Re: WDYT about global warming?
This.
I think it's Al Gore's fault, actually.
All of the above.

I actually agree w/ you. It's all about money. When the professors from that school made the "discovery," they started getting a lot of grant money for research. Then, when they realized it was a false reading, they couldn't just tell the whole world that especially since it became such a phenomenon and especially since the school would lose all that govt. funding.

This being the EF board, I kind of feel like a puppet being asked to dance, but...
I prefer the term climate change, it sucks, we're speeding it up with unnecessary excess and unsustainable lifestyle choices, and I feel like we (as a nation and even global community) need to take drastic steps to try and limit the damage that decades of pollution has caused our world and atmosphere. I'm not an expert on what is causing it, but I'd venture to say unclean sources of energy, production and transportation are probably the top factors.
So, OP - what do YOU think??
It's not your fault she missed the sarcasm. Nor, apparently, the intellegence and research that has gone into the subject.
Never heard that one. I'm pretty sure that research that has been done since then has confirmed the phenomena of climate change. Where's pixy??
Can I respectfully ask what brought you over here to ask this oh so non-controversial question?
You're a friggen idiot who apparently gets all your research from email forwards.
Thousands of scientists all over the world are finding evidence of global climate change in all fields of science. Entomologists, marine/freshwater biologists, soil biologists, climatologists, etc. are all finding evidence of a changing global weather pattern. I've read many a scientific report that includes this data as a side note that *something* is happening to the climate.
Oh, but yeah it all comes out of one institution.
Geeze, I post everything after the fact today....
Yes. Yes. Outside of normal temperatures changes, us.

Let's look at it the opposite way - do you think you're helping the world by using disposable items? Do you think there are no negative consequences to the average American producing 1.6k lbs of trash per year? Even in the most basic sense of space, we can't keep that up forever. It has to go somewhere, and we only have so many somewheres for it to go.
Your "opinion" isn't even based in a shred of truth, though. If we were talking about "what should I have for dinner" (although, in light of the c&p I probably wouldn't be asking you), then I may value your opinion. Respecting your opinion on something you have very little background in and/or knowledge? No, I'm sorry, it doesn't happen that way.
Plus the fact that that trash has fecal matter in it that isn't getting processed and is leaching into our ground table water and finding it's way into our sources of drinking water. Poop in a cup, anyone?
I love an ice cold fecal coliform. Very refreshing.

I don't think anyone here would say that CD's are the way to save the planet. I also think if I lived in some place like Phoenix, I'd have to rethink my stance on CDing as there is a general lack of water. Then something like gDiapers would appeal more.
However, babies do produce 2 tons of solid waste during their time in diapers. Raw sewerage is a public health hazard. Whats in diapers goes into the soil and eventually our drinking water. There really is no 'away' to throw things.
Disposable diapers are the largest most common thing that is no recycleable in American trash and it takes about a billion trees (literally) each year to make diapers.
Disclaimer: I don't have kids, when I do I plan to cloth diaper and I study environmental science. And I love the EFFers for the lack of drama and that everyone here finds their own way to work out EF values.
Fair enough - God will destroy the Earth. But don't you think we could make what we have left of it pretty dang miserable with our own actions before he does that?
Then why even question anything if it's all "God's will" anyway? What's the point of this discussion if it's all left up to God?

God has also allowed us to wage war, pollute the earth with nuclear waste, destroy our air quality with coal burning power plants and industry, allowed millions to die of famine, etc. Do you think he's going to stop something as piddling as the warming of our climate?
Have you thought that *maybe* this is how God will destroy the Earth? By allowing us to pollute it to the point where no life can be sustained?
Like I said, just interested in opinions.

Nah, you're interested in being a PITA. You need a hobby.
I believe this as well. One of the first things God said to people was to be a good steward fot eh place He's given us. It's up to us to make our choices and enjoy or suffer through them, same and all our choices.
I actually did think about this possibility but the Bible says He will destroy the Earth with fire. But, who knows? I just go by what the Bible tells me. And it seems that everything happening (everything you mentioned) is only evidence of His coming.

Fire... global warming... heat... destruction... Yup, I say that's pretty close.
Absolutely agree!

THIS!!!!!!
In my opinion, I think that you are taking the easy way out with believing this. By not believing that humans are causing global warming, you are in essence saying that you do not believe that you have an obligation to this Earth and its people to better it.
I call it laziness and pure ignorance. I do believe in God, and I believe that he created this Earth and will one day destroy it. However, I also believe that he called us to be stewards of this planet that was once far more beautiful than it is now. He wants us to take care of his creation. Filling cities with smog and pollution and our water supply with fecal matter, chemicals, and poison is not taking care of His creation. Destroying large forests and mountain areas, littering, not recycling, etc. is not taking care of His creation.
It is like a slap to the face to God to say that we have no personal responsibility to take care of His gift to us. It is our responsibility to take care of our Earth and to make sure that we leave it in a way so that our children and our grandchildren and so on can live and prosper for as long as this planet exists.
Right on, Pixy!!!
I believe that God is in control too, but that doesn't negate the effects that humans have on the earth. Actions have consequences. And as someone else said, have you ever considered that God may use human actions to destroy the planet? No offense, but you have made some statements here that are not very well thought out. You might do better to read some factual material on the subject before engaging in a discussion.
I agree with everything you said. I just don't believe that global warming exists.

You don't believe it exists at all? Or you don't believe we're contributing to it?
Imagine my head slamming into a desk right now.
HUMANS created this mess. Melting ice caps, animal extinction, dwindling water supply, tsunamis, pollution, overfilling landfills, an island created solely out of TRASH. WE did this. It is a direct result of the selfishness and carelessness of humans.
God didn't do this. He gave us free will. And with that free will, humans created climate change.
One day, the newest version of the bible will read "and humans begat climate change..."
