Yes! After researching for months, I finally broke down and bought a Berkey last summer through Azure Standard. We love it! It sits on the "bar" part of our kitchen counter just behind the sink. That way it's high enough we can fit a glass or bottle under the spigot and we can just use the sink sprayer to stretch up and fill the tank.
The water quality is great and I love that we will be able to use it for decades (it's not gonna end up in a landfill) and even in emergency situations if the electricity goes off etc. I also store water for emergencies (storms, earthqake, what have you) and I feel like if/when we need it, I'll want to filter that water since it's been sitting in plastic containers.
It's also amazingly lightweight when empty and you can invert the top tank into the bottom tank to make it pretty compact. When our little ones are older and we do more camping, I'd definitely consider packing it along.
I also have a Berkey-filtered water bottle that I love. It's nice to be able to fill up your water bottle at any old fountain or faucet (no matter how sketchy) and trust that the filter in your bottle is hard-core enough to get it clean. Water tastes great from it too. I think I might give some out as Christmas gifts this year.
I think you'll really like it. Hope that helps relieve your sticker shock. )
