While DH and I were at my Dad's house for Thanksgiving, my Dad brought up the subject of Grandchildren as he always does. He is adorably excited...and keeps hinting at the fact that he can't wait to have them. (I'm working on it!) Haha.
Anyway...he started talking about what he wants to be called when he has Grandkids. My Dad wants to be called "Pappy" and my Step-Mom (his wife) said she likes "Mimi".
Obviously this isn't even a worry yet, but it got me thinking about all the various names for grandparents out there.
So...have your parents shared with you what they'd like to be called? If you already have kids, what do they call your parents? What do you call your grandparents?
My family is very Italian, so we grew up calling my grandmother Nonne and my grandfather Papa (on my Dad's side) and on my Mom's side it was simply Grandma and Grandpa.
Hope you're all enjoying your Saturday!

Re: Cart Before Horse: Grandparent Names
My parents don't have any grandchild and won't until we ahve them (I'm a only child). They've both mentioned they like/want "Grandma" and "Grandpa"
My MIL and FIL already have 3 grandkids and are called PawPaw and Gammaw
My parents don't have grandchildren yet either
I'm not an only child...but I am the oldest and only one married (not saying that constitutes the only reason to have a child) but my sisters are younger than me, not married, and obviously aren't TTC!
Your parents will be so excited when you give them news of a pregnancy! My fingers, toes, and everything else that can be crossed are crossed for your next cycle!
Chemical Pregnancy

both sides already have grandchildren. ILs are Nana and Papa.
My parents are a little more complicated. My father was supposed to be Buca, but my nephew had trouble saying it so its now Bubba.
There was a lot of fighting about my mothers name. She finally decided on Noname (no name) pronounced No-nah-me, then she changed it to be pronounced No-num, but of course my nephew changed it to Nona.

My mom and Step Dad are Nana and Papa.
My dad and Step Mom are Papa and Grandma.
My MIL is Nana.
My FIL and stepMIL are Grandpa and Grandma.
My grandparents have always been Grandma and Grandpa, usually with their last name following.

I just referred to my parents as Grandma and Grandpa when my daughter was a baby. When she was old enough to talk she started calling them GranGran and Papa, so that's what they are now.
My exMIL wanted to be Oma because she's from Germany. My exH's dad is just referred to as Old Man.
They call my husband's parents (their step-grandparents) Papa and Grandma with their first names after the endearment.

My parents were going by Grandma and Grandpa until my niece (oldest grandchild) could talk. She called them Gigi and Poppy. Her other Grandma is Mimi. So future kids will call them by those names.
Dh's parents right now are calling themselves Grandma and Captain. And no, Fil is not a captain. He just started calling himself that as a joke and it stuck. We will see if our children will call them that or if they'll come up with their own names.

I love cart before the horse threads, so thank you
I actually haven't thought too much about it. I imagine my dad will just want to be called Grandpa. DH's mom and step dad are already Grandma Lisa and Grandpa Louie, I imagine that will stay the same. The wild card will be DH's dad since he is basque and his whole family tends to go by the french name. He'll probably stick with atachi (I think that's the right word).

My parents already have five grandkids, so they're already Abuelita and Grosbvati (Grosfati? You know, I've never tried to write that down...) It kind of makes no sense anyways, my mom just decided that since she (kind of) speaks Spanish, she liked the sound of Abuelita better. And my dad just followed in suite with German. But at least he's got German heritage and is actually fluent in German.
For my ILs, it will be their first, and we've sort of wondered lately what they might be called. They're French-Canadian, but we're fairly certain that FIL won't want to be Grandpere, because that's what MH calls his grandfather, and since he's still alive, that would be odd. Maybe Pepe and Nana?

My dad is dying for grandchildren and he has made it very clear that he will be "grandpa" (he hates papa, pawpaw, etc). I am very stuck on what to do about his girlfriend though. She and I get along fine, while I don't think they ever plan to marry, they've been together for 4.5 years so I think she's sticking around, and I know she will be a wonderful grandma figure to them. But it makes me sad because I want my future kids to know who their grandma is (my mom is deceased) and I DO NOT want my dad's girlfriend to be called grandma.
I originally thought to have them just call her by name, but then I figured she probably does deserve some kind of title. I am mostly of dutch background and MH is mostly german, and I discovered Oma is grandma in both languages so right now that's our pick.
My inlaws already have 6 grand kids and they are called Nana and Papa. I simply call both sets of my grandparents "grandma and grandpa". To differentiate when talking about them, we said grandma and grandpa in the house (they live in the suburbs) and grandma and grandpa on the farm ( they obviously lived on a farm, lol).

My brother already has a little girl so my mom and stepdad are Nana and Grandpa. My dad and stepmom are granddad and baba Jo.
Growing up...we called my mom's parents Nana and Gaga and I loved those names! (my brother couldn't say Grandpa...so it became gaga)
My grandparents were (mom's side) Nanny and PawPaw and on my dad's Grandma Nila - Nila being her first name.
My daughter was the 1st grandchild for both sides and my mom wanted to be called Nanny, but since I was so close with my Nanny, I said absolutely not and we went for Nana. She is called Nana and my stepdad is called Grandpa.
My kids call all other grandfathers PawPaw "Firstname."
