s/o language

Does your LO have any "made up" words that they use consistently? I know Maddie means what we think she means, because she makes the correct sign and she "named" the sign and used the word several times before we noticed - since it wasn't a word and I thought it was random gibberish.

For example, Maddie signs "write/pencil" and says "nundee" never pen or write or crayon.. Always "nundee"

She also signs "water" and says, "didi", signs "juice' and says "unk", signs wash/bath and says "showbee" (but I kind of think that is a combination of shower and bath)

Other than "showbee" (and the origin of showbee is a guess) we have no idea where she got these "words". Does anyone else's Lo do this?

  • Nobody else, huh? Just my kid.... Maybe that is a conversation to have w/her pedi since it seems "odd". I was hoping it was something most LOs did.

  • Margaux doesn't talk enough to do that... but my Friend Jason has a daughter named Lucy, 2 and a half,  who has a LOT of made up words.  Some are really funny, too.

  • M says "sheeEE" for let's go or I want it. He has a lot of other "words" that I'm pretty clueless about.
  • I am not sure. She says many things in real language (either German or English, depending on what is easier it seems) and then she says things we don't understand. These might well be made up words, who knows?

  • Aaron doesn't speak enough for that, really.  I mean I think his vocabulary is age-appropriate for a boy (I hear girls speak more from many sources) but he's not really THAT verbal.  He says things that sound made up to me, but for all I know I just don't know what he's saying.  A lot of "Bee" sounding words when he points at things. No clue why.

  • Ellie had at least one that I remember;  she used to point to ceiling fans or ceiling lights and say "Bwah".  It was totally consistent too, so I know that was her word for it. I think there may have been more than that but I can't for the life of me remember them now.  She does make up songs now - there was one song she made up that she used to sing constantly that went like this:

    "Hee-wah!  Hee-wah!  Hee-wah-wah-waaaaah!"

And she has another song she calls her "nighttime song" which she sings when I'm putting her to bed - I cannot write the syllables because they are too strange sounding for me to figure them out, but they are also totally consistent every time.

She also liked to read to herself and would mutter gibberish while looking at her books.  I figured that must be what I sounded like to her when I am reading to her, LOL.  I always assumed it was normal.
