Mine: I know this may not actually be as unpopular as other posts we've seen in the past, but...if I have to get drug tested for my job and get fired if I start pissing dirty, I think welfare recipients (or any type of gov't assistance...unemployment, etc) should have to do the same thing and lose benefits if they can't pass a UA.

In FL, it's been proven only 2% of those receiving welfare failed a drug test. Just sayin'.

I am starting to hate illegal fireworks. I LOVE the ones the city puts on and think it's so magical to watch those but I feel all the illegal ones going on around them take away from the whole show. Plus it feels like a war-zone. And I absolutely can't stand the mortars that people have been setting off for weeks. So.annoying.
My husband and I were driving home from my mom's at 1030 last night and we were really crossing our fingers that our neighborhood was calm and quiet. As soon as we saw one of the illegal fireworks shoot off we both grumbled. Becoming parents has made us such fuddy duddies. Thankfully Aaden was able to go right to sleep - our dogs on the other hand....let's just say, we're a bit tired today.

THIS! I hate illegal fireworks. It's was one of our dogs first time experiencing fireworks and she wouldn't stop barking because they were blasting fireworks right outside our house. Needless to say I didn't sleep at all because after midnight fireworks were still going off.

Oh, I totally hear you on that one. Our dogs go crazy with fireworks and we are far enough away from the official shows that we shouldn't really hear them. But people in our neighborhood started shooting them off in the afternoon and went on until after dark. Our rescue pup is especially jittery and he was anxious all night long. He even threw up a couple of times because of his nerves.
I'm hoping our new neighborhood is quieter. There are lots of police officers living there, so maybe people pay attention to the law a little more. Hopefully!
I don't mind illegal fireworks too much. I do get nervous when H and his not-so-bright friends get their hands on them. Our neighbors have been setting them off for the past couple of days, but they always stop around 10-10:30. Our dog isn't phased either, so it's not too bad. I'm sure my opinion will change when LO gets here.

In Maine fireworks were legalized this past year. I hate it. Last night people were shooting fireworks off in the parking lot next to my apartment building and it was so annoying, especially since I was exhuasted and just wanted to sleep.

They are legal here and it's one of the reasons I have a love/hate relationship with the 4th. We moved into a new place this fall, and found out that our neighbors are firework FIENDS after listening to their fireworks for the last week and finding all kinds of debris in our yard/on our cars. I love fireworks, but come on...2:00am, 2 days before the 4th? STFU.

My unpopular opinion is that I feel that procedures need to be put in place to take away the licenses of elderly drivers when they become unsafe. In the past week in my state there have been three accidents related to elderly drivers that luckily were not as bad as they could have been. In one of them an elderly driver lost control and crashed into a garage, in another instance an elderly driver backed out of the handicap spot in a grocery store parking lot, hit another car, and then drove his car into the entrance of the store, and the the third incident involved an elderly driver going to wrong way down the interstate.

Absolutely. You're not from CT, are you? We had an 81-year old make it 3 miles down the wrong side of the interstate about a week or so ago.
I totally agree with the fireworks sucking major a**. We live in an area where you can get a permit to set them off, and our next-door neighbors have been blowing sh!t up since tuesday night. Dogs have been a wreck, which translates to DH and I not being able to sleep-and we both had to work today. I don't want to be THAT neighbor, but come on! At least shut it down at a decent hour! And ditto to the junk all over our yard and in our pool this morning. Thanks a lot, jerks.
I wish the IRS had more resources to audit more people. I despise people who knowingly cheat on their taxes. I am on my phone so I can't link but there is a lot of research about how good of an ROI more auditors would be. Also, I think parents who cheat on their taxes are awful examples for their children yet probably many of them complain about "welfare moms" (not referencing people in this post, just in general).
I hate it when people say I can't wait to meet my unborn child. I get why they say it but I mean, you're growing him/her, WTF do you mean you can't wait to meet them?

I totally agree with this!!!! they should get tested every 6 months or so once they get to a certain age. It's just like letting a 10 year old drive, they cant see over the stearing wheel and dont know how to work the pedals right. my great grandma drove until she was 93, so not all elderly people should not drive but they definitely need to be checked, and often!

I guess my UO would be I love the fireworks! Even the illegal ones. It might be different next year if LO is scared of them. But I really enjoy watching the fireworks, in fact last night we took our dog to the beach for our nightly walk and people were setting off their own fireworks at the same time a neighboring town was. Our dog loved the fireworks, she watched each and every one and wagged her tail the whole time. I guess we have a weird dog since I know most dogs hate the sound/sight of them.
It makes me SO stabby when people on welfare/food stamps/ Medicaid have 60 inch top of the line flat screen TV's or iPhones or other expensive electronic things that I consider a bonus and I work my ass off to afford. Why can't they spend that money on their damn food instead of the government giving my tax dollars to feed them?

We actually did a debate about this in my Argumentation class in college. (one of my favorite classes) The research is astounding, or it was back then. At that point in time, elderly drivers caused more accidents than teen drivers AND drunk drivers. And an elderly woman crashed her car into the entirely glassed-in front of a local hospital the day before our debate, killing a couple of people who were in the lobby and seriously injuring herself. For the debate, we came up with a plan where elderly drivers were required to take a sight and hearing test once a year and a road test every 3 years. I think something like that should absolutely be implemented.

I agree a million percent. It's not discrimination, it's nature. As one ages, their eye sight and other senses tend to lose their sharpness. I am not sure if liceanses should be taken away, but there should be drivers tests.

I think finances should be kept private. It drives me nuts that DH's parents are so open about theirs and expects DH to be the same way with them. How much money we have or do not have is our business and does not need to be shared with anyone.
Oh I agree with this. ILs have had to loan money to SIL and BIL a few times this past year because BIL lost his job, and MIL has called up DH and told him about it each time. I really feel uncomfortable that she tells DH this all the time. What if one of us loses our job in the future and we have to ask them for money? I don't want the entire family knowing about it!

My UO: I had to attend a wedding last weekend of a friend. She cheated on her husband with a married man. The guy she married cheated on his wife with a married woman. Not each other. They met, got engaged, and got married within the space of 6 months, less than a year after both of them divorced. My friend has two children. I judged her the entire ceremony.
I have no kids yet, but I totally judge parents who let their kids run around restaurants/restaurant patios. Seriously. We were out to dinner the other night and were eating on the patio, and a huge group of adults and their kids had finished eating, and the adults were nursing their margaritas and talking while their 5 small children were running around the patio area. They almost tripped several waiters who were carrying heavy trays, and they were just generally pretty disruptive. I get that you want to go out to dinner with your kids, but I also think people need to accept that you can't necessarily have the same lingering dinners when you are out with kids. It really, really annoyed me.

I completely agree. I was at a restaurant not too long ago and two little girls were climbing on a wrought iron railing that was separating dining areas. The parents were completely oblivious until one of the girls lost her footing halfway up and crashed to the tile floor. Then the dad got mad because the kid was screaming and he couldn't finish his boot of beer. One word, dude: babysitter.
