3rd Trimester

How many times a day does your baby have hiccups?

I feel like I once read somewhere that if a baby has hiccups more than x times per day that you should call your Dr., but I cant remember how many times or where I saw that info.  It is only 9am and he has already had them twice today.

I feel like this is such a silly question...

  • Twice, on average. I do NOT like the hiccups.

  • interesting..never heard that. my first son had them ALL THE TIME! this one only gets them a few times a week. They say it is a good sign though b/c the baby is practicing breathing and swallowing.

  • There were times in the middle of the night when LO had hiccups twice.  Then again when I had my decaf in the morning.  She had them a lot.....I never heard that they were bad.  I heard that they don't bother the baby at all.

  • Anywhere from 1 to 5 times per day. I tried looking up if it's bad for them to have them more than a certain amount of times per day and I couldn't find anything that said it was a problem.
  • Between 3 and 4 times per day, and they usually last between 20 and 45 minutes.

  • Mine has them a lot! Some days I've noticed at least four times during the day.

  • Oh-- I found it-- WTEWYE-- Under the section about "Knots and Tangles in the Cord" (page 521)-- "Another possible sign is frequent hiccups at 36-40 weeks-- two to four episodes every twenty-four hours, each lasting more than ten minutes."

Ugh...I hate having so many things to be worried about.

I am not a big fan of hiccups either. I like feeling him, but the hiccups feel so weird to me.

  • I haven't felt hiccups yet though I don't think that having too many hiccups is a problem.  I remember reading that hiccups don't bother babies at all.  Babies don't get annoyed by them.

  • I am going to ask at my appt on Monday; mine little guy has them all the time, much more than my other two kids ever did...

  • This little guy has hiccups all the time.  DD#1 had them too, DD#2, not so much (and DD#2 was my easier baby, so I'm guessing this one is going to be a challenge like DD#1).
  • Earlier in my pregnancy he used to get them about 3-4x/day, but that has since decreased to about 1x/day.  I asked the doc about it when he was getting them more frequently, but he told me not to worry.

  • I'm not sure...a few times per day.  Mostly after I eat and the middle of the night.
  • He gets them about 2x per day. I asked my doc and she said its good. Stressed out babies don't hiccup so its a good sign.

  • I haven't felt my LO have the hiccups at all yet.  Is that weird?
  • I get them 1-4 times per day, and they last about 2-5 minutes.  I started feeling them at around 22 weeks, but I wasn't sure if they were hiccups or not.  Now, they're a lot stronger!

  • LO probably gets them about 4 times a day, give or take...it may actually be more!  I mentioned to the doc, saying I realize that it's normal for them to hiccup, but is there a point where it's too much? He said not to worry and that it's completely normal.
