in my opinion smoking a joint is not as bad as having a drink. with weed if something happened to my lo i would be calmer than if i had a drink with weed i would be able to say ok we need to take dd to the ER or call 911 with a drink i would prob freak out for 5min fires then come around an call 911 or take her to ER. I do agree with PP that if everyone would just smoke a joint every now and then the world would be a much better place. but i also agree that one parent should be clear headed. although DH does smoke so much pot hes clear headed with an 8th in his system. im not condoning smoking pot or anything but when you smoke like he does....

Yeah, smoking just doesn't impair you like alcohol does. I've always seen a huge difference. I'd rather smoke than drink any day of the week.

I don't think it's a big deal, at all, as long as you know your limits and your judgment isn't out of whack. I also don't know why you need to worry about driving in an emergency- that's what 911 is for, yes?

Maybe I'm just a bit too crunch granola for y'all, but I personally feel that the world would be a much better place if we all smoked a little ganja.

I would be 100% yes then. I'm a big old pvssy. I would however just do an after work toke and not break out the gravity and the ice cubes, YKWIM?

I agree. It doesn't matter how little you smoke or drink, you're still somewhat impaired.

Personally with babies or little children in our homes, I don't see why this should be done at all but that's another discussion.

Cold medicine also impairs you, how do you feel about things like that? (without it being a legal thing)

It's not really about it being illegal for me, but yes cold medicine does impair you and that is why I don't even take it. In our home, I'm the "responsible one" as H says, so I don't drink nor smoke.

I live and lead my life by example and kids nowadays are not the least bit naive, so even though a parent would try to do this while a kid is sleeping, I think they would pick up on it -- for example, some kids fake sleeping sometimes or what if you start toking up, and your kid wakes up randomly because they're scared or sick and catches you?

I speak for myself, but my response comes from growing up around people that have smoked around their kids and that deal around their kids and I haven't seen anything good come out of it. My H has smoked since he was 13 and his mom even did it with him on occasion, and I've always wondered about that.

I don't think it has any health benefits either as some may claim (my H being one of them) -- this does not include people that take it for medical reasons. I'm talking about smokers that do it for recreational purposes.

This is a P&R cause my shift at work is over, but I'll check in later.

Have two friends who do/did while raising kids long before DH and I even considered it. My one friend is irresponsible in the rest of her life too so I totally dont even use her for an example (except that I like the way she treats her kids and rewards and disciplines them). The other one, yeah his kid knows, but he is also responsible and the kid knows his dad only does it rarely when he is on his mom weekends only and that first priority is always taking care of the kid, the home, the pets, etc, and that the little bit he smokes is only when it doesnt interfere with other stuff.

Well 911 is a fine option if you've had too much to drink, but EMTs are trained to recognize drug use and are mandatory reporters to child welfare. So it would be essentially calling the authorities on yourself. And in most states, they do remove children from homes where illegal drugs are being used even if its just weed.

Too much trouble. I guess the pretty little bottles (water bongs) I got as gifts will have to do. Sigh. One of them is not even used because I got it for Xmas a month after I quit a couple of years ago. Assuming I can even find it if I want a smoke. Smoking makes me very paranoid so I dont miss that part, although DH (who doesn't smoke) misses the part where it also makes me industrious when it comes to housework and allows him to do stuff like the question I didnt respond to in one of the Friday posts.
