Baby shower?

ok, so I'm 27 weeks today and was wondering if it was normal for a shower to not have been mentioned by now? I'm starting to get worried that no one will throw me one, which is making my want to go and buy everything myself just in case. Am I being a paranoid freak?

Re: Baby shower?

  • I really don't know the "etiquette" of it all but I would be getting nervous myself for sure or fretting that it was going to be a surprise shower and they'd catch me on a day where instead of doing my fair I was wear my sleeping bra and a hat!

  • No one mentioned one to me until today (except my mom for our family shower) - when a co-worker said, "how's the 11th for your shower here?"

After chatting for a minute (I was confused since she had originally told me she was throwing me a shower and the 11th is a weekday) and turns out she assumed my MIL was throwing me a "friends" shower....so basically you just never know.

I'm still going ahead and getting a few things that I know I absolutely need that aren't on my registry - but basically if by the beginning of Dec if I don't have something I'm buying it myself.

  • Have you had anyone even mention the idea of them throwing you a shower?  Personally, if no one had yet to mention it I would start buying some things myself to help and spread it out.
Well, we're on our way to 3 kids, 3 and under.
Set to welcome the craziness in April 2014!

  • I have no shame so I would be asking my mom what the heck is going on haha not because I feel like I should have one but because I need to be prepared and if I am not going to have any help then I need to plan a little better save up etc, so if I were you I would just ask and tell them you are just wanting to be more prepared, that's all.
  • I agree with all of the above; I am 27 weeks and my sisters have been planning my shower for about 3 weeks now. Mine is on Nov. 6th. Work has kind of mentioned one but they haven't set a date or anything yet. I would start buying, there is a lot to buy.
  • I really don't know if anything is considered normal. I would definitely be stressing if nobody mentioned a shower yet. Lots of ladies have their showers past 35 weeks so you still have some time to go. I personally was too nervous to have my shower so late so we're having it in a couple weeks from now. You've got to get moving girl. If you want a shower maybe you could mention it to your mom?

  • I'm going to start picking things up then.

I have absolutely no expectation of my mom throwing me one, mainly because I'm in a different state. I also don't have much for family or friends here, so better safe than sorry :D

  • None of my family members have mentioned a shower.  I'm assuming I'm not having one since we live about 8 hours drive from home.  I'm holding off on buying stuff unless we find it on sale.  I would start saving money though.  My mom had mentioned that she had sent my cousin a present after she had a baby (it was her third).  I am hoping that since I'm not having a shower that maybe...hopefully some people will send presents after the baby is born.  Or perhaps I'll have a shower after the baby comes??  It is so hard not to know what to do especially when it seems like "everyone" else is having a shower.  A lot of people have also mentioned that there are a lot of good black Friday sales.  So in short, buy things when they're on sale and if it's something you need for the first few months but I'd save a few things that you don't absolutely need or don't need right away just in case people want to buy you things.  You can always pick up things after the baby comes...also don't forget about the completion coupon!  I'm going to buy a lot of stuff using that!

  • I'm sorry that people suck.  I was pretty sure I wasn't having a shower and bought most of what we needed myself.

Now we are having a shower (I think) and there's still plenty that people can buy, but I'm confident that we have what we NEED if LO were to show up tomorrow.

  • I would go ahead and begin purchasing the larger items for sure! Either way if someone throws you one or not, atleast you will be prepared. :)
