Water Alternatives?

I have never been much of a water drinker. I know that I should be drinking lots of water to stay hydrated, but I cant seem to stomach it. I have been craving and drinking a ton of apple juice, but I know that it has a lot of sugar in it.

Does anyone have any suggestions or alternatives to drinking water?

Re: Water Alternatives?

  • Mix the juice with sparkling water...1/3 juice 2/3 water...it's really good.

Also I mix it up with sparkling water and the occasional crystal light.

  • I know it has sucralose in it and they say you should limit artificial sweetners, but I drink the sparkling flavored water from Safeway. That and plain water with fruit in it: limes, lemons, grapefruit, and a few times I've through in some chopped up strawberries or grapes. It sounds odd, but it makes it not as strong as juice but not as bland as water.
  • propel is my fav.  Lemonade.  Water down your apple juice too.
  • funny...my dh has been saying that i drink too much apple juice- but it settles the stomach!  i don't know how good it is , but if i am sick of water, i do gatorade.  i can't stomach the flavored waters and sometimes, any liquid is better than nothing.  good luck!
  • try watering the apple juice down, sort of like you do for a little kid. That way you would still have the taste of the apple juice, but  a lot less sugar and more water.

  • I just bought a bottle of V8Fusion, and it's actually really good!! Not that you'd want to drink 8 glasses of it a day, but it'll give you fruit & veggies too!

I also drink sparkling water with an orange slice squeezed in it. Calms the stomach and is bubbly & refreshing. :)

  • I buy Crystal Light, Snapple or Gatorade powder tubes and put just a little bit in a bottle of water, just to give it some flavor (but not as concentrated as you'd normally make).  I can get about 5 bottles worth out of one tube.

  • I used to never drink water until we got a Culligan system in the office and since it's so cold it makes me want to drink it more. (Cold water also burns unneeded calories) Eating lots of veggies like celery and carrots, or fruits like grapes and watermelon can help you get your water in too.
  • I have always been a HUGE water drinker, but for some reason there was a 2.5 week period when m/s was super intense where I could NOT drink water barely at all. Even the thought made me gag. During that time I drank orange gatorade, sprite or ginger ale w/ real ginger (got it at Whole Foods). I could stomach those 3 things only & for the last 10 days I can drink water again.

  • I think cold water is so much better then the luke tap water. If I get tired of water I squeeze in limes or lemon in the cold fresh water to give it a pick me up. I HATE our tap water here so I buy jugs of water.

  • You need to drink water!  What if you added something to the water like sliced oranges, cucumber, lime or lemon?  Would that make it go down easier.  There is nothing more important than water durring or after pregnancy.  It's so good for you and essential for baby.  There's got to be a way you can get it down.  What if it's super cold?  Does that help?

  • I have this same problem! I just try to keep a few water bottles in the fridge so that I'm not forced to drink luke warm tap water ::gag:: When I go out I order lemon with my ice water. Drinking with a straw helps sometimes too! GL and don't stress, it looks like this is a common problem :)
  • My best friend is a nutritionist and he recommended 1/2 Gatorade and 1/2 sparkling water.  My favorite combo was purple Gatorade and berry flavored sparkling water but you could use whatever combos appeal to you.  Thankfully, my water aversion only lasted 2 weeks or so.
