Baby Clothes....WWYD?

So I really want to detag and wash all of our LOs newborn and 03month clothes but DH doesn't want me to. He says well we don't know hpw big he will be and what if he doesn't fit into the newborn size? I do see his point but I also don't want to have to wash them all after he's here, I would rather have it done now. So WWYD? Did you wash everything already or are you waiting?

Re: Baby Clothes....WWYD?

  • I'm washing all NB and 0-3.  Odds are something will not be worn, such is life.

  • Why not wash like a week's worth of clothes, and if lo isn't huge and needs newborn sized clothes, HE can wash the rest once lo is here since he was the one with the issue to begin with? We just washed all the 03 and the newborn stuff my sister gave is, which is A LOT!

  • I washed everything. Less to do after LO arrives.

  • We got so many newborn clothes at my shower that we're actually returning some for bigger sizes. But I will be washing all the ones we keep before the baby comes. I think you should have at least some washed before baby is born. You can always donate them or give them to a friend if s/he can't use them.

  • Thanks ladies! Maybe I can change his mind. ; I was planning to wash some and then make him wash the rest once LO is here but I'm a control freak and this has been stressing me out letting them sit there unwashed.
  • most of the clothes I have are hand me downs, and I'm washing the blankets, sleepers and the 0-3 first. I have a range of sizes from 6-24 that I probably won't get a chance to wash yet, but I'm starting off with up to 3 months.

  • I didn't wash and was able to return what I didn't and couldn't use. This way I could get what I needed. And you don't know the size of your LO

  • I also washed everything. I don't know about you, but I plan on having more children after her. I plan on keeping it all, even if she out grows it. Eventually, it will fit another a child! If I don't have any other girls, I'm confident someone I know or don't know ;) will so I will just donate it/hand me down!

I washed all 03 months and NB sizes. Most of the NB stuff was hand me downs but they had a dog so I wante to rewash them just to eat any extra dog hair off.

Why not wash whatever 0 3 you have. Some brands of clothes run small so even if the baby is tiny you could use the smaller outfits

  • I wash them all.  I had a hard time figuring out where the heck things came from for return purposes anyway (from shower purchases).

  • As long as you don't have a TON of NB stuff it's very likely it'll get worn. Wash away.

  • I'm actually returning all the newborn outfits I received. My older boys were both 8.5 lbs so they went straight into 0-3 months, and I'm pretty sure this one will be over 8lbs as well. I have a few hand me down outfits that are newborn that I'll wash but that's it.

I don't see why doing one load of laundry after the baby is born would be so awful.  I'd wash the 0-3 month stuff but hold off on newborn.

  • DS was 8 lbs 6 oz, back to his birthweight day after discharge and still wore newborn clothes. I'd wash some of them at least and all the 0-3.

I'd probably pick one or two of the newborn outfits to wash but hold off on the others. I would go ahead and wash the 0-3M outfits, though.

I washed all of our LO's clothes yesterday. I did go ahead and throw his newborn sized outfit in with the rest of the clothes, just in case. We only have one newborn outfit (received at shower), and we haven't purchased any others. If we find that he'll need them, I'll have my mom run out and get some when he's born. Most of our things are 0-3M, 3-6, or 6-12M.

  • I washed everything. Of course, MH didn't really have a strong opinion on the matter, and I'd like to be prepared. If she doesn't wear it all, oh well. I will either save it for another kid, or have a garage sale! :) I'm not overly worried about LO not having enough clothes, in any size. ;)

This is my plan.  It takes 2 hours to wash and dry a load, there's no rush.

  • I have had all of her stuff washed, but very few of it was actually brand new from the store. If you have a Once Upon a Child near you they will by the clothes, and then you can use the money to get bigger sizes.

I don't see the big deal in doing a load of laundry after baby arrives. Wash a couple outfits in each size. I'm sure your entire stash will all fit in one big load.
  • I did it. DS was over 9 lbs and still fit NB clothing.

  • I went ahead and washed all of DD's clothing. Like PP's have said, it's not a big deal to wash a load of laundry, but that's not the challenging part- baby clothes have some serious packaging! There are a million little plastic thingies holding all the pieces of the outfits to the hangers, to the other pieces, etc. And if it's a pack of onesies there are a million pieces of tape holding them together and then to the cardboard insert. I'm glad I'm having another little girl who can wear hand-me-downs so I don't have to do that again. If you can get your DH to take everything apart to wash it, then wait, otherwise do it now. I wouldn't hesitate to wash all 0-3 month clothes though.

Ultimately, I'm not up for the challenge of figuring out what came from which store to return unwanted stuff, and then getting the store to actually take the items back. I had a few things from walmart, and they wouldn't let me exchange them for a larger size. The employees I spoke with just could not comprehend that garanimals products are exclusive to walmart, so they did in fact come from their store. They kept trying to send me to burlington coat factory or kmart to try and return them.

  • My baby is measuring on the bigger side and considering NB only goes to like 7.5lb I only washed 2 things in NB size which I will bring to the hospital just in case. I figure if he doesn't fit into 0-3 (I washed all of those) then the hospital has onsies and I can send someone to wash more (I was given a few things in NB size) and maybe pick up a few things while we're in the hospital. I am trying to stick with just the basics I know I will need and buy more as we go, but I tend to not over prepare anyways.

  • This is my third baby, I washed everything. I know that I won't have the time energy or help after the little guy gets here. He needs to realize that they may need to have their clothes changed a few times a day too. So unless he's up for a lot of laundry I say wash them! Lol good luck!!
  • I'll have help after baby is born so I will just be washing the coming home outfits and there are a few onsies that hubby accidentally ripped tags off of so I'll wash those too. Other than that I'm keeping the tags on just in case. Baby clothes can be expensive!
