New UO for today: I hate the way people always throw out "ignorant" or "uneducated" to describe people who do not share their beliefs.
I agree with you. Especially when they fail to explain why they are calling that opinion ignorant or uneducated. The welfare system is part of our system of government and last I checked our system of government still has freedom of speech, and is one that allows for dissenting opinions with out throwing those dissenters into jail. I personally believe that those who are educated among us are aware of this are using their freedom of speech correctly and this thread correctly in expressing their viewpoints. There is nothing uneducated or ignorant about it.
I get frustrated when abuse the system, too, but I can't figure out for the life of me how required birth control would be enforced.... It would be a good idea to make sure people have access to BC.
If it's a man, is there some kind of permanent, non-removable condom I'm not aware of? or are we just going to stab all the women with depo because forcing them to take a pill everyday seems unlikely. Maybe I'm naive about BC and missing an obvious option though.
Eta- sorry for lack of paragraphs, on my iPad.
Not to mention, no one wants to think about how UNGODLY EXPENSIVE it would be to drug test all welfare recipients, or to supply them all with birth control and then monitor it uses.
My OU? The whole "I am so tired of paying for people blah blah blah" come off as extremely bitter and uneducated. I can't imagine carrying around that mindset -- frankly I am quite happy just paying my taxes and living my life without stewing over some free cheese some woman in a much shitter situation than me might get, even if she doesn't deserve it.
that kind of bitter resentment just seems like an exhausting way to live -- always worrying about what someone is getting that you aren't.
We live in a civilized society -- part of that is paying for things you don't want or don't believe in order to keep everything running.
I don't think it's bitter OR uneducated to feel frustrated with a broken system. I don't think it's right that people work their @sses off to pay to put a roof over their family's head and struggle while some receive assistance from the government and completely exploit it. Again, not all people do this but there is a good handful that do and make a bad name for this population. Just because we are annoyed with something doesn't make us uneducated. I know I for one am not uneducated and am frustrated with the system. Additionally, I know for a fact bellre & Aadensmommy are not either, so not too sure where you come up with the 'uneducated' comment??
That's twice today "iadanza" has taken the words right out of my mouth and has put them in a much nicer way then I would.

When it is always harped on in these threads, and this topic has been multiple times often by some of the same posters, it just comes off as bitter, sorry.
Months ago multiple posters explained how this mass corruption everyone seems so concerned about actually isn't true. At some point, when a topic keeps being repeated, even in the face of actual facts, it is just uneducated.
Well, then I fully expect you to call out each and every poster who repeats topics on here (which, by the way happens EVERY DAY). You clearly feel as it is your duty to let us know when we are coming off uneducated...or perhaps we actually are uneducated but fail to realize it until you point it out.
Remembering my angel baby, Ezekiel, 09/03/2011...you will forever be in my heart.

Is the welfare system broken? I think even the most liberal among us would agree that it is. Would it be satisfying to some of us rule-followers to see all sorts of restrictions put in place? Absolutely.
Does that mean those restrictions and limitations are realistic to implement or not a violation of someone's civil liberties? Of course not.
Does it make us feel better to vent and wish we could make changes that made welfare feel more "fair" to us? Absolutely!
Is there anything wrong with that? No. And it doesn't really warrant a knock on the knuckles, either. This is a message board where people vent their unpopular opinions. That, alone, indicates people realize some of what they're spouting isn't necessarily realistic or practical. I think that's OK.
My unpopular opinion is that I feel that procedures need to be put in place to take away the licenses of elderly drivers when they become unsafe. In the past week in my state there have been three accidents related to elderly drivers that luckily were not as bad as they could have been. In one of them an elderly driver lost control and crashed into a garage, in another instance an elderly driver backed out of the handicap spot in a grocery store parking lot, hit another car, and then drove his car into the entrance of the store, and the the third incident involved an elderly driver going to wrong way down the interstate.
Absolutely. You're not from CT, are you? We had an 81-year old make it 3 miles down the wrong side of the interstate about a week or so ago.
My brother was killed in a car accident involving an 82 year old man. I feel VERY strongly about this!! People complain about 16 year olds being terrible drivers and getting provisional drivers license but I think older people are worse!
I am very sorry for your loss. My own strong feelings on this subject come from my grandmother hitting a killing a 7 year old boy. My mother had asked her to give up her license and she refused and the state that she lived in was no help in taking it away. The result, a child died. It kills me to know that my grandmother did this and it can happen to other families because the system is not in place to support well-meaning families who try and prevent such tragedies from occuring.

Oh my gosh! That is so sad! I am sorry you and your family had to go through that. I know it's so hard for the families to step in and say something especially when the person wants to be independent and are stubborn. That's why I think there needs to be more laws or regulations so it's not up to the family. It's not like they have to take their licenses away when they reach a certain age...they should have to take a test every couple years to make sure they are still able to be alert enough to get behind a wheel. Things like this could be prevented if there were.

Just cause people get annoyed with something and say it on here doesn't mean they are sitting around worrying or having it seriously affect their lives on a regular basis. I work HARD and I still live without luxuries that some people on welfare somehow have (iphones, acrylic nails, chanel purses) - do I think it's unfair? DAMN STRAIGHT!!!! Do I let it get me down or whatever? nooooo... it's when other people bring it up that you think about it and go, "effing right, that sucks!"

Don't mind Amy...this is how she is. She also likes to talk crap about this board on other boards, and is generally just combative. You'll notice she only comes around here to look down on us from her high horse...not to actually participate in the board.

Amy do your also feel bad for our husbands and unborn children since we are so bitter and uneducated. I mean God forbid we spread our uneducated seed.
You need a serious reality check if you think being upset about a broken system constitutes us being uneducated.

Well, honestly the only posts that are entertaining the second time around are UO, Confessions, and those that get C&Pd due to general stupidity.
I think you would be surprised how many people who are having babies in October who read this board and aren't regulars. It can definitely be entertaining!
No, I wouldn't be surprised how many people out there think they are better than others and 'above' posting on a BMB because they've "been there, done that"....like you, I'd imagine.
