Gender neutral nursery help

For those of u planning a gender neutral nursery, what colors or themes are u using? I've been looking on brus and pottery barn for some ideas. I really don't want green bc most of my house is that color. If you have any examples from websites feel free to share!

    I want a gender neutral nursery as well! =]  I simply googled those words, and found some great ideas ~ I really like green, yellow and pops of brown (maybe even some red?).  I definitely think you could find something you'd like - but google is your friend in this case ;}

  • I'm doing orange and blue accents for our little boy. We are painting the walls gray. I plan on accenting the gray walls with pink when we have a little girl in the future. But I love orange in a nursery and I think it's pretty gender neutral.

  • DD's nursery walls are yellow on top, blue on bottom. She's got curtains that are yellow with blue flowers; if we have a boy, I'll change the curtains but that's it. I love yellow and blue and think they work well for either sex!

  • Although we aren't team green, we aren't doing a theme. I think we'll paint the room mint green or teel and then just add some accents that I like at vintage shops and so on.
  • I love red and aqua for gender neutral.

  • #1's nursery was painted a color called Belgian Waffle (from lowes) that I absolutely loved. It was a warm yellow and I just felt cozy in that room. We knew she was a girl, so the accents were girl-ish.

(totally forgot how much the lighting in that room sucks -- the color was actually a bit deeper/warmer & not as tan as it appears, but you get the idea)

#2's room (which will be #3's when they arrive) has 2 colors - a "fudge" (from lowes) brown on the bottom of the walls & a tealish blue/green on the top ("sea glass" from lowes). The chair rail is white & there are white decals on the walls.

(not the best picture of the girls, but the wall colors are pretty accurate -- please ignore the missing chair rail, that's been fixed)

  • I agree with pp that red and aqua is a great neutral color combo. I've also seen some nice neutral rooms with grey walls. Our nursery was yellow and the bedding was alphabet by banana fish. It is largely aqua but it was such a soft shade it really seemed girly enough to me to work for a girl!! ....good thing since we had a girl!

  • I love the Skip Hop Mod Dot but a good friend has that one so it was out. This Dr. Seuss One Fish Two Fish looks off-putting at first, BUT at closer look.... the things that you actually use, like the crib sheet and dust ruffle, do not have any fish on them. So it's basically just dots and stripes in primary colors which I love. We will not use the bumper and the quilt will just be for tummy time. I love the dots on the lamp, and then the picture frames for just a small touch of the fish! You could accent with any color or a few. So we will do baskets for storage in primary colors and accent with green alligators. Good luck!

I'm leaning towards buttermilk or a soft beige and adding in pink or purple or blue accents but I still feel like I would need to know the sex cause I wouldn't want to have to go get accent stuff after baby is here. It's killing me that decorating the room is the only reason that is pushing me to want to find out even though I want to wait.

Do u think buttermilk or beige is too blah or ok for walls as long as there are accent colors in the room for curtains, bedding etc?

    Thanks for the help ladies!

  • I kept the walls beige and got brown bedding with white polka dots.  Then I got a yellow curtain which was made from someone on Etsy.  Once DD was born I integrated pink/purple sheets and changing pad.  Truthfully keep it simple and my advice is don't spend a lot.  DD only used that bedding for a short time then we got  breathable bumpers and black out curtains.  Now we are moving to a house and I'm going to change it all again!  But I'm not buying new crib bedding for her, I'll wait until she's in a toddler bed then switch the bedding.

  • We are going with muted greys and orange and light yellow accents.

I love this website.  It gets updated all of the time and gives good ideas for color combinations.  We knew we wanted some orange (we have a bookshelf from IKEA that has orange shelves that's going in the nursery) and wasn't sure what else but this was a huge help!

  • I am really torn!  I think I either want to go with a red/tan/brown theme or grey/aqua.  I'm super picky, and DH told me that he was letting me pick the room's theme, so I'm all on my own for this one!  I just haven't seen anything I LOVE yet.

  • I *think* we are doing an underwater theme no matter if it's a boy or girl.

We are doing a monkey theme in the room - we aren't going to register for the bedding sets so we found a few things at BBB and BRU that we can use in the room.  We liked the mod pod pop monkeys at BRU. The room is currenty painted a light brown / dark tan color and we are going to leave it, so we are going to do the greens and dark browns to go with it.

  • We didn't buy a bedding set but we did a gender neutral theme.  I ordered some prints from Etsy, painted the room a turquoise, and did a theme of just bright colors.  Orange, lime green, magenta, etc.

We already have a grayish/purple on the walls so we are going with a white jenny lind crib, white ikea poang rocking chair, antique dark walnut dresser and dark sage green and gray accents.  We have light gray carpet in the room already.  It's definitely not your traditional color scheme, but I feel really comfortable with it and really can see either a boy or a girl in this room.  The nursery was the easiest thing for me to pull together.  Picking out a stroller...not so much.
