Way TMI- Retained Placenta?

After my birth (a month ago today) I hemorrhaged and it was suspected that I was retaining placental membranes because mine were shredded and I had a fainting spell. After observation and futher exams, they decided I didn't have any more signs of the suspected retention of placental membranes. My placenta was intact but I just passed a "clot" the size of a kiwi. It looks fleshy to me like membranes rather than just blood. My bleeding isn't too heavy so I'm not worried about the being a late hemorrhage. I'm mostly worried about infection. From the information I was given on the effects of this, I could have infertility issues in the future. That scares me. I really don't want to go to the Dr. especially since I've already passed the thing and I'm not running a fever or feeling crampy. WWYD? Anyone experience this.

  • I always read that if the clot is larger than a golf ball, you should seek medical attention.

No experience but I would definately call your doctor. Let them decide if you should be seen or not.

This! A kiwi sized clot does not sound like something to shrug off. Hopefully they can answer your concerns over the phone.

  • I also clotted and passed a clementine sized  clot last Wednesday.  I called my doctor, because that's what they told me to do when we left the hospital.  The doctor was totally unfazed (even though I said, "But it was the size of a clementine!" like 13 times. He said that you will have good and bad bleeding days and as long as I wasn't dizzy or felt a tightening in my chest, etc, I was fine.  I was so not ready to believe him, because I continued to bleed heavily all day long.  However...the next day and thereafter my bleeding has been significantly less.

  • I suggest you call your doctor. I passed a 3x1 inch mass two weeks ago myself and was rather scared. As light might have it, it happened on Friday afternoon when my doctor's office was closed. However I was able to talk to her on the phone. After I had negated her questions *Do you soak more than one pad per hour? *Has your bleeding increased? *Do you have an elevated temperature? she had me set up an ultrasound appointment for the following Monday. The ultrasound that no remaining tissue was left. She said it must have been a little part of the placenta, similar to an appendix. Since I passed it myself and I don't have any signs of infection I was cleared. But please, call your doctor to discuss your situation. Better safe than sorry!
  • Well, I would have called before even thinking to post here. I hope you are okay.
