Yes. But I also look down on parents who both get heavily intoxicated after their child goes to sleep. I think at least one parent needs to be sober and clear-headed in case of an emergency.
I truly think that the world would be a better place if everyone smoked weed regularly.
It would certainly help the Middle East.

I'm on the fence with it. Without going into details I can tell you one time I needed to go to the hospital as a kid (busted lip) and I had to wait for my mom to come home. I didn't understand why at the time but now I'm kind of pissed about it. There were a lot of times like that growing up. I also think about all the times they could have gotten busted, jail, lost jobs, etc. This of course didn't keep me from smoking up but I didn't have kids.
I am extremely paranoid too and living in an apartment freaks me out with it. I just don't know. If it were decriminalized I'd likely say yes.

I don't. I think it's the same thing as drinking some alcohol before bed. That being said I think everyone reacts to it differently so I guess as long as your able to function and not putting the kid in danger.
DH and I wouldn't do that. We have an agreement that one of us needs to be sober enough to drive at all times, just in case we had to bring J to the doctor in the middle of the night or something.
I don't think both parents should get high. It is the same with drinking. I just feel like one parent needs to be clear-headed.
You just never know what is going to happen.
You can smoke and be clear headed.
I'm not clear-headed at all when I've smoked. I guess if one parent can gurantee that they will be OK to drive or pull kids out of a burning house, then I don't have a problem with it.
I think it's fine as long as you are still functioning, and unless you are a n00b or living in a Judd Apatow movie most people our age should know how to handle themselves.

I would smoke as long as my dh was completely sober and vise versa. Do me I have been drunk and high (different times) and being drunk I would not be able to care for lo or half way myself. High I can do what I normally do. It makes me way more focused than I am now. I would only do it also when lo was in bed or at gparents house. I think alcohol is way worse than weed though. As long as your responsible and it won't affect your job or lo its ok. But I sahm and work for my inlaws and I haven't smoked since 6 months before preggo and I am almost 7 mo pp now. I still nurse so I won't smoke till lo is off the boobie and only on super rare occasion.

LOL. Agreed. Some people can't raise children even while sober.
I don?t think it?s much different from me having wine or Woodchuck after they go to bed. I have no problem with it personally.
However, it is illegal and if the nosey, angry, old man next door called the cops because he smelled something what would happen? I honestly don?t know what would or could happen but that is my main concern when I?m at my house. If I was visiting my brother?s 60-acre farm? My thoughts would be different I imagine. (Old man neighbor calls the cops or the town bi-monthly about something. He thinks he?s the neighborhood enforcer. He?s never called the cops on us but he has called the town about our fence and other things a few times.)

I do only b/c I think it is irresponsible to do illegal drugs (no matter how "minor") when you are home with your children.
I also think that parents should not both drink excessively when responsible for their child(ren) over night.
This. I'm surprised how many people have justified it.
I agree. It doesn't matter how little you smoke or drink, you're still somewhat impaired.
Personally with babies or little children in our homes, I don't see why this should be done at all but that's another discussion.
Cold medicine also impairs you, how do you feel about things like that? (without it being a legal thing)
It's not really about it being illegal for me, but yes cold medicine does impair you and that is why I don't even take it. In our home, I'm the "responsible one" as H says, so I don't drink nor smoke.
I live and lead my life by example and kids nowadays are not the least bit naive, so even though a parent would try to do this while a kid is sleeping, I think they would pick up on it -- for example, some kids fake sleeping sometimes or what if you start toking up, and your kid wakes up randomly because they're scared or sick and catches you?
I speak for myself, but my response comes from growing up around people that have smoked around their kids and that deal around their kids and I haven't seen anything good come out of it. My H has smoked since he was 13 and his mom even did it with him on occasion, and I've always wondered about that.
I don't think it has any health benefits either as some may claim (my H being one of them) -- this does not include people that take it for medical reasons. I'm talking about smokers that do it for recreational purposes.
This is a P&R cause my shift at work is over, but I'll check in later.

LOL! Our nosy old lady neighbor would probably ask us for some "for her glaucoma" if we had it.
That's one of the benefits of living where we do. Nobody cares at all if people smoke the weed. I can't tell you the number of times I've been woken up at night by the smell of weed drifting into our house on a summer's night. And we live out in Whitey McMansion Suburbia.

If it was legalized it would be ok in your opinion?
I would not do it but, if it were legal, it would fall in the "as long as one parent is still 100% capable of handling an emergency, and taking care of their child" category for me.
As a child of an alcoholic myself, it always scared me whenever a person of authority was "altered" around me. I didn't trust them and didn't know what they would do. Even if they were happy drunks, its still really confusing to a kid when their parents are acting strange. So I do judge people that get high on any drug, legal or not, while taking care of their children. Personally, my child won't see me buzzed until they're old enough to drink themselves. I don't mean they won't see me drink a glass of wine or a cocktail, but it will stop with one and I won't be altered.
To PP's points, you never know when you may have to drive a kid to the ER or something and for both parents to render themselves unable to drive safely is irresponsible. Not to mention if the authorities had to show up for any reason and found you doing illegal drugs, the next people that would show up to your door would be CPS. Not worth the chance IMO.
All that said, I also think weed should be legal, regulated, grown domestically and taxed. Its not that I have a problem with weed, just with getting high while watching kids.
I give up trying to get a ticker. I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome. Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself. Hmmm. How about...
"It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?" - A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh
in my opinion smoking a joint is not as bad as having a drink. with weed if something happened to my lo i would be calmer than if i had a drink with weed i would be able to say ok we need to take dd to the ER or call 911 with a drink i would prob freak out for 5min fires then come around an call 911 or take her to ER. I do agree with PP that if everyone would just smoke a joint every now and then the world would be a much better place. but i also agree that one parent should be clear headed. although DH does smoke so much pot hes clear headed with an 8th in his system. im not condoning smoking pot or anything but when you smoke like he does....

You just never know what is going to happen.
This. And no, I dont look down on someone who needs to get a little "relaxed" after the kid is in bed for the night, whether it be by drinking or smoking. Better to do it at home then go somewhere else and be driving home intoxicated.
