I am just wondering how many bases I should get for my infant seat. ?I am planning being home for 4-5 months after LO is born & after that my mother will watch the baby. ?Would I be better off just getting her a car seat that goes from 5+ lbs rather than another base for my infant carrier? ?I feel like my friends babies all move out of the carrier well before a year b/c they get sick of carrying it around. ?
ps-my LO is measuring pretty big so I don't *plan* on a really small baby?
Re: How long is/was your infant in an infant seat?
DD is just moving out of hers at 8 months and I think she's a little bigger than average, but not huge.
My mom got an infant car seat - but she's only used it a handful of times - seriously maybe 10 times total. In retrospect, the smartest thing would have been for me to buy an infant seat and then a regular convertible seat for her car since DD is in it so rarely.
We went to a convertible seat at exactly 6 months, but I think we pushed it a little longer than we should have. DS is 99th% on weight and height, though, if that makes a difference. His carrier became extremely heavy for me to carry at 4 months. I always used the stroller or a shopping cart if I had to carry it for more than a few minutes.
ETA: We had a Graco Snugride and you can also strap the infant seat into a car without the base as long as there is a center lap belt in your mom's car. It's really not that difficult - just not something you would want to do on an every day basis. We did it with my mom's car several times.
