I wanted a boy first because I always thought having a big brother to "protect" my little girls would be sweet. I also really wanted my MIL to be wrong.
Eta I had a girl. I love her so much but I was slightly disappointed at that time.
I think it’s normal to feel disappointed by the sex of the baby. What has been helpful for me, now 4 boys in a row, is giving myself some time to be sad, and then move on.
Fwiw, I have 1 girl, followed by 3 boys. (And this is a boy as well). There’s a lot of positives. Boys can pee on the side of the road. Hair is easier to manage. They’re easier to clean. My boys are wild but also tender and sweet. They love their mama. They protect their sister. Lots of perks.
So be sad but then move on and get excited about whatever that blessing is. I promise you that when I held my boys, I never once thought, “I wish you were a girl.”
I thought I would be disappointed to have three boys but I agree with all of @and_peggy’s positives and well my boys have a very special bond with their momma. I have cried a few times because I want MH to have that same bond that only comes with the opposite sex but at the end of the day I wanted four beautiful and healthy babies so I will be fine either way. This is probably our last unless we have an accident somehow so I imagine once we know I will mourn one way or the other—either that MH doesn’t get to have a daughter or that I’m not just a boy mom. 😝 I think it’s all just normal.
So since my next doctor's appointment isn't until the 25th (at 16 weeks) and they dont schedule ultrasounds until 18 weeks ay my office. So we were looking at waiting at least 3 more weeks if they could get me in right away...so DH and I decided to schedule a boutique u/s for Tuesday to find out the gender! We can also bring DS and he was beyond excited at the idea of seeing baby. I'm excited to find out so I can connect with baby. I've mentioned before that I think I'll be fine with either gender... DH is hoping for a girl. I think mostly because if we have one of each, a third kid is completely off the table. But if we have a boy, we may try one more time for a girl.
Last Monday I got my blood drawn for the NIPT. My OB called today to let me know I’m Low Risk (my office calls no matter, so I wish I had asked that before.) She said the results are available in my patient portal, so my husband and I get to find out our baby’s gender TONIGHT on Valentine’s Day!! Since we’re telling my family this weekend and husband’s family next, I think I’ll wait to share the gender here till after that. Since our due date is 8/31, I’m not sure if this will help anyone else, but your OB may not just call if it’s bad news, which I was under the impression of. So my morning went from stressful seeing the voicemail, to ecstatic!😅🥰
@meagan822 my doctor's office has only ever called me if it is bad news, so that would have stressed me out too! I'm so glad it was just good news and you get to find out tonight!
@meagan822 the practice I go to always calls for the NIPT, no matter the results. I think they don't want pregnant women to misinterpret results and cause undue stress.
TTC#1 10/2018: MFI (2 SA under 9 million/ml) 11/2018: HSG shows right Fallopian tube slightly damaged 1/2019: Husband diagnosed with grade 3 varicocele 4/05/2019: varicocele repair surgery 6/13/2019: BFP!!! EDD: 2/22/2020 Baby girl born 2/27/2020 7/18/2019: Total Motile Count at 3 months post surgery = 51 millions!! (number must be >20 millions to conceive naturally).
@meagan822 my doctors paperwork said they only call if there’s something concerning so imagine my stress when I saw the nurse’s number pop up on my phone after my initial blood work (not NIPT but like, progesterone, Pap smear, STDs, etc). Luckily she was just calling because she knew how nervous I was and wanted to tell me everything was good but whew that was a scary 30 seconds!
And yay for being low risk and finding out the sex tonight! Great timing!!
@darkrose88 I’d heard that from a few moms as well! I was tapping on the voicemail to listen to it for the third time, when I was actually in recent calls, and it started ringing.😅 It saved me from overthinking any longer.
@rikiteacup That makes so much sense! And I have an OB’s office that communicates super well. That expectation would have been helpful!🤣
@itsme215 Oh my goodness. I understand that panic! I wish they would just say that they’re always gonna call so that it’s clear and straightforward! As soon as I woke up and heard the voicemail, I told my husband I was concerned because I had a missed call from them and we were trying to think of any other blood work it could possibly be. The second I got off the phone, I texted him “Best Case Scenario!” Because I knew he was probably really nervous at work too.
It makes you realize how much attachment you’ve built to the baby, when you think something could be wrong, even for just a minute.😅🥰
@leahrnmom do you have any US tech friends that could help you out? There has to be some kind of benefits to being a front line worker and dealing with COVID for these last few years!
@wigglyicecream no the radiology department is its own entity. I know the ct and mri techs a bit but not ultrasound. In the ICU the critical care Drs do their own bedside ultrasound and then most other times they just order a MRI or CT. I wish I did. I scan myself sometimes with the ICU bedside ultrasound but I can't see anything other than a baby and heart beat.
@wigglyicecream I've been sharing the news with family and friends! You guys are next on my list. I'm going to share an update on the ultrasound thread. 😁
@darkrose88 I don’t think that poll is totally correct… I think there are a few people who voted what they thought or wanted vs what they were actually having. I almost want to make a new one lol
@paytonpedro oh I didn't even think about that lol. I figured we'd just add as we found out. It is annoying we aren't allowed to update our poll responses.
Total random comment - but when I searched for Chinese calendar/lunar calendar predictions, I ended up getting girl. Since it was right, I feel like I'm now a much bigger believer in that sort of thing lol.
Yeah it was meant to be a add as you find out poll but maybe I didn’t convey that well enough 🤷🏼♀️
I use this specific chart and I’m convinced it’s some kind of witchcraft. 🤣 it has been correct for me THREE times now. That’s more than a coincidence!!
It was also right for my sister and 2 friends. It’s so weird!!!
@darkrose88 I totally believe it in more now too. The Mayan prediction was right for both. I’ve heard that for the Chinese gender chart you have to do your lunar age.
@paytonpedro I say do it! Also I still think the gender old wives tale vs what baby is would still make a good GTKY
The Chinese calendar was right for 3 of my pregnancies but it was wrong this time

@paytonpedro I think it is wild the chart was right for all 3 of your kiddos. I actually went back and checked an old Chinese/Lunar calendar, and it was right for DS too lol. I mean, there is a 50/50 chance of it being right so it is sort of surprising when it is right every time.
Both calendars say girl for me, so we will see. I think I'm a total mixed bag when it comes to all the old wives tales though, but I think they lean more girl. I think I lean towards wanting a girl because out of all our friends that have had babies, there are at least 7 boys and one girl one the way, so we need to help even this out. I think he wants a boy first though and then a girl.
@paytonpedro that chart is right for my first 2 boys…. It tells me this baby is a girl though… I did do the sneak peek test…. Did it with 4 male humans, and 5 male animals living with me. It told me boy so we shall see, my ultrasound isn’t till April 4th so I’ll find out then or shortly after 🤣
I definitely would love a GTKY or thread for OWT vrs gender. I’m so excited to share, especially because the OWT leaned about 90% one way. I am excited to share the gender here as soon as our family knows!
I am still in absolute shock. They called with my NIPT results. Everything is good and… It’s a girl!?! 💝
MH couldn’t quite believe it either. He said, “Thank God we don’t have to argue about names anymore.” And then, “This is going to cost me so much more money.” 🤣
@darkrose88 thank you! It feels like a lot of girls this time. I agree with @paytonpedro that maybe we need to do an updated poll that is more accurate. Also, is anyone a resident spreadsheet addict? We had one in my last BMB and she made a spreadsheet with usernames, due dates, gender, etc. it was pretty cool.
@mdfarmchick congratulations! 🎉 I'm 100% a spreadsheet addict. Data analysis is what I do for a living. With that said, idk if I want to volunteer for that. Haha. Maybe revisit the topic if/when when we go private. I'm not sure most people would want all their info collected in one place on a public site.
