Heck yeah a 2 yo can LOOK trashy (I'm not saying the kid IS trashy, at that age, it's not their fault how they're dressed). Ever shop at Walmart??

Aren't there things that you wouldn't dress your girls in b/c they look trashy? Like, I can guarantee my DD won't ever wear a shirt that says "100% BRAT" or something with Taz emblazoned on the front. To each their own, but yeah, I think certain things look trashy on kids.

Um, I shop at Walmart. My point was, that there are some questionable clothing items there.

And obviously, my point was not the ruffles on the suit. I love ruffles, I love pink. It's the triangle top that I think is a bit much.

Trashy is trashy. I think you're getting me confused with every other poster here. I'm not talking about sexualizing, modesty, etc... I'm talking about what in my opinion looks less than classy. Not sure how that makes me a nutcase? Because I have an opinion? (Much like you always do?)

I don't know how anyone here can look at the pictures of the little girls in this thread that are wearing a bikini and think they look trashy!!! They are adorable. If you truly think that way, maybe you are jealous of how cute they are.

Babies in bikinis that really look like bikinis (i.e. triangle tops) is a little too "toddlers & tiaras" for me...but I am a big fan of the tasteful tankinis and even the cutesy two pieces out there...

I have to agree. I don't like bikinis on babies. To me bikinis is an older girl/young woman thing, not a baby thing. Just not appropriate to me. Yes, some are more tasteful than others. I do like tankinis and would consider that, but the itsy bitsy triangle ones? Nope. I wouldn't even wear those growing up, so no way am I putting my kid in one.

this isn't about what the bikini doesn't cover - it's about what the bikini DOES cover. a bikini is a sexualized object. the symbolic covering of a baby's "breasts" sexualizes her as well.

it's not about thinking a child "looks sexy" or that others may respond sexually to her. that's ridiculous, and i agree with previous posters that in that sense, it doesn't matter what she wears - or doesn't wear... it's the fact that the bikini ITSELF suggests this, especially if it's designed to only cover the area that would be private on a grown women.

i just don't see the point in dressing children in clothing that we categorize as "sexy" for grown women.

i'm in favor of dressing my children in clothing that would be the MOST COMFORTABLE for them. in other words - clothing that won't ride up or slip down or have lots of strings, buckles, or other items that need adjusting.

Sorry you consider me bitchy because I don't agree with you. All I said was I thought it was crazy to call bikinis trashy & I joked around about people being jealous. I don't see how any of that is bitchy. Get a grip. I'm not the one calling toddlers trashy.

I think there are tasteful bikinis for toddlers and adults. I don't think all bikinis are sexy and I have never considered a bikini a sexual object. I guess were all raised different.

I think they can look cute when they aren't the uber skimpy top/triangle top kind. Not because they are sexualized, just because there's nothing to cover up which is the whole point of the top.

I think the ones that are more like a half-tank with the ruffles and such or no top at all.

Brooke totally took off butt naked at the pool today in the middle of changing, lol. We will totally have plain ole swim diaper days in the backyard this summer. I do love her bathing suits though.

I do agree with AW that they are really useless in a sense but they come as two pieces... might as well use them both!

ITA with all of this. It's weird to think it's sexual wtf? DD crapped in her swim suit a couple months ago because she couldn't get it off fast enough, I ended up bringing a two piece with us and the next time she needed to poop she had no problem getting the bottoms off.
