Re: Christmas Gifts
I always grew up with 100% gifts from Santa. So DD will get none from DH and I. Yes we have x amount set aside for her for xmas. We have started shopping and will probably finish black friday. She is getting a princess piano, books, dolls, bath toys, art stuff and possibly a doll house (DH and I are still split on this one).
For DS only, we have a budget of $250-300...we don't work with a specific number of gifts, just with a dollar budget...
ETA-we'll have some from Santa and some from me/DH
Gifts will probably mostly be from Santa. As for budget, I want to keep it around $150 but that will include stocking stuffers too.
His "big" gift is going to be a play kitchen. Other gifts on his list include a pet net, slippers, 24 month size sleepers, DVD's, books, play food sets, and an interactive Elmo doll.
We aren't going to buy him all these things. The grandparents will ask for a list so some of these will be purchased by the grandparents.

We haven't set a budget yet, but DD will be getting four gifts from us every year: Something she wants, something she needs, something to wear, and something to read.
I'm not sure what this year's "want" will be but we're looking into wagons and sleds for the Winter. She'll probably need sleepers or pants. I'll see how her wardrobe looks closer to December. We'll buy her an outfit, and get her a Christmas book.
On top of those four gifts, she'll get one more from Santa.

Started our exploration into the world of international adoption June 2012. We have no idea what this is going to look like but we are excited to find out!
We don't really set an item amount and this year he may get a bit more toys then last year only because he is showing an intrest in toys.In our home toys are all from "Santa" and he will have clothes, coat, shoes from mom and dad. He also gets gifts from his grandmothers, aunts, and uncles so the gift count is pretty hefty. So far I have gotten him the Let's Rock Elmo, Little People Zig the Big Rig, Rumble and blast space ship, and this learning toy from Leapfrog that looks like a iPad. He will probably also get the instruments for Elmo and his big gift will be the Power Wheels Disney Cars.
Santa will come to our house but gifts will be from DH & I.
Santa will bring their stockings. We also celebrate 3 kings day (Epiphany) so they will get a gift on that day too.
I do set a budget for each kid and already started collecting toys that have gone on sale that were on my list.
I agree with this 100%. DD won't remember, and could care less about 'Santa' this year. Maybe next year when she has a better concept of what Christmas is we'll get her 1 or 2 gifts from Santa, but that's is.
She has like 8 grandparents who all send ridiculous amounts of stuff anyway so DH and I try to keep gifts to a minimum..
