I've also become super close with a few girls from TB off board. I have much more in common with them than I do with my IRL friends.  We are going through the same things, where as my IRL friends are not married, don't have kids, 1/2 don't have jobs, and they go get drunk on Tuesdays (or any other random day of the week). Needless to say, we've drifted apart.

While I wish I had some girlfriends close by that I could go out with, I don't really think it's that awful that I'm closer with my internet friends right now than my IRL friends.

And also I'm super dee duper shy, so going out and making new friends who are more mature than my current friends is very difficult for me.

    This. All of it.

CG, unlike the nest, where I primarily hang, there seems to be an inordinate amount of desperation to be liked and, declarations of love here. I think there's a dangerous line that gets crossed when people rely too much on people they don't know and yes, yesterday's melee was a prime example. Obviously I'm a nosy cow who loves to hear rehashing of the drama but I have no desire to be a part of it.

I understand this and I've actually thought a lot about it in terms of TB vs. TN.

This board, like all the general boards ("general" meaning non-specific to an issue like IF or something) is more fluid than many of TN boards.  You guys on ML have known each other for years and years and years.  There are new people that join, but you don't really "move on" as it were and see new people show up on a regular basis.  A lot of Nesties board hop, but there isn't a general board move every 3-12 months.

I see much love going on in a lot of ML threads when an ongoing issue is being discussed or has some kind of resolution.

    Does that make sense?

Honestly, take the class. I despise exercise, due to being woefully uncoordinated, but yoga is great. And I feel like I get so much more out of the classes than the DVDs.

Yoga is non-competitive, and great for all levels. That's why I love it.

Maybe eventually I will. I don't really have an opportunity to take one now because I don't have childcare for DS. But that will give me time to try to strengthen my left hip. It's really weak. Even the trainer at the gym a few years ago just looked at me and was like "You have a really weak left hip." It causes me to fall over when I have to do balancing exercises. I don't mind at home but in class I'd feel like a doofus.

See, I don't get this. Why is being in the same boat a pre requisite for friendship? I feel like if people got over feeling like others need to 'get you', they'd have an easier time making connections. Are you all really putting yourself out there or hiding behind the fact that you are unique in your situation?

That said, I do know how hard it is to meet new people if you are not inclined that way or are in a new town etc.

It's not. But when my friend is trying to tell me about how she got so drunk the night before that she couldn't remember how she got home and woke up at some random guys house, I'm not really that interested in her story.

And I'm sure she could care less that my kid crapped in the tub. But if I tell my online friends, they will think it's funny. It's not that I need to be "in the same boat" as people to be friends with them, we just literally have nothing in common anymore.

have you tried to join a gym with day care?

The only one here with day care costs $45 a month (not including the extra daycare fee and yearly maintenance fees). I'm a SAHM so it's an expense we'd rather not take on right now since we're saving for a house down payment. I keep checking the Park and Rec schedule but they're not at times where I can leave DS with DH (when he's not traveling, at least). Maybe the summer schedule will be better.

Gyms are expensive here too. Have you checked local colleges? They might have bootcamp courses that run six weeks and may offer daycare.

That's a good idea, I'll have to look into it! thanks!

Another FFFC: I was peeved that someone was ragging on cannonsmommy about her son's name. I wanted to say something. Left to go to a meeting and I couldn't find the thread anymore. The board had blown up by then and I couldn't remember where it was said.

This beyond pisses me off.  Why on earth would anyone think that this would be ok?

Lol yeah. My FFFC, to add on to Lilyrose and CG: as a former 9-12er, can we lay off the drama and dragging old vendettas or whatever from off-boards for a bit? I liked Jerk's saga since I knew who Emjay was and kind of wondered what happened to her/BGP, but holy smokes, all the bickering is making 9-12 look like a bunch of psychos. FTR, like 90% of 9-12ers were not part of BGP or the other board. Gah.

  • I was 1000% unimpressed by the 9-12/emjay shizzle from yesterday.  That a bunch of grown-ass women would let another person tell them what to do is beyond ridiculous, and it makes me think they're a lil' short on the brains.

Well who made fun of a baby's name?

    It's in this thread:

    https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/65455616.aspx

ETA:  It was referred to as "questionable naming" which imo, was kind of out of line.  I don't think it was necessarily meant to be mean-spirited, but it was a bad call.

That link is Exhibit A in my case that the 9-12ers need to unbunch.

  • Last week I wore a shirt from Top Chef that said, in bright orange letters, "I HAVE A CULINARY BONER." I wore it to bed on Thurs night, then Fri morning I thought I'd take DD to school (yeah, in my jammies.).  So I did and I talked to a few moms and I ran some errands and talked to the neighbor and I couldn't figure out why everybody averted their eyes and wouldn't really talk to me until I came home and looked in the mirror and saw the word BONER in bright orange over my boobs.

    Awesome.

  • Holy shiit, this is a long thread.

For one, I'm sporadic on the board because of the job and all, so I'm totally one of those who pops in whenever and can be rather horish.  Oh well...  :)

My FFFC:  If I were to go into labor around 38 weeks, I would be ok with that. Maybe it's because I had my boys at 36w3d and they were both healthy take home babies.  Also, at my 32 week appt, she was estimated to weigh over 5lbs.  I'm dying over here.

I think it's flameful you run errands in your jammies!

I changed into regular clothes to take my trashcan to the curb.  But then again we used to have a neighbor who wore his pjs outside in the middle of the day.  We referred to him as "weird pj guy"

Heh.  My jammies are a t-shirt, some maternity workout pants, and a sports bra so. . .   Eh.  Nobody really KNOWS they're my jammies.  But the Boner shirt's a jammies shirt because, well, boner, yo.

Seriously though. . . I don't run errands in my jammies that often - but I needed coffee.

I think it's flameful THAT I ALLOWED MYSELF TO RUN OUT OF COFFEE.  That's just messed up.

Okay, i have a bad one... Embarrassed

This happened last year, we got in a fender bender and had to get the driver door fixed and re-painted... Well the day it was supposed to be ready, we called them to ask what time we could get the jeep and they said, "Oh, it won't be ready til Monday, the guy who was supposed to paint it got fired...", We were peeved they never called us to let us know.

We had our bank call them (since our insurance allowed us to get a rental car) because it wasn't the bank's fault the guy got fired, so therefore the car place would have to pay for our continued rental services until the jeep was done. Well, they told the bank that the reason it wasn't ready was because a part they needed hadn't arrived yet. HMMMMM??

5 minutes later the car place calls us back and says, "Oh, your jeep will be ready by 5..." (It was 3:30 pm... interesting how the paint guy must have come back to finish the job, AND the part must have arrived in the last 20 minutes of this fiasco.)

When we went to pick it up, The jeep emblem was missing (they cost $50 or so to replace) AND my itouch was gone. =| After half an hour of arguing, they finally wrote me a $200 check in "good faith". Luckily my Mom had an extra Jeep emblem in the garage and mailed it to us!

6 months later we found the itouch in the side of the door in a different car =/ We never did anything about it. I still feel a little guilty for it...

You left valuables in a car while it was being serviced?

I was thinking the same thing.  I try to make a point of taking everything out before we take the car in for any service or work.  I just don't trust people.
