I'm paying bills right now and it just occurred to me that our gas/electric seems pretty high. Our bill for half of July and half of August is $214.46. I would expect to pay that in the winter months, but that seems like a lot for summer. ....maybe because I'm home all day and the A/C is always on??? Anyway, just curious if this high or average? (our house is about 1800 sf)
Re: What is your average utility bill?
For 1800 sf? That is pretty good. I would assume it would get high if you leave your ac on all the time (in the summer) and in the winter if you try to make it too warm.
Does your utility co do averaged monthly payments? That way you know what your bill will be every month
We have gas heat, water, and dryer. Our home is 2400 sq ft, but it's nicely shaded. Our a/c is set to 80 during the day and doesn't hit that until late afternoon.
That said our electric was $106 and our gas was $32.
ours is about the same, but im a SAHM and pregnant, so I am hot no matter what, so our AC is at 73-75 all day. The summer months its in the range of $180-$210. But then again Im in south Texas. Our house size is the same as yours.
Do you have Xcel? If you do, they started new tiered pricing this summer (I think for June-Sept). It doesn't take much electricity usage to get into the higher tiers, especially if you use your A/C all the time. Our house is 1900 sf and our bill was just $201 for gas and electric and we have our A/C on all day. We do have a programmable thermostat, though, so the house stays pretty warm when we aren't home during the day.
