I would actually like to hear what you have to say. Though, I don't necessarily need to hear it here :)

I think it's really interesting. I think it has a really specific context. I think that, like every other aspect of any religion, it can and has been used to support some horrible things that people do to each other.

And when it enters discussions of global climate change, I think it's an absolute cop-out that allows many people to be some ugly combinations of lazy, willfully ignorant, self-righteous, ostriches.

    That's the board-friendly version :)

Come on, Bug!  I've only been reading this far to see what your theological background brings to the table!  But like PP, I'd settle for it another time.

In that case, I agree with you 100%. My DH's uncle is very similar to Jiffy, and it bugs me to no end. I think you are right that the context of this kind of interpretation is incredibly important.

My belief that global warming due to human waste doesn't exist is mainly based on my belief that the only one who will destroy the earth is God. The Earth goes through climate cycles. I also believe in being a good steward of the environment. That is what what God has put us in charge of. I want to take good care of the Earth and it's inhabitants, but humans are not causing global warming.

In my opinion, I think that you are taking the easy way out with believing this. By not believing that humans are causing global warming, you are in essence saying that you do not believe that you have an obligation to this Earth and its people to better it.

I call it laziness and pure ignorance. I do believe in God, and I believe that he created this Earth and will one day destroy it. However, I also believe that he called us to be stewards of this planet that was once far more beautiful than it is now. He wants us to take care of his creation. Filling cities with smog and pollution and our water supply with fecal matter, chemicals, and poison is not taking care of His creation. Destroying large forests and mountain areas, littering, not recycling, etc. is not taking care of His creation.

It is like a slap to the face to God to say that we have no personal responsibility to take care of His gift to us. It is our responsibility to take care of our Earth and to make sure that we leave it in a way so that our children and our grandchildren and so on can live and prosper for as long as this planet exists.

I feel exactly the same way. But you expressed it much more eloquently than I would have!
