Babies: 9 - 12 Months

when did DC begin to crawl?

My son is going to be 6 months in a couple of weeks and is beginning to sit unassisted for longer periods of time.  I'm worried that he won't want to crawl though because he is content on his back he can roll over onto his stomach but he he perfectly content being on his back or sitting.  Oh and he loves to stand up.  Should we be putting him on his stomach more?

Re: when did DC begin to crawl?

  • 10.5 months he started crawling. I dont think i would be concerned with a 6month old not crawling yet.  Some babies never crawl and go straight to walking.  Each baby does it at their own pace.  My pedi said due to our sons size he might just skip crawling but he didnt.  Hes in the 100 percentile and height and 97 for weight its alot to move around.  I wouldnt worry.

  • DD was sitting unassisted by 4 months, and started crawling at 6 1/2 months.  For the whole month before, she would lay on her tummy, push up on her hands like a seal & scream & cry because she couldn't crawl.  I'd just let him sit if he's content doing that.  Eventually he'll want to grab something he can't reach & start to get motivated.

  •   My DD started crawling a week ago now. So I wouldn't be worried so early!

  • DS crawled forward for the first time at 7 months 2 weeks exactly. Before that he would get really frustrated because he was moving backwards instead of forward, LOL
  • 7 months to the day. FWIW my DD hated tummy time and anything to do with being on her belly. A few weeks ago she started throwing herself on to her stomach any time I sat her down and experimenting with pushing up. It was like a light went off and soon she was moving backwards and then finally forwards.
