I just fell down a flight of stairs

Somehow I slipped at the top of the stairs and fell down the entire flight.  Luckily the stairs are all carpeted and I was bouncing down on my butt and back the whole way.  I can't believe I couldn't stop myself.  I am sore and will certainly be bruised, but otherwise fine.  I am very worried about any possible trauma to the baby and naturally it's Sunday evening so no one is at the doctor's office.  I haven't felt the baby move yet, though that isn't necessarily abnormal.  No bleeding.  Just wondering how concerned you all think I should be.  Would you march yourself to the ER or wait until your regularly scheduled appointment tomorrow afternoon?

  • I'm overly cautious, but I would go in just for peace of mind. You'll feel better when you see baby moving around normally and hear a strong hb. Hope you're not too banged up tomorrow!

  • I tend to be on the super optimistic side, but if you didn't hit your belly at all I'd just take a calm bath to help any aches, and then maybe drink some cold juice and see if you can get baby to do a few reassuring wiggles. If you think you may be injure
  • I'd be heading to the ER.  I hope everything is okay!
  • Id call the doc, just to be on the safe side. Do you have an urgent care facility?

  • You should go just to be safe. It's not worth the alternative.
  • If you bounced on your bottom the whole way down, I would imagine that no trauma was caused to the baby to be concerned about. However, if it was me, I'd report it to the tele-nurse in case they feel that the repeated impact could trick your body into hav

  • I fell a week ago and I did go to the ER. The ER doctor told me that I did the right thing by coming in because the first hour after a fall is the most crucial. I felI directly on my belly and was perfectly fine, just a little bruising. I felt so much
  • I'm generally not overly cautious, and I would still go in. Falling down an entire flight of stairs qualifies as severe trauma regardless of how you did it.

  • I'd call the nurses line and see what they want you to do. However, I had two falls last pregnancy and everything worked out (if that makes you feel better). I wouldn't necessarily go to the ER unless I was bleeding, cramping or hadn't felt baby move a

  • OP, I am a maternity nurse, so please take my advice on this. Call your OB and ask to be seen. Believe me, no one will think anything poorly of you for calling for this reason. As PP said, a trauma like this can affect your placenta, which is your baby's

  • I'm sorry you fell and sure hope you and LO are okay. I'd probably take PP advice and call the nurse line, as well as drink some juice and count movements.

Give us an update when you can!

  • I actually did this exact thing a couple months ago, fell down the entire flight of stairs in my house. Except they're hardwood, not carpet. I called my OB and she had me go in for an emergency ultrasound and same-day appointment with her. Everything w

  • Not to scare you but I fell down a flight of stairs during my first pregnancy and hit my butt at the bottom hard enough that I had a huge bruise.   I was probably 22 weeks pregnant.   I did not get checked out.
