is a load of crapola.

If you say you don't judge something, you're pretty much judging the people who were doing the judging. Hence, you're judging someone, always. There's no such thing as being completely unbiased or non-judgmental . It's innate. We all do it.

Obviously not. If you tell me your husband beats you, then he is causing your harm. Plus, if you are telling me this, it probably is asking for help. Either way, I'd call the cops.

Well, ok. Sure, I judge too.

But I keep my big mouth shut because I don't know what the deal is. There is no point in making someone feel bad about something. Plus, as I said, I really don't care. I see that mother carry her 6 year old and think 'wow, that kid should walk' and then I walk by and it doesn't cross my mind again. Her back, her kid, her problem.

Here's mine. I judge both the situation and myself for reacting the way I have about news. Politically, I tend to lean to the left and feel there are a lot of programs out there that do a lot of good for people who need them. 

A distant family member of mine just announced her fourth pregnancy. She is a SAHM, and her husband works a low end job making less than I do. She threw up on fb a while ago asking what doctors in town accepted our state's assistance program for prenatal care. And just days ago they announced their pregnancy "Going for a girl!"... 

I am so disturbed by it. I'll be honest that it likely comes from a place of jealousy. I want to be a SAHM but we can't afford it. I barely make enough to make working worthwhile, but I'm still doing it. We'd love to have four kids, but we know we can't afford that many. For the first time in my life I could feel myself internally saying "Glad I can pay for your prenatal care and L&D". 

I guess that's more of a FFC. But I had to let it out. I can't believe I'm that upset over it, but I am.

Actually the non breathing CPR, which is actually called CCR is only proven to be more effective when it is a true heart emergency, i.e. - MI, heart attack, etc.  In other situations true CPR is more effective.  I think most paramedics have gone to just using CCR because they are usually putting on a rebreather and therefore, their breaths aren't necessary.

(Sorry, I have had to listen to my paramedic DH talk about this for the last two years or so!)

BME, good job on getting trained!  I agree that infant/ child CPR should be required for just about everyone!

True. There's a huge difference between a passing thought, ie, "holy crap she's letting her kid eat Goldfish for every meal." and then being like whateva, not my kid, or seeing that and being like "MY CHILD ONLY EATS REAL FISH YOU TERRIBLE MOTHER." There's really no point to the latter except to make someone feel bad in order to make yourself feel better.

I would do it to avoid a tantrum or if it's just faster.  DS1 will be 4 in January and I still carry him around from time to time.  He also will ask sometimes, in this really really cute voice "Mommy, will you carry me?"  It's hard to say no.   

Then again, if I am not trying to avoid a major fit or he's just being whiney, I'll tell him to suck it up and walk.  Just one of those depends on the situation things.

I judge.  A lot.  I just don't act on my judgments.  And I appreciate that there might be circumstances I don't know about.  I just see something, and think "yeah, that's definitely not how I would do it."

I don't really care about the Barilla pasta hates the gays business.  Their pasta was the cheapest a the grocery store last week, on ubersale, and I loaded up for the food pantry.  I realized I didn't care as I was filling my cart.

I don't know how any of us could say we don't judge?  I totally judge.  But I keep my mouth shut.  If it's a friend and/or I'm worried about safety, I'll try to make recommendations.  Otherwise - walking up to a stranger about their parenting?  Not okay.
