I don’t know if you can call it glowing 😂 but this baby is not sending me through puberty again like my girls did so that’s been nice for my skin 😂
My husband ended up having a 4 day weekend which was so nice. We spent a lot of family time together and relaxed. We are trying to plan a trip up north to WV soon. We are moving back there next spring and we need to start preparing. I’ve loved NC and the coast, but we are mountain people 😂. We are more than ready to be back.
@kiek - Not looking like you're going through puberty again = WIN!!
Not sure I'm glowing either but I'm trying!
There is definitely a reason we park farther away from where the fireworks in our area are held. They're at a large park/pool with food trucks and rides and all. And we decided to actually go to the park last night. Took over an hour to get home.....we live less than 15 minutes from the park. The anxiety I get over traffic on a normal day is ridiculous so this sent me into overdrive!
Also, this child is sitting super low compared to my other kids. He or she is kicking DOWN. Super uncomfortable. And he/she is super active today. DD#2 was like, is the baby hurting you? Didn't want to upset her but I think my facial expressions gave it away. Lol
Y'all. I had my follow-up ultrasound yesterday. The doctor and ultrasound tech are flabbergasted. They had to check in multiple places just to be extra sure, but the absent end-diastolic flow has completely disappeared and the flow is totally forward and normal. They said "That doesn't happen. It stays the same or it gets worse, it generally just does not get better." And I told them, "But God." I've had people all over the world praying for her, and this past week I've just had a peace that passes understanding about it all and I knew that, one way or the other, He's got this.
Baby Evie is still measuring very small. She's gone from 3.9 percentile to <1 percentile over the past 3 weeks. We're keeping a close eye on it -- I go back in 3 weeks for another growth ultrasound. I've been down this road before. DD1 was growth restricted -- she was barely over 5 lbs at birth (4th percentile), I was able to carry her to term (38 weeks) and she only spent 6 days in the NICU -- and today, you'd never know there was ever an issue.
I know we're not totally out of the woods off, but the immediate danger is gone. I'm so relieved. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off of me, and I can finally breathe.
@Kiek I'm a Carolina transplant from WV too! We're in SC, but came here from WV. Most of my extended family lives in the Beckley area, and we lived in Fayetteville before coming to SC. I love it there. There's nothing like the WV mountains in the fall especially.
@UnwritteN12 I can relate to the discomfort of baby kicking down. Not just kicking, I'm pretty sure she's full on tap dancing.
I’m super frustrated. First of all my midwife is aware of all this. I’m having the hardest time with my blood sugar this pregnancy. I need to have protein bars or granola bars in my purse at all times. I have almost passed out 3 or 4 times now while grocery shopping with my kids. Yesterday I was really worried we’d need to call 911 because I wasn’t recovering like I normally do with a snack and a drink. Which is super scary being out with my kids, the 7 year old in a wheel chair and wondering what happens to them if an ambulance comes. My husband and I agreed I can’t really be taking the kids anywhere by myself that requires too much walking at this point.
I am a super independent person. For the first 10 years of our marriage my husband was mostly either deployed or on the road pipefitting/welding. Our oldest was born during a deployment. I moved our kids and dog from PA to NC by myself during the pandemic because my husband couldn’t leave his job out of state due to all the uncertainty back then. If I want to go somewhere or do something, I pack up the kids and I just go lol. To not be able to is so foreign to me and I hate it 🫠🙃
This gestational diabetes stuff is SO hard. They put me on 10 unit of LA insulin at bed time and I’m still waking up in the 100 to the 1-teens. The Libre doesn’t seem very accurate. Libre said I was 58, the finger stick said 81 earlier.
Anyone else’s nipples just down right the you right now? Mine are SO sensitive and painful. I don’t remember this with my first pregnancy. I’ve already switched to maternity/nursing bras for a more forgiving fabric because anything that touches my nipples sends me through the roof.
Also, carpal tunnel? Anyone? My arms (more my dominant, right arm/hand) goes numb and tingly for no reason. I’ll have my arm/wrist/fingers in a neutral position and bam! Tingles, burning, pain…from my elbow to my fingertips.
@medicmomma6115 - For the Libre CGM, make sure you're not taking any additional vitamin C. That can mess with the readings. But yeah, the finger sticks are generally more accurate. Yes to the sore breasts/nipples. It's been way worse this time around than with my others.
I haven't has issues this pregnancy with carpal tunnel. But with my first pregnancy I actually ended up having bilateral carpal tunnel surgery when u was about 30 weeks as they were concerned the nerve damage would only get worse and be permanent. (Also, I was only under local anesthesia because I was pregnant. Awful awful awful!) Braces helped tremendously though! I wore those suckers all the time, including to bed.
@kiek - I'm sorry. That really sucks. I try hard not to be out on my own for too long as my blood sugars aren't predictable during pregnancy. It drops and my vision gets blurry so driving can be an issue. But yes to the snacks on hand!!
@Kiek that stinks. Im sorry you have to deal with that
I had my 20 wk ultrasound today and baby was quite uncooperative with some views so I have to go back in 4 weeks to get the rest (but what they could see looked good so no worries). Baby was also breech (my daughter was also breech). I know it's still way too early to be worried about positioning but I'm getting deja vu!
@makingbacon the only thing we got was a new echo dot lol. We don't usually have prime but got a free month this month.
@fitandnerdy I'm sure its hard having been there before, but try not to stress!! My baby flipped back and forth several times just during the anatomy scan. There really is soo much time left for them to turn head down!
I know there's several 4+ time moms here... this is baby 5 for me and I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around my level of discomfort already. I don't remember feeling this way until third trimester before and overall I LOVE being pregnant so the head game this time are interesting. Anyone else uncomfortable already?! I'm only 21 weeks and some change... yikes!!
@runsoncoffee - Same here. This is also #5 for me. Everything is just different. Even baby's movement is uncomfortable already. Mostly because he or she is kicking down a lot. My back has been hurting for a while now too - a lot sooner than my other pregnancies. I'll be 24 weeks tomorrow. But I attribute a lot of it to the fact that I had 2 in my 20's, 2 in my 30's and I turned 40 right before I found out I was pregnant, so my body is just completely different.
@runsoncoffee this is only my third but I’m short and carry really large. I’m almost 23 weeks and people think I’m full term right now 💀. I’m already bigger this time than my precious pregnancies and I was pretty big with those lol. I’m so uncomfortable! I never experienced round ligament pain with my girls but I’m getting all of it with this boy.
@chrissdee how fantastic!! that was so exciting to read.
@runsoncoffee - this is my third and my previous two were definitely i-love-being-pregnant pregnancies. This one...less so. I already weigh as I did at the end of my previous pregnancies, and I know I look at least 7 months sometimes...despite only being 23w. And just so many "symptoms"
Third kid: Due 11/6 Second kid: Dec 2021 First kid: Sept 2019
@bluepeach565 sake here on the weight thing. Discouraging but what can you do!! @Kiek I get a ton of RLP too! @UnwritteN12 I was thinking the same thing on age being a factor... I'm not 40 but mid 30s and chasing 4 littles 7 and under is exhausting without being pregnant!
You all make me feel not alone in this!! We can do it!
I looked at the countdown to baby part of my baby app this morning. Anyone else a little freaked out about how quickly this time is flying? I’m at the end of the month, so I have a little over 19 weeks left. We still have to find and buy an entire house lol.
@Kiek fellow short large carrier here and this is baby 3 for me too and I am also so much bigger than both other pregnancies! I’m definitely more uncomfortable already than previous pregnancies. Trying to enjoy it bc it’s our last but it’s been a struggle.

@ashsowers2020 eastern panhandle! Morgan County area. So right across from Frederick county VA. I grew up in Warren County and Shenandoah County, VA!
@Kiek I’m in the Frederick county area. I’m right outside the Frederick county border in Clarke county (literally right across the bridge over the Shenandoah that separates Frederick and Clarke). If we get to know each other well enough and feel comfortable with it, maybe we could get together sometime after you move next spring ♥️
Completely not pregnancy related but... I love Discovery+ and will watch/listen to it while I work throughout the day. They just added "My Strange Addiction: Still Addicted?" OMG I don't now that I'll be able to watch all of these because I'm already sick to my stomach over these...eating toilet paper (supposedly 1 ply tastes different from 2 ply?!?!), eating car foam....and I think those are the tame ones!
@UnwritteN12 I don’t get to watch tv very often now, but in grad school I binge watched the celebrity plastic surgery show that I think was on mtv originally. Now when I get the chance, I usually watch the competition cooking shows.
Not so much TV...but lots and lots of youtube videos about pregnancy and babies and toddlers on our tv 😊 24 week appointments today. 49 year old momma and 1lb 10oz baby 'Inca' doing very well. Baby is a little ahead of schedule for weight at this point (65th percentile).
My dear sweet son (3 years old) decided to wake me up this morning by lovingly placing his hand on my cheek and serenading me with the chicken wing song.
It was barely after 5am. I was not ready. Send coffee.
@chrissdee I feel for you, but that made me laugh so hard. My 3 year old also woke me up last night, but that's because he drank way too much water before bed and had to pee lol. "Chicken wing chicken wing"
@makingbacon Glad I could make you laugh! He was at least trying to be sweet so I couldn't get mad. But these kids... I wish I had just a fraction of the energy they have.
Meanwhile, baby E is making me nervous again. I haven't been able to feel her move today. I've had an iced coffee, which normally would have her practicing her karate moves by now, and nothing. I had an early lunch hoping that would kick her into gear... nada. Granted, I'm sitting up at the desk while working from home right now, but I'd normally still be able to feel something. I'm gonna lay down for a little bit and see if she wakes up, and if not-- back to triage for me. I'm really getting tired of the hospital. But it's such a hard balance between figuring out if I'm overreacting or potentially ignoring something dangerous, especially with the issues we're already having. My nerves weren't built for this.
@chrissdee That is so hard. I hope she starts kicking around again. My OB nurses, and the L&D nurses, always told me to show up. They’d much rather see us, and it be nothing, than us show up later, and it be an emergency.
@makingbacon Yeah I think I’m going in. I chugged some cold orange juice and laid down for an hour for a kick count. Only felt 1 distinct kick, and one that I honestly couldn’t be sure was a movement or gas. That’s not nearly enough to make me comfortable.
@chrissdee never an overreaction!! If there’s any concern for movement, always best to go in. And make sure they put you on continuous monitoring. Sounds like you went in, which is great. I hope everything turns out ok. We’re all thinking of you!
Thanks for all the prayers and good thoughts, y'all. I was released last night after an 8/8 biophysical profile and several hours of monitoring her heart rate, which stayed pretty consistently in the 140's. The nurse came running in and said, "They said you can go home-- I'm getting you off the monitor before she can do something silly and make them change their minds." lol it's like they know my kid or something. We still have the intermittent absent end-diastolic flow of course. She apparently had a sleepy day yesterday. (Maybe gearing up for a growth spurt??? Here's hoping! She's still less than 1st percentile.) Today though she's been super active. I swear, this pregnancy has just been an emotional roller coaster.

NC has been good to us. But my husband and I are both from the mountains and we miss it lol. Those are our people lol.
