Re: Christmas Gifts

  • I always grew up with 100% gifts from Santa. So DD will get none from DH and I.  Yes we have x amount set aside for her for xmas. We have started shopping and will probably finish black friday. She is getting a princess piano, books, dolls, bath toys, art stuff and possibly a doll house (DH and I are still split on this one).

  • We'll probably just do Santa... she is still too young to really get all excited about it, so as much as i want to go big and make it special, I feel like I should just wait to spend more when she does understand. For now we'll probably try to stick with 3 or 4 gifts from Santa, and I'm sure family will be sending her gifts, too... As much as i love shopping for her and making things exciting, i almost feel like it's pointless to shower her with toys this year.

  • We stick with a $$ amount and honestly get very practical things for her since she still doesnt get it.  We also only get her 2-3 things for christmas morning...then we wait to see what family gets her and then we get her more the day after christmas at the sales to fill in things she might need.  She doesn't know the difference and it prevents us form ending up with all toys or all cloths.

  • Gifts will probably mostly be from Santa.  As for budget, I want to keep it around $150 but that will include stocking stuffers too.

His "big" gift is going to be a play kitchen.  Other gifts on his list include a pet net, slippers, 24 month size sleepers, DVD's, books, play food sets, and an interactive Elmo doll.

We aren't going to buy him all these things.  The grandparents will ask for a list so some of these will be purchased by the grandparents.

  • We haven't set a budget yet, but DD will be getting four gifts from us every year: Something she wants, something she needs, something to wear, and something to read.

I'm not sure what this year's "want" will be but we're looking into wagons and sleds for the Winter. She'll probably need sleepers or pants. I'll see how her wardrobe looks closer to December. We'll buy her an outfit, and get her a Christmas book.

On top of those four gifts, she'll get one more from Santa.

  • We give as many gifts as our budget allows.  It's not a set number of gifts and the number will change from year to year depending on what we buy!  Last year we gave 4 (3 from us, 1 from Santa) because a couple of her gifts were rather pricey.  This year, she may only be getting 3 or 4 again because of the same reason.  And we just buy the gifts and then pick a random one to come from Santa.  Our budget however will remain the same year to year until she is probably a teenager and then we may bump it up by about $50.  Right now it's $100 and that is MORE then enough for her.

  • We don't have a specific budget, but it will probably be around $300 because we will be getting DD a play kitchen plus some smaller things like books and clothes.  I don't think we will be going off a set amount every year.  Last year(she was 10 months at Christmas), I think we spent all of $20 on her gift.  I couldn't think of anything she really needed, she didn't "get" the whole present thing, and the grandparents went totally overboard.  So, we made a nice deposit into her college account and a donation to a charity, instead.  That's something I'd like to continue this year even though she is getting more gifts.
  • Last year, we only did stuff from Santa. I'm not sure how we'll split it this year. We didn't set a budget yet, but he'll get a few things, some of which will be practical, such as clothes or pajamas, as well as books and a toy of some sort.

  • No budget, and I don't have a clue as to the number from us or Santa.  Once I start shopping I'll figure that all out.  As of now, I know he's getting the keyboard and guitar that goes with his Let's Rock Elmo(we got him for his bday) and those will be from us.  We're "one and done" so I'm sure his Christmas will be like his birthday and be utterly ridiculous - I have a bit of a gift-buying problem.

  • We don't really set an item amount and this year he may get a bit more toys then last year only because he is showing an intrest in toys.In our home toys are all from "Santa" and he will have clothes, coat, shoes from mom and dad. He also gets gifts from his grandmothers, aunts, and uncles so the gift count is pretty hefty. So far I have gotten him the Let's Rock Elmo, Little People Zig the Big Rig, Rumble and blast space ship, and this learning toy from Leapfrog that looks like a iPad. He will probably also get the instruments for Elmo and his big gift will be the Power Wheels Disney Cars.

  • Not sure exactly how many he will get from DH and I, most will be from Santa.  So maybe between 5-10 presents from us.  Just depends on how big they are.

  • No budget but 100% from Santa.

  • Santa will come to our house but gifts will be from DH & I.

Santa will bring their stockings. We also celebrate 3 kings day (Epiphany) so they will get a gift on that day too.

I do set a budget for each kid and already started collecting toys that have gone on sale that were on my list.

I agree with this 100%.  DD won't remember, and could care less about 'Santa' this year.  Maybe next year when she has a better concept of what Christmas is we'll get her 1 or 2 gifts from Santa, but that's is.

She has like 8 grandparents who all send ridiculous amounts of stuff anyway so DH and I try to keep gifts to a minimum..
