Baby boys: Swollen Kidneys?

A week after my big u/s, they called me and said that our baby boy's kidneys were a little swollen. They want to have another u/s at 28 weeks, which will be at the end of this month.

?Have any of you been told this? if so, what came of it?

My DH had urinary problems as a baby and I thought this could have something to do with that..by reading online I diagnosed it as hydronephrosis, but it could turn out that his kidneys measure normal at the end of this month.?

I was really worried of course when I first got the call, but I'm a little more relieved now that I know that it could be treatable if worse comes to worse.

?I'd love to hear your thoughts!

TIA!?

  • My close friend is 33 weeks and was told at her 20 week u/s that her baby girl had extra fluid around her kidneys and that it would probably resolve itself.  She had a couple of extra u/s and everything seems to be fine now.  I hope this is the case for you too!

  • I just got a call yesterday from my OB, who told me that the anatomy u/s showed pelvicaliceal dilatation and I have to go to a follow-up u/s at 30 weeks.  When I posted on here, someone told me that their DC had had the same issues.  They did monitoring u/s on her every two weeks and after her DC was born, he had no problems.
  •  I do level II sono's and we see this all the time, dilated renal pelvies....its very common in boys and as long as they saw his bladder and his fluid looked normal, Im sure they arent very concerned, but they just like to follow these things to be sure.  Usually it is normal by the time the patient comes back :)  Best wishes and dont worry
