Re: Question Thread

  • thank you so much for all this information! i’ll use the oils, ice packs, and arnica today since it’s what i have in hand right now. the headaches i feel are always at the top of my head & behind my eyes, i’ve noticed applying pressure in that area with my hands helps instantly but it’s just temporary relief. it also doesn’t help that i’m coming down with a cold and all the sneezing has only made it worse .. God willing the cold subsides soon & i’m able to control the headaches. again, thank you so much!

The muscles that move the eyes connect at the base of the skull in the back. See if your husband would be willing to hold there with one hand and placing the other on the top of your head. He can then apply gentle pressure with both hands and just hold it, the longer the better. Ideally, several minutes.

It's a technique my husband developed for my headaches. And yeah, I agree, the pressure does bring quick, temporary relief. The longer it is held through, the longer the residual relief. Which makes the above technique great for someone to do on you since they'll be able to hold it for a longer period of time.

Little bit random, but try pulling and holding your ear, or both, for a few minutes at a time.
  • yes!! my husband has actually placed his thumbs on my eyes & then with the rest of his hands he holds the back or top of my head and applies pressure. it really helps! when the headaches are really bad i’ll joke & tell him “just dig in your thumbs as far as you can” 😂

the oils really helped yesterday, seriously, i’ll have keep them handy. i hope anyone else going through headaches on this group gets to read through your responses, very helpful.
  • Talk me back from the brink everyone. I’ve really been having a lot of anxiety since the recent news about listeria and all the recalls. So terrified that I’m going to eat something risky, or worse, that I already have. Besides all the well known recs I’m avoiding nearly anything cold, prepackaged or pre cut.  So today, I made some wings for Super Bowl and had out some celery and carrots with it, that I wasn’t eating, but everyone else was. The celery was precut from the grocery store. I washed the veggies anyway before putting them out. Cleaning up, I just mindlessly grabbed a piece of celery and munched away. How risky was this?! How are you all coping with what to eat/what not to eat with listeria being such a scary sneaky foodborne illness for pregnant women?

@michelene19 I hear ya,  the other day I got a Mexican salad and then spent the next 30 minutes stressed out because of cotija cheese on top and the recent outbreak.  I even called the restaurant to find out the brand. That being said,  I am a lot less worried about it than I was with my first pregnancy. I think,  do your best and try not to stress,  chances are very low of contracting it.
  • Thanks so much for your perspective ladies! Oh @lexilougolden tell me about it I would have done the same. But of course it’s fine! The logical, rational me knows I need to calm down. As a FTM I’m still learning how to do that haha.
  • I've had bad headaches also and while Tylenol and coffee did help a lot, another friend with a similar issue said she also takes magnesium when the headaches are coming and that helps. And of course making sure you’re hydrated and blood sugar is stable! Good luck!
  • Anyone feeling flutters from baby?? I'm 13.5 weeks and for the last couple of days I've wondered. It's my favorite part of pregnancy so I'm excited to feel it earlier than with my first.
  • @lexilougolden I swear I am
feeling them too even though google says I’m not lol. Just thinking I’m more sensitive this third time around or something
  • I felt them way earlier with my second (around 13 weeks) than with my first (16-17 weeks). I have definitely felt them earlier this time too - so you could be!
  • How is everyone feeling? Moving into 2nd tri at 15 weeks now, I’m amazed that symptoms really do subside. As a FTM I wasn’t sure if that was made up haha, I had gotten so used to the nausea. For the experienced mamas - how do you get through these weeks before the 20 week ultrasound??? Meaning without symptoms how do you know all is ok with baby? My bump is just barely there, and I feel surprisingly good. I’m grateful but I had actually taken some comfort from feeling crappy in the first tri (crazy as that sounds).
  • @michelene19 you’ll probably start feeling some movement soon! You might mistake it as gas at first, but then it’ll almost feel like fluttered/flips in your belly and will eventually get stronger. I want to say I was about 15 weeks when I started feeling baby. I thought it was gas but my OB said it was baby since he was doing flips in my ultrasound! (I had frequent ultrasounds my first due to some fertility issues)
  • @sph97 oh I am so looking forward to that! I know it will be a comfort 🙂
  • @michelene19 I thought I had felt movement and now I really can't tell (15w). With my first I was 17 weeks.  It is hard! Even at my last appointment I wasn't convinced the baby's heart rate was hers,  I think it was mine (my hr is fast plus I was anxious). This is my last favorite part of pregnancy until I can regularly feel movement. It'll happen soon!
  • Anyone doing the AFP test? I feel like most of that stuff can be seen in the 20 wk ultrasound. I did the NIPT so I have those results as well (for DS, etc).
  • I was working out yesterday riding my bike and I sat down to rest for a min (I was never THAT out of breath I don’t think I even worked up a sweat) and suddenly I got super light headed. I had a hot flash followed by feeling freezing, I started snacking and drinking water and it passed after 10 mins or so but wondering if this is a common thing with pregnancy? I don’t remember this happening with my first but I was not working out exactly.
  • Yes just got the results back from the AFP4 screen and also did the NIPT testing af 10 weeks! I like having the peace of mind.
  • i decided to do it in addition to the scan because it adds an extra level of confidence / info - e.g, if they were to see any markers of neural tube or chromosome defects they’d know they could rule them out since I’d already had the bloodwork done, whereas if I hadn’t they might recommend further testing. At least that’s what my midwife said :)

Any STM+ have experience with early dilation?
I was slightly bleeding and having watery discharge and back cramps, with history of preterm labor they wanted me to come in and monitor. I was a fingertip dilated but my Braxton hicks were all over the place and not uniform so when they slowed they let me go when they confirmed my membranes were intact.

I follow up Wednesday but was told I’m not quite 1cm but close, it has me a bit worried since I went into preterm labor with my son. I walked around 1cm for weeks so I know it could stay this way, but I’m only 20 weeks!

Is my cervix more sensitive with my second child? Anyone have similar experience?
  • No experience but sending all the good vibes
  • That sounds so stressful! Also no personal experience but sending good vibes too. It sounds like you are in good hands and that they will keep a close eye on things.
  • I don't have experience with this either.  Thinking of you!
  • @sph97 i also have a history of preterm labor! i had my firstborn when he was 31 weeks, i arrived at the hospital already at 4cm and in active labor. with my second pregnancy i had weekly transvaginal ultrasounds to measure my cervix & check for dilation. i was also on weekly injections of makena (progesterone) to prevent early labor. i was being closely monitored but the injections were enough to hold him off till he was full term. they did mention that if they had noticed any dilation or changes in my cervix i would get a cerclage put in till it was time for baby to be born. do you think your doctor might consider putting in a cerclage?

for my second pregnancy my doctor did say my cervix might be more sensitive, he didn’t even want me to strain too hard if i had constipation 🤷🏻‍♀️

@littlebabybuster I had my son at 37 weeks but I went into labor at 34 weeks and they were able to stop it!

They checked my cervical length and she said it’s not shortening or funneling so they aren’t concerned with my cervix being slightly dilated since it is my second- she mentioned sometimes your cervix is more sensitive and it’s common to not be “completely closed” 🤷🏼‍♀️

We did discover baby is head down and LOW and she said that 100% is causing extra pressure I feel in my pelvis and explains the pain in my back and possibly triggering some of my BH so as long as they don’t come too often and get stronger I should be fine, just keep an eye on them of course!

  • FTM a little late to the fluttering discussion. How often do people feel movement?
  • I don’t feel it a ton maybe 2-3 times per day. But also found out. I have an anterior placenta so I’m probably the exception and not the rule
  • Also a first time mom and now that I’m just about 21 weeks, I feel him stronger and more often. At least a dozen times a day
  • This is my second pregnancy and it's definitely different. Maybe because I'm 20 lbs heavier this pregnancy? This baby just doesn't move as much.  I feel her maybe a few times a day (19w). I really didn't feel much until a week ago.
  • anyone had diarrhea in their second trimester? I'm 19 weeks and this is my second day with diarrhea

I’ve had it off and on the past couple weeks!
  • This is my third day having it 😭 it is not making me feel the best
  • On and off here too 😫
  • Curious, do you ever have days or parts of days where you don’t feel pregnant at all? I had a hard first trimester and thankfully at 17 weeks I’m feeling so much better all of a sudden I could even jog this week 😂 My bump hasn’t fully popped yet, I still feel it’s mostly bloat. And it’s a strange feeling to sometimes not really ‘feel’ pregnant. That said I’ve definitely felt baby moving this past week or two here and there. Just generally curious if others have felt that odd uncertainty when you feel well
  • Yes! You’re not alone! But then the nausea kicks in or Baby flutters and I remember that pregnancy is real 😅
  • Same here at 21 weeks. The baby's movements help remind me, but other than that I've just felt bloated & tired.
  • @s_eliz8927 definitely when I was 17 weeks! I’m a FTM too and absolutely felt “suspiciously” well for a few weeks time. I’ve learned it’s a good thing and all is ok. Now I just hit 20 weeks and while I was feeling little flips and flutters here and there before, it felt like it literally changed overnight (and during the night!) with baby’s movements last night. Had our anatomy scan yesterday and everything looked great. Let me tell you, baby boy started kicking so strong last night and the movement was constant until I could fall asleep. It’s the first time I’ve felt it so much. Seems like he started lots of strong movement literally out of nowhere. So of course now I’m wondering…is that ok? Why all of a sudden am I feeling much stronger kicks and lots of flips? Experienced mamas help me out, is this also ok? Nighttime dance party like I never felt before?
  • Agree! All of a sudden yesterday she was kicking so hard DH and the kids were able to feel her
