My UO is that I think it's silly when atheist celebrate christmas. It would be like me celebrating Hannakuh even though I'm not Jewish.

So because I don't believe in god I should just sit at home on christmas without a tree or lights listening to regular music and telling my kid that christmas is for christians only?

    wow

Christmas is a Christian holiday. It is about God and Jesus not a Christmas tree and presents.

Lol...maybe for you it is? For lots of people it's about a tree and presents and Santa. Just like lots of people go on Easter egg hunts but don't attend Easter Mass, or all the people that celebrate Halloween that aren't celebrating a religious holiday....

We still do a tree and presents! I think almost everyone does, but that isnt what it is really supposed to be about. I dont think its bad that people who dont believe in God celebrate it, I think its funny. Its called CHRISTmas because that what its really about. Thats all I was saying. People celebrate a lot of holidays for the wrong reasons.

You do realize that much of the holiday is based on pagan traditions. And December 25th is actually a pagan holiday. But feel free to shun those of us who celebrate it for the "wrong reasons," such as family, tradition, charity. But carry on with your small mindedness.

A Scottish one at that. Preach it, sister.

There is truly nothing worse than a sanctimonious Christian at Christmas.

Speaking of doing things "wrong" -- you are kind of missing the boat on tolerance and understanding.

    Yup.

I wasn't shuning anyone. I never said their was anything wrong with celebrating it if you aren't religious. I was just always raised as its a day about/for Jesus. I honestly didn't mean to offend anyone. I'm not a very religious person myself and we still do the Christmas traditions. how am I small minded, because that's what I was always told. And I'd like to know how I'm not tolerant and understanding? I want trying to cause drama or anything, sorry

Saying people who don't celebrate exactly as you do, are celebrating for the wrong reasons is small minded, as I see it. I'd consider myself agnostic, but I was raised Christian. So I know the "true meaning" of Christmas...and to me it's about family, blessings and celebration. According to you that is silly...FTR, your comments in no way offends me. I'm just trying to explain to you how it sounds. And it doesn't sound understanding or tolerant. Hence the reaction you received...

Not everyone celebrates it for the wrong reasons. I said most people do, which is true. That in no way means that the ladies in this conversation do.

Right God forbid people stand up for what they believe in, how dare they!
