S/O pets and pregnancy

Just curious here- some ladies mentioned their pets get extra clingy or act different during pregnancy and others say theirs are seemingly oblivious.  Are the more "attuned" animals females or has anyone's male pet been acting different?  Both my dogs are males and I don't see a noticeable difference in their actions (they are already so cuddly I don't think I'd notice if they got more so!).

Re: S/O pets and pregnancy

  • the behavior changes were more noticible in our male cat than our female. But he's always been the more standoffish one of the two, so it was a lot more obvious when he went from not caring to wanting attention and cuddles all the time.

  • it's my female who is more attentive. our male has to be one of the dumbest cats i've ever met and he'll just do what ever our female does. but our female won't leave me alone lol!

  • I only have a male cat, and he's definitely gotten more clingy throughout my pregnancy. I'm getting a little worried about how put off he's going to be after I bring LO home and can't snuggle with him all the time.

  • I have 2 male and 2 female cats. One male that i've had 9 years is always clingy and cuddly, but he has gotten a lot more attached. Doesn't want to let the others come near me. 1 female is a kitten that we found when she was 3 weeks old right before I got my BFP, so I've been pg almost the whole time we've had her. The other male and female we've had for 3 years, and are not normally cuddly. They both have been a lot more, not cuddly, but around. They follow me and watch me, and when I am lying on the bed, they make a shield around me. DH says they act like they are "protecting me".

  • Interesting question....

My two dogs are both male, and they are totally oblivious. I wonder if it would matter for others though if they are fixed or not? The hormones pumping through them might be at different levels? No idea, just curious now that you brought it up.

  • It's my male dog as well! He used to lay on my stomach and lay all over me and I swear from the day we conceived he hasn't laid more than his head on my tummy!!  However my female French Bulldog could care less (or notice) and steps all over me ALL the time!!

  • My dog is female and she is clueless. She seems a little annoyed about there being less room on the couch, but other than that, no reaction to growing belly.

  • I have one male and one female they seem pretty oblivious but look at them, do they look like the smartest dogs to you? Hopefully if they knew they wouldn't jump on my belly as much.

  • My female cat started becoming cuddle monster during the 2ww.  Our female dog knows something is changing, but not quite sure what it is.

  • I have 2 female labs and a male cat. Bella, the lab that I have had for 3 years, has definitely become more clingy within the past week. She is unusually gentle with me, and always wants to be by my side. She thinks that I need a chaperone EVERYWHERE I go. Also, my male cat (who is always lovey and cuddly) has taken his cuddles to the next level. He also follows me everywhere I go. We got my other lab in November, so I have always been pregnant around her. I sure hope that this new clinginess means that labor is soon!! I am SO ready!!!
