    A. Is preschool and daycare the same thing? No.  You can have a daycare and a preschool at the same place, though.

    B. How much does Preschool cost? (I never knew it cost money) It depends on where you go.  Montessori and those kinds are more expensive than morestructured places.

    C. How does daycare/preschool work? The kids go.  They learn shiit.  They come home.

    E. If you are a WM do you get off early to pick up your kids? N/A

  • Seriously, tho.  Daycare is just that, care during the day.  Most places offer fun activities and whatnot, but it's not a school environment.  Preschool is more focused on learning-play rather than play alone.

  • I was just talking to the neighbor lady who was telling me her daughter pays for preschool and daycare. Her LO goes 3 days a week for part of the day then goes to daycare. She has to pay daycare like her LO is there, they don't do half days or short weeks. It just seems like it would be a lot more money to pay daycare and preschool (if at different locations)

  • DD is in a MMO/preschool program.  Real preschool at her school doesn't start until she's 3.

    A. No, not at DD's school.  She goes 2 days a week for 4-5 hours per day.

    B. Our 2 day a week program is $120/month.  We're in a LCOL area though.

    C. She goes to school, plays with her friends, colors, sings songs, learns a letter or number or something and comes home.

    D. (where's D?)

    E. No, she stays with my mom and MIL while I work and they drop her off and pick her up.

  • Preschool and daycare are not the same thing. However, most daycares I know do a preschool curriculum with children who are the appropriate age.

We pay $170/month for 2 1/2 days per week. The rates around here varied, this was the lowest I found. We're in a HCOL area.

Not sure of your third question.

Most working parents  I know use the preschool room in a daycare because dedicated preschools generally don't have hours that accommodate a full time job. My daughter goes from 9-11:30 twice a week, not something that would be helpful for a working parent. They do offer extended days, but the longest day they offer is 8-2:30. Not sure what that costs, but I know it's quite a bit more than we're paying.

    A. Is preschool and daycare the same thing? -I think this has been covered.  What I like about my preschool is that its through the school district.  So they get tested for eyesight, hearing, etc.  Because we had DS1 in preschool, he qualifed for speech therapy through the schools.

    B. How much does Preschool cost? (I never knew it cost money)-2 day was $133 a month.  4 day is normally $270, but we got a grant and its free.  Whoot.

    C. How does daycare/preschool work? -I think this has been covered.

    E. If you are a WM do you get off early to pick up your kids? I am a WM and yes, because we get preschool at no cost, I pick DS up everyday at 11:45 and drive him to daycare (20 minute drive each way) It my entire lunch hour and it sucks, but its worth it.

  • I'm a SAHM and DS goes to preschool/MDO program 2 days a week from 92.

He's at a church preschool, so he goes to chapel once a week, they have music and art one day. They actually follow a curriculum, its more of a learning environment.

We pay 300 per month in a HCOL.

  • DD goes to a preschool - even though she is not 3/4 - that has certified early education instructiors and a curriculum with lesson plans based on learning objectives.  We have Parent Teacher Conferences, etc.  We pay for it, but it is also an all day program.  They are open from 7:30 to 6:00.

  • A. Is preschool and daycare the same thing?  Perhaps. Daycare/Preschools are changing rapidly and now offer learning opportunities and may not just be 'care' based only. All ages in my kids daycare operates with a Reggio curriculum, including the Pre-K class. My toddler and preschoolers are in the same building, and are learning age-appropriate.

    B. How much does Preschool cost? (I never knew it cost money). The same as daycare for us.

    C. How does daycare/preschool work? For us the same, they operate during work hours, some parents send their children during school hours only. We pay the same as we did prior to Pre-K.

    D.  If you are a WM do you get off early to pick up your kids? No

Of course, visit daycares and preschools in your area before committing. However I would not discredit a daycare-as their Pre-K program can be equally strong but also meet working parent needs.
