I'm bored...so tell me how you came to name your LO his/her name!
Here's our story:
DH and I didn't agree on names at all. He likes very traditional names while I like things that are more unique. We each had a list of names that we liked, but none that both of us loved. I really wanted something Italian since DD is 75% Italian and was already getting DH's very Irish last name. One night we were talking and D suggested Gina, which I don't particularly care for. So I said, what about Gia? And he goes, "I like that!".
We never found another name we both loved as much, so...Gia she is!
We are screwed if we ever have another and it's a girl! Gia's middle name is Danielle and that's the only other girl name that we both really like.
Re: How did LO get his/her name?
we wanted an Irish name to honor DH's Grandmother...originally we were going to use Riley weather we had a boy or a girl...but one night I was looking at baby names online and came across Kinley which had the meaning (on this site) "fair haired Viking"
well...i'm a huge Minnesota Vikings fan & DH & I both had white blonde hair growing up...so i suggested it as a joke...but then it started really growing on us & it stuck!
It took us forever to pick a name. I was actually giving up until after she was born ( I was 36 wks at that point) because I just couldn't stop stressing over it. Then H and I were on the phone and he nonchalantly said, "What about Indie?". I instantly told him I loved it, and that pretty much decided her name. Her middle name was a bit harder because we couldn't pair it with something else that was odd. So we finally decided on Amelia, but I don't remember how long it took us.
I remember feeling so relieved as soon as he said it, because I knew it was THE name. I didn't even second/triple/quadruple guess it like I did all the runner-ups.
DH turned down all of my other ideas... lol. I talked to his ex wife about it and we both were laughing at how picky he is with names. Its ridiculous. But at least we have a common ground now haha.
We actually picked her name long before she was born on a date... it was a sort of a test to see if we were compatible and we both chose the exact same boy and girl name. It never changed.... it was always Isabella for us.
Though now she's just Isy for now
LO's first name was chosen from a baby-names book. We wanted something not too common yet not too "out there."
LO's middle name, Parker, is a last name on my side of the family. The Parkers were very involved in many goings-on in Texas history.
This just made me tear up a little!
Our son is Walker Harold. Walker is my Mom's maiden name and Harold is my DH, FIL, and GFILs names/middle names. We are big on namesakes and have a girls name ready and another boys name ready to go once we decide we are ready for #2. (That's gonna be awhile though.)
Aww, thanks. Walker is a cutie. We should set up Jane and Walker.
DH wanted to name DS Hunter, but for some reason, I just couldn't buy into it. I loved the name Ethan but that's BIL's middle name.
DS then suggested Logan; I liked it, he liked it (mostly because it's Wolverine from the X-Men's real name), so Logan it was.
Robert is a family middle name, and since Logan is the first grandchild, tradition had to be used, and Hamilton is my maiden name, and i wanted something of me in there.
We chose our names with movie credit (our daughter's name) and if a boy he was going to be named after a Bachelor contestant
When I saw your sons name I almost died because we were gonna name DS Logan (just cuz it was all we agreed on,but H said it'll be too popular) Robert (for both of our fathers names), so we almost had sons with exact same name.
But we switched gears, sometime before we found out sex of baby I guess I told H he could name LO if it was a boy,& it was a boy! He looked online starting with "A" & came across Acelin that he liked cuz it was German & H is 1/2 german. We got middle name Hawk for the Chicago Blackhawks(Stanley Cup winners! sealed the deal for that name) I'm still trying to get used to DSs name,I hate the "LIN" makes it sound girly. But we call him Ace for short.
HA! That's funny; would have been a total small world moment, hey?
FWIW, I love your DS's name; SO original and I Just love the sound of it.
Thank-You!
We went through a book of names and each wrote down names we liked. In the end we didn't end up using any of the names. DH one day said I really like the name Aubrey. So we went with it. Her middle name is my paternal grandmothers middle name Jean.
DH was stuck on Madison Lee...and I'm just not one for a completely trendy name. I wanted something normal, yet not too common. I was set on Natasha. So the day we were getting discharged he said we could go with Natasha and I said that I would love Lee as the middle name. He said he didn't want to have it be Lee, but Li...and I asked him how he was planning on spelling it if we went with Madison and he said Lee, so that's what I put down on the papers. Plus Lee is my Grandma's middle name and it has gone through the family...so I really wanted it to be Lee.
Early on in the pregnancy we were actually going to go with Stormy Lee, but received many, many, many negative responses for that one.
I've always loved the nickname Betsy, so it was on our list from the get-go. At an u/s at 15w, we found out her gender and she also seemed to show her personality a bit--she was incredibly active--kicking, doing summersaults, etc. We decided that Betsy fit her personality. I knew I wanted an "E" middle name because I loved how her monogram would look with those initials. We considered Elizabeth Eleanor, but we liked the look and sound of Elizabeth Everett a little better. Everett is my DH's middle name and my MIL's maiden name.
And her name is 100% perfect for her. She is such a Betsy!
I always liked the name Caleb, but DH wasn't sure about it for sometime. Then, while I was pregnant, I brought it up again and he agreed to go with it - we just needed to find a middle name. DH came up with Martin, and it just stuck.
Our girl's name - we both like the name Megan, and I thought we could go with Elizabeth to honor my grandmother, who I'm very close with/share a birthday with, for the middle name. So, that's what we'll do if we have a girl next time around.
He's named after DH: Pettus Hart IV
Yeah, he's #4. We had a big debate over what to actually call him. DH wanted to call him Ivy (as in the Roman numeral) and I vetoed it
I wanted to call him Dru (as in quadruple) and DH vetoed it.
So I suggested going with his middle name, Hart. It's grown on us and we love the name now
Olivia was a name I loved from when I was in college doing a practicum at a day care center. There was the most adorable little girl with the curliest brown hair named Olivia. When DH and I started talking about kids/names he also liked the named. Unfortunately, it became a little popular but it was "our girl name". Her middle name is Rose and this was my cousins last name. She died in a car accident when we were teens.
Abigail was tough...we couldn't decide on a name if she was a girl. We had a list that we liked. Finally narrowed it down to Abigail and Francesca. Baby was born a girl! We named her Francesca...for about an hour. I then looked at her and said "she is NOT a Francesca, she's our Abigail". Her middle name is Josephine, named after my grandmother (my MN is Jo).
Our girls name was Elizabeth b/c it was grandmother's name (who passed right before I had DS1), she and I shared a birthday also!!
DS1 is Vincent after DH's grandfather. He told me he wanted this when we were dating. I liked the name well enough, so I didn't argue. I can't imagine him being anything else now. His middle name is Daniel after my dad and brother.
For DS2, I suggested Owen one day and DH said he liked it. It turns out Owen was my great-grandfather's name on my mom's side. So, it was in keeping with our family name theme. His middle name is David after DH and FIL.
