Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

What is your average utility bill?

I'm paying bills right now and it just occurred to me that our gas/electric seems pretty high.  Our bill for half of July and half of August is $214.46.  I would expect to pay that in the winter months, but that seems like a lot for summer. ....maybe because I'm home all day and the A/C is always on???  Anyway, just curious if this high or average?  (our house is about 1800 sf)

Re: What is your average utility bill?

  • For 1800 sf?  That is pretty good.  I would assume it would get high if you leave your ac on all the time (in the summer) and in the winter if you try to make it too warm.

Does your utility co do averaged monthly payments? That way you know what your bill will be every month :)

  • We have just under 1800 sq ft and we average $100 a month year-round. We have central air and oil heat and keep the thermostat at 74.

  • Yes that's high. Ours is 40 dollars a month. You are killing mother earth because you need a/c.
  • 60 dollars- However, we live in 1,000 square feet at the moment!

  • We have gas heat, water, and dryer.  Our home is 2400 sq ft, but it's nicely shaded.  Our a/c is set to 80 during the day and doesn't hit that until late afternoon.

That said our electric was $106 and our gas was $32.

  • We are 100% electric.  We have a small home and the AC has been running all the time lately (very high temps outside).  Ours is usually $130.00 - but lately it's around $175.00.  I would say yours isn't bad.  My parents last bill was around $260.00!

ours is about the same, but im a SAHM and pregnant, so I am hot no matter what, so our AC is at 73-75 all day. The summer months its in the range of $180-$210. But then again Im in south Texas. Our house size is the same as yours.

  • Our electric bill this summer hasn't been over $200. We keep the ac on 70 and our house is over 3500 sq ft. If we didn't have a certified green home, it'd be a lot more.

Do you have Xcel?  If you do, they started new tiered pricing this summer (I think for June-Sept).  It doesn't take much electricity usage to get into the higher tiers, especially if you use your A/C all the time.  Our house is 1900 sf and our bill was just $201 for gas and electric and we have our A/C on all day.  We do have a programmable thermostat, though, so the house stays pretty warm when we aren't home during the day.

  • My electric bill is all over the place.  Winter mths - around $50, summer mths - around $110.  We have 2 window unit AC.  We heat our house with oil (about $1500 a year) and the dryer, hot water heater and stove are gas (about $500 a year).  Our house is around 2200sq ft.

  • Our home is 1600 sq. ft. our electric bill last month was $275, it normally is around $150 but they estimated the bill last month and we had a very hot July this year.
  • You mean like power bill?  Right now in the heat of summer it is $290.00 a month for a 2300 square feet house.  It's so hot here in the summer though that is why it's so much.  As far as water goes it's usually $40 a month.
