Anyone hear of this? My MIL says it's the best and wants us to get it. The reviews are all good. But I don't know if it will just make me paranoid... I'm not sold yet, but leaning toward it.
I was thinking about registering for that, but some of the reviews on Amazon pointed out that it's not good for travel (like if the baby stays overnight at Grandma's). Also, it's possible that the baby can scoot down away from the platform, and the alarm will sound b/c it won't pick up baby's movements.
Now I'm thinking about getting the Snuza. It's a portable unit that clips on to the baby's diaper, so it's easy to use wherever the baby is sleeping. Here's the link on Amazon:
It seems unnecessary imo. It's one thing to have a video monitor, etc...but another to detect movement. Babies move, it's normal.
The purpose of the movement sensor monitors is to detect when baby STOPS moving. Some are sensitive enough to detect when baby stops breathing, and then an alarm sounds if there's no movement for 20 seconds, for example.

That makes sense too. Isn't it normal for a baby to not move as well when they're sleeping? Or are you referring to the movement of the chest just from breathing?
I have onbe and love it! I thought I wanted a video monitor, but when I am sleeping I won't be looking at my LO! The Angel Care has an alarm that will sound it baby is NOT breething (if movement isn't detected) I sleep ALOT better with amade to help new born and having it. I believe it is used to help calm our nerves about SIDS! I recommend this to ALL my pregnant friends!

::Sigh:: Newb.
My baby has severe IAR (Infant Acid Reflux). He has a tendency to stop breathing in his sleep once every 3 weeks. I had him next to me, in a bassinet, until 6 months because of this. I would hear him stop breathing and would have to lightly shake him to get him going again.
There are other times that he would wake up with a loud gasp (think drowning) because of his condition.
I bought the AngelCare monitor when I moved him to his crib, and it has given me immeasurable peace of mind. After 20 seconds of non-movement, the alarm goes off. It is sensitive enough to detect the movement from breathing.
There are many ladies on the baby boards who have infants with conditions who use this monitor. We all give it high praises.
Every baby is different. I didn't use/need one for my first. My baby seemed perfectly healthy the first 3 weeks of his life, didn't even cry. Then his IAR kicked in. It's something you'll just have to wait and see if you'll need.
Wow, I'm glad you found something to give you peace of mind. That must have been so scary. I didn't think about this monitor helping with a specific condition like reflux. I assumed it was primarily for SIDS.

Yes, you're right...I am a newb. As are most here I believe. Sorry if my lack of knowledge offended you.
Thanks, that makes more sense now. When I first read that it detected movement...I thought it mean movement from squirming or rolling around, hence my skepticism of the need for it.

It wasn't your lack of knowledge that offended me. It was your biitchy tone in your reply that turned me off.
Wasn't meant in a bitchy tone. If you read my last post you'll see I didn't realize it detected movement from breathing (which makes sense). I thought she meant movement in general...like the baby squirming.

Backpedalling.
Here's a piece of wisdom for you: before replying to a question about a specific item, perhaps you should research said item before adding your input. Then, you'll be sure to not have this happen again.
YWIA.
Not backpedaling...I had already admitted I misunderstood the "movement" part. I apologize. Your right, maybe I should have researched more before posting...but I was just commenting based off of the quick view I did of the website. Again, my fault and should have done more research.
I'm not trying to make enemies on here. This board has been great so far and I'd like to keep it that way.
We have it and LOVE it...I highly recommed it. It gave me such a piece of mind when my DD started sleeping in her own crib. I tried the video monitor, but that didn't help detect if the baby was breathing or not, the picture was not close enough. I slept so much ebtter knowing she was safe and the alarm would sound. It then converts to a regular monitor when you don't want to use the sensor pad anymore.
For those of you who have used this, I did a quick website review, and noticed there is an option for "vibration parent alert" does it have the capability to vibrate if the baby cries/etc? TIA
The woman I used to nanny for got one for her third child. He shared a room with his 6 year old brother. She loves it because one night the 6 year old tried to take the baby out of the crib (not trying to hurt him just wanted to play) and the alarm went off. I will be getting one of these for sure!

ETA: After finding out more about it, it sounds like a great monitor. I misunderstood the "movement" part of it. Makes much more sense to me now.

Yes, breathing = movement.

I have a friend who used one and she said it was the only reason she could sleep at night.
I plan on registering for one.
we used this with our DD and loved it.
So nice to know that she is breathing and doing well.
