Question about accuracy of gender @ 14 wks?

I just had my NT scan this morning and while the tech said it was too early to be certain, based on her experience she thought the baby was a girl. (Sooo excited!!).  I'm just curious if anyone else has experience with early gender detection and if they ended up having the gender they were told in the early u/s.

  • The tech guessed girl at our NT scan (11w4d) but the doctor came in and guessed boy. We found out last night it's a girl (couldn't see it well, so we'll confirm it at our big u/s in 2 weeks).

  • The u/s tech predicted boy at our NT scan and we found out last week that she was right!  I definitely wouldn't go shopping until you can get confirmation!

  • I friend of my had a well-experienced tech "guess" at 14 weeks - and she was right (I guess it's a 50/50 chance, though).
  • I had my NT Scan at 12 weeks. At the time the tech said she would just be guessing if she told us.

  • babies at that age look very similar.  I would say it is still a 50/50 shot.
  • The doctor told us 80% boy at our 13 week NT scan.  It was confirmed last week at our big ultrasound that he is all boy!
  • My OB said at 14 wks he was 90% sure it was a boy because he thought he could see something 'down there'.  Sure enough we saw clear boy parts at the 20 wk big scan.

  • We were told to focus on girl names at 12 weeks by the tech, who states she is "never wrong".  And she was right...confirmed at 20 weeks.  Dr. said it's an 80% chance they will be right.  They can tell by the tilt of the pelvis apparently.  I just tried not to get too stuck into one gender vs. the other, because if they're wrong you might be shocked! lol
    BFP #4 11/21/12 - EDD 8/2/12 BFP#3 Missed m/c 9 wk 3 days. D & c 4/27/12. :( BFP #2 8/10/09 - DD Born April 2010 BFP #1 Suspected Ectopic 4/09 - Methotrexate
  • This may be a dumb question but what is a NT scan?
  • for DD#1. .  dr said girl at U/S and it was confirmed at later U/S .  this one . . baby wasn't in good position, so the dr couldn't even guess . .
  • They told us boy at 13 weeks but gave us the same disclaimer. It's been confirmed twice since then. From articles I've read, if you have a good tech it's around 80% accurate around that time.

  • my tech said she was pretty sure it was a  boy at my 12 week 5 day scan (although baby was measuring 13 wks 3 days)....

found out boy for sure at 18 weeks!

  • I had an u/s at 12 and a half weeks and there was no way to tell at that point what the sex was? I'm curious to know what these tech's are basing this on  as you are technically not supposed to be able to see the "parts" until at least 15 weeks?

They don't actually have exposed genitals yet, but they can tell by the angle of how the genitals are growing. If it's parallel with the baby it's usually a girl and if it's angled up it's usually a boy. It thought this article was interesting https://www.baby2see.com/gender/study_ultrasound.html.
