On the subject of regularity... I'm usually pretty regular, but these past few days, I've been a little stopped up. But once I go, it doesn't stop! What the heck!? I know my hormones and my prenatal vitamin are involved in this. This is just very frustrating today.
ETA: I guess this should have gone in the venting thread.
Just wondering had anyone had round ligament pain yet? I will be 13 weeks tomorrow, I have a cough (not covid thank goodness the PCR is negative) and last night during a cough I felt this lightning fast pain in my lower stomach near my hip. Google says it could be round ligament pain, although it may be a little early. Has anyone experienced anything like this or am I crazy?
@katiecattherese if I move a specific way I get sharp stretching pains, not quite RLP yet but I know that's just down the road. I had it super bad with baby #2. We'll see how this one goes.
@katiecattherese I’ve been feeling rlp since right around the time I got my bfp- maybe like 5/6 weeks. I don’t remember when I felt it the first time in my first pregnancy, and this is my third so maybe a tad bit early. But, it sounds like it could be rlp. I’ve even had it while not pregnant after my second if I get up too quickly from laying down.
I've been feeling round ligament pain for awhile, mostly due to coughing from covid. Sometimes I get it if I stand up too fast. It has gone away fairly quickly. I'm not looking forward to more of it though, I can tell you that.
I literally woke myself up with RLP the other night. Like I moved weird in my sleep, and REALLY? Third baby doesn't mess around with the symptoms showing up early.
@paytonpedro yes, the rolling. Ever since my first pregnancy I’ve sat up when I wanted to switch sides, and I didn’t know why that started. Now I remember, ouch!
Any suggestions for boosting energy? Tomorrow we are leaving for Universal Studios. The fatigue is kicking my butt so I was just wondering if anyone figured out anything that helps besides the caffeine we aren't allowed to have. lol
@Katek819 You can have 200mg of caffeine a day (equivalent to 12 ounces of coffee), and I recommend caffeine. Tea and pop has less so even inserting 100-150 mg throughout the day will keep you boosted, especially if you've been avoiding it entirely! I also recommend power naps. I don't know when you'll get a chance at Universal Studios, but if you have time between parks and dinner, definitely a 20 minute nap is a good recharge without making you groggy. (Don't nap longer.)
@Katek819 here to echo what @wisewitch222 said!! I drank caffeine all through my second pregnancy. We’re doing Disney in about a month and I plan on caffeine and cat naps. I can’t wait to hear how it goes for you!
@Katek819 I second the above advice about caffeine. I have a pretty strong coffee aversion when I’m pregnant ((which sucks because I LOVE coffee so my brain wants coffee and then I can’t drink it 🙄)) so I suck up the calories/sugar and spread Coke throughout my day for a hit of caffeine. Make sure you drink tons of water while you are there too—you get dehydrated faster while pregnant and sometimes don’t realize it.
Anyone else SWEAR they feel little swirling or something in your tummy. every once in awhile I feel like a swish. I know it's unlikely to feel baby at 10 weeks. on our ultrasound its tiny legs were kicking away!
@Katek819 yep. I know it’s not baby, but I think between the hyper awareness we have of our bodies during pregnancy and the fact that by 10 weeks or so your uterus has grown so much already and is starting to press on other organs, we just feel more things.
A few people at my job have covid, a girl at the ob's office was hacking up a storm yesterday while I was there. Today my head is killing me, I've slept a good bit, but my temp is hanging in the 99.7 range. I took 1 extra strength tylenol not realizing I could have taken 2. Just so worried I'm going to have a birth defect or worse lose this 6th rainbow babe. Any tips or words of wisdom would be great.
@jessieleesbg I would take a rapid test and call your doctor, they typically like to know when you have a fever. Your doctor will know what to do it it’s positive; I don’t know that there’s a ton that can be done but luckily 99 is pretty low. My OB told me that with omicron they haven’t seen as many serious side effects for pregnant women, but I know it’s still scary. I hope you feel better soon!
@jessieleesbg sending hugs. I think many of us have had Covid during pregnancy (myself included about 3 weeks ago). In general, and technically speaking, I believe your body temp has to be 100.4 to qualify as a fever. The problem with fevers is when you can’t reduce them; so if you’re hanging out at 101-102 for several days, that is concerning. Not to trivialize your symptoms, but 99.7, you’re probably okay. I don’t think a low grade fever for a day or 2 is going to cause birth defects. But, please call your provider, especially if you are worried.
I hovered around 100 for about 24 hours with Covid and then it went away. Obviously it was worrisome but I also know there’s pretty much nothing I can do to change the outcome regardless.
Drink lots of water, rest, and keep up with that Tylenol. Feel better 💞
Is the NIFT (?) lab tests peeps are talking about in the standard first trimester screenings they do? I have a big list of what they are testing for but I didn't learn the gender of my son until 18 weeks.
@Katek819 I think you may be referring to the NIPT? It stands for Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing. The test takes vials of the mom’s blood (the amount of vials depends on which NIPT test the OB uses.) It’s a blood test that checks the baby’s chromosomes. The mother’s and baby’s blood is able to be separated at the lab, so the baby’s blood is what the test actually uses. The test can check for 2 things. One is chromosome abnormalities and can check risks or conditions, such as Downs Syndrome (which is when babies have an extra chromosome.) The other is the gender. Boys have xy chromosomes and Girls have xx chromosomes. The NIPT is most commonly done between 10-12 Weeks (with results coming 7-14 days later) and is 99% accurate at predicting the gender. Since the accuracy is so high, comparable to the anatomy scan, it’s often how parents choose to learn the gender, and saves waiting about 8 weeks! My husband and I will get to learn the gender before announcing it to our friends and families, which I’m so excited about!!
Edit: And yes, this usually costs more than what insurance covers depending on risk factor and age. For me, this will likely be $250.
@Katek819 from what I understand the NIPT is not included in the standard bloodwork, and is an optional test. If it's not covered by insurance, it can cost $200-400, maybe more.
When I had my daughter, they were only offering it to mothers who were AMA or willing to pay out of pocket. Now I think it is offered more frequently regardless of age and my OB said there’s a trend to replace the bloodwork traditionally done with a NT scan with the NIPT test, so standard of care for first trimester testing could change from NT test plus associated bloodwork to NT scan plus NIPT bloodwork. Now that I’m “old” it’s covered for me.
Thank you to whomever recommended the snoogle pillow. Mine just arrived today, and I took a nap after school. It was the most comfortable I've been. I can't wait to go to bed, in like 5 minutes. I can't even find the thread where I originally asked about pillows to properly thank you!
Sorry if this has been covered before...Best pregnancy pillow? I see so many options! Full body, bump/leg support, wedges, etc. No clue what works best For right now I just have a long pillow that I put sometimes between my legs or to elevate my legs if I end up on my back.
@bre2022 someone recommended the Leachco Snoogle to me. Last night was my first night with it. I slept like a rock, until my husband woke me up at 4am, asking where his W-2 was (not a dream). It is full body, wraps around, so comfy. It was like a big boppy just for me.
I was wondering if there any plus size people willing to share their experience with ultrasound/Doppler? I have been going to my RE up until now and so only having transvaginal ultrasounds, but I’m going to my regular OB next week. I have a pretty large tummy and I’m just curious if it will be hard to find baby with external devices. I think I’m also getting the NT scan which I assume is an outside ultrasound? Thanks in advance!
@katiecattherese I feel it every once in a while when I sneeze or laugh really hard, and I’m only 10.5 weeks! I looked it up online and it said to “flex your hips before a cough or sneeze” but I don’t really know what that means or how you’re supposed to react to a cough or sneeze early enough to do anything, haha
@pastabilities to flex your hips you just need to bring your knees toward your chest, so just kind of hunch up to cough or sneeze.
As far as the Doppler, they should be able to use it, baby is still just barely above the pubic bone at this stage so for most people it’s below the tummy pooch. My OB used a small handheld ultrasound at one of my appointments and told me it was actually harder to find baby on thin women with that device (I’m not sure why)

@pastabilities I'm plus size, and just 11 weeks and 3 days. Last week, we were able to see both babies on external, after looking at transvaginal US.
As for the flexing your hips, basically just bend over or curl into a ball. It sounds way more complicated than it is. I don't know about the NT scan because I'm a first time mom over here.
@coco2787 and @bridgiebee82 thank you both! The hip flexing makes 100% sense and good to know about the external ultrasounds. I was slightly worried I’d have to have transvaginal ones forever!
So my right breast got suddenly sore again yesterday (they've been fine for a few weeks) and when I touched it, it felt like a sharp hot pain... not unsimilar to the pain when you have a clogged duct. Imagine my surprise when I looked online and read they were common starting second trimester in pregnancy. 😭 I'm on day 2 with the clogged duct (it has not improved) and wondering if anyone has suggestions besides massage and hot showers/compresses? Pumping isn't an option (since no milk yet) and it is not improving using the methods above. Also, anyone know if it is possible to get mastitis while pregnant?? I can call the nurse line but thought I'd ask here first.
@and_peggy I didn't think about calling until this afternoon and they are closed until Monday morning. In the past I'd take a hot shower & massage or use my pump to get rid of the clog... not sure what else to do at this point.
