The app has been sucking so bad for me. It told me that I needed to sign back in, fine, but then every time I did it it never recognized me as being me so I never saw the new post updates. I really wish they would listen to their customer and fix the app. How hard can it be?
ETA: we did a social distancing deck party last night with our neighbors and it was so much fun. We each brought out our own drinks and snacks and listened to music and talked. It was so good for my soul. Seeing new faces compared to the ones in my home and just being outside was great. We plan to do it weekly on the weekends whenever the weather is good. Since I can’t go anywhere, I am now looking forward to this.

@blackgirlmagic That sounds so awesome! I'm glad you had a nice weekend and have an "event" to look forward to every week!
My in-laws came by over the weekend and brought us some traditional food (pierogi and kielbasi) to have for Easter since they went to the market. They also made us an Easter basket with yummies. They only stayed for ~10 mins and we just stood around in our backyard and kept our distance. My brother and his fiance also stopped over this weekend and we stayed in the yard for a few minutes. It was nice to see family, even though we couldn't hug.

DH let me sleep in until his morning meetings started so I didn't roll out of bed until just before 10am. While I was thankful now I'm kind of rushing. I wanted to pump out a load of laundry this morning and ideally I wanted to get mask making going, but he promised he'll pull my stuff when he goes on lunch.
@blackgirlmagic we did a “lunch date” with friends this past weekend. We all grabbed Chick-fil-A and parked in a row. Rolled our windows down and ate in our cars while we we all chatted. The kids loved it and I really needed to see my friends.
@ziggymama06 So jealous of your pierogi!!! I get some to make at my grandparents’ every time I visit them in Cleveland, but there is basically zero Polish community in Oregon, and they never taste good to me when they’ve been frozen, so having them shipped is worthless. Maybe I should be learning how to make them from scratch right now while we’re quarantined...
@viola_mama Aww, sorry to hear you are missing your grandparents' pierogi!! I was going to say there is a place not far from me that will freeze and ship all over the country. If you let them thaw, boil them, then pan fry them in lots of butter it's not too bad (we like to add onions and serve with sour cream). But you are right that nothing beats homemade. I make Gołąbki myself (stuffed cabbage). I tried last year with a close friend's recipe and they came out awesome. Planning to make them again this year. I haven't tried pierogi as I've heard they are such a pain in the butt lol

I was lucky enough to watch a friend's grandma make the perogies one year. It is a lot of work!!! But they utterly ruined me for storebought ones now, they just taste like garbage to me. :/
I feel like this is a FFFC (FFMC?) but I have never had pierogi! It's not really in my heritage, nor popular locally. They look tasty! My in-laws are bringing some Easter things for DD tomorrow. They're supposed to come while she's napping because otherwise she will have a total meltdown that she can't hug or play with them.
I just made some sourdough pizza dough and kneaded it for like 15 minutes by hand because my stand mixer broke... that was the best workout I have had in awhile. Are we going to do a cooking/crafting/baking thread this month? It sounds like a lot of people are at least going to be sewing masks
@blackgirlmagic I've been having issues with the app as well, and off and on with the mobile or desktop site also! I really feel like they broke something a month or two ago and haven't fixed it yet... The deck party sounds fun! I only know a few of my neighbors, but one has twins DD's age. I feel like she'd make a run for it if we tried something like that... 2 year olds are hard to reason with.
@ziggymama06 Onions and sour cream is exactly what we do!! I even posted a pic on FB from when I was there last Thanksgiving. I could die a happy woman eating them.
I want to do a solically distanced bonfire when it is a little more consistently warm. I miss seeing people that I know. Zoom hangouts with friends is nice, but it's just not cutting it.
I am really bummed about missing Easter this year. We always do a huge brunch at my parents' house, and breakfast food is my favorite. I'm sad to miss out on stuffed French toast and egg casserole. Plus my mom makes ricotta pie for dessert and it's so labor intensive that she only makes it once a year, and because her recipe makes two pies I always get one to take home and eat (by myself, because it isn't gluten free for H). Maybe I'll convince her to still make it and bring me one...
Add me to the list of people having app trouble. It actually mostly had worked fine for me (sometimes a little slow) until about a week ago. A lot of times when I open the app I can't like or comment and it doesn't show me new posts. It's very annoying 🙄
This week finally feels like spring and it's definitely helping my mood to have warmer weather and longer days. I'm going on a lot of walks and I love seeing all the flowers popping up around the neighborhood 🌷🌼🌸
Do y'all use the app next door? I have it downloaded but don't use it often. There are a lot of young couples in my neighborhood and I was thinking of maybe putting out a call for other soon-to-be moms to try to create a little community (and maybe even find some socially-distant walking buddies).
@rivercitynik People in my neighborhood are really active on Nextdoor, especially these days. There’s often a lot of nonsense, but since covid happened there’s been a really great community feel. I bet you’d get a lot of interest from other moms-to-be!
@ziggymama06@viola_mama I love making Pierogies!!! I made a fresh batch just a couple of weeks ago! This time I stuffed them with potato, bacon and caramelized onion. So yummy. The recipe I use is really quite easy!! Looks overwhelming and kind of time consuming but totally worth it! Served with sour cream, green onion and sausage 🙊 (Edit to add spoiler)
I love Polish food, there is a big Eastern European
population here so it's easy to get ingredients there is also an amazing Polish
restaurant that I can't wait to go to again after the lock down ends. My favourites
are sour soup (zurek) which has fermented rye flour starter, vegetables, garlic
and smoked sausage and pickle soup, (ogorkowa) which is just a vegetable soup
with pickles mixed in and clearly pierogies are great.
I personally add a bit more to the potato, as if I were making a mashed potato. As in sour cream, garlic, cream cheese, onion powder and so on lol then I add the onion bacon and cheddar cheese.
I'm jealous of all those delicious pierogies! I tried making them once and they sucked. I did something wrong with the dough! I'm getting so bored of the food I make at home. It's the same blah things over and over!
The app has also been sucking for me. About 50% of the time it won't let me "love" or comment on anything even though it says I'm signed in 🙄

@samsonator@rivercitynik@blackgirlmagic I’ve had the same problem happening to me with the app. It kept telling me to log out and update - I did once and that’s when this glitches started. So I deleted the app and re-downloaded later. Even though I logged in, it wouldn’t recognize me in the BMC. I’d go back, log in on that page and get redirected. Same thing. After deleting the app a few times and re downloading it, it seems to work now. 🤞🏼
Also, @samsonator I just posted the pierogi recipe I use and I love the dough recipe used in it!
Thank you so much! @charhar0820 yes I think the dough is key, and then you get to have fun with the filling! When I saw my friend's grandma make them (mine have all passed long ago) she made them surprisingly tiny, like little filled dumplings, so that might be neat too, to play around with the sizing. 🤷
DH bought a lamb roast (which I've never made before), so if we have lamb, perogies, and borshcht, I'd say that oughhta cover it for Easter!
ETA and of course, deviled eggs and bunny cake lol
I can tell this will be a good group for food inspiration 🙂
@wednesdaygirl1019 I'm also really bummed about Easter. My mom was planning brunch and she does a big ezrlteavagabt Easter egg hunt. We agreed to postpone it so hopefully in a month or so we can still do something.
Both grandma's are coming to drop off food and Easter baskets on the front porch so I am sure it will still be a fun and exciting day, but not the same without the rest of our family! Such weird times that we are living in.
Oh man shout out to the Eastern European foodies! My husband is a first generation Georgian immigrant(as in the country not the state just to clarify, but we do live in the state lol). Just Sunday my husband and I reheated some dumplings his grandmother had made and froze for us, I don't remember the real name for them, but I love them and they are also ate with sour cream or just some salt and pepper. Right now I'm living for Vinaigrette (recipe is similar to what we make) which is a hearty beat, bean, and potato cold salad. I've always loved it but my pregnant booty loves it extra right now (spoiler, it's all the pickles and we actually add sauerkraut to ours as well). I've also been dying to make more khachapuri (recipe linked is a similar style to how we make ours, we don't do the big boats, but the recipe itself is different from the one my family shares, we use ricotta instead of feta and don't use honey) but it's a pretty time and resource heavy undertaking and I just haven't felt like now's the time to do it.
I'm actually doing everything I can to learn recipes from my mother in law and my grandmother in law. We write them down, and we're now keeping them in Google Docs to share easily with my adult sister-in-law who sometimes will remember and ask for another recipe so she'll add to our growing folder. My in laws have been in America for a long time now, my husband hasn't been back to his home country since he was 6. In an ideal world we were hoping to go visit next summer with both children. There is a lot of family I've never met who have only seen my husband through a screen for a large portion of his life now.
@wildrainbow I’ve been having huge issues with the app. This signing in/kicking me off has made it near impossible to participate. I’m so irritated. Let me support my BMB, dang 😫
My family makes a huge batch of pierogis at Christmas time and then we freeze them and have them at other holidays like Easter. We get a whole assembly line going.. someone rolling, someone cutting, someone filling, someone closing.. it does take a long time but it’s a fun activity to do with my husband and my parents!
@MrsWheeler I’ve made air fryer French fries way too often during this time at home 😂 if getting those fries to go isn’t possible and you have potatoes at home, oven or air fryer fries have been hitting the spot for me
the app has never worked for me. The only way I can get anything on TB to work for me is on my phone with my WiFi disabled 😑
When logging in from mobile I need to turn off my wifi. Even then, the app doesn't open correctly and I just close the app and try again... sometimes takes three tries before it opens correctly.

That vinaigrette salad looks amazing! @RedBaramid that's great you are collecting all those recipes. My dad always made saurkraut, borshcht, perogies (but never from scratch that I can remember), and stuffed cabbages. But I'm happy to learn more traditional recipes of our people!
@ziggymama06 even when I turn off my wifi it doesn't always work . I have almost given up trying to log on when I'm not working. My ipad doesn't always work either. @WishesSheCouldCook I did not know that amazon prime had those kinds of videos. I keep on telling myself that I need to do something to be more active during this pregnancy. Being at home has put a real damper on my movement.

@fitandnerdy Unfortunately this one is very specific with where its wants the food from LOL Thankfully Hubby is very indulgent and will go pick up dinner from Red Robbin for me tonight! which is only 20 minutes away but I really want them from a restaurant that is 3.5 hours away in another state XD
@rivercitynik@cornichonmam Ricotta pie is this old Italian recipe that I've never been able to find a link to on the internet. It's essentially a custard pie with ricotta and chocolate chips folded in. So you make a custard, then add ricotta and chocolate, so it ends up similar to a cannoli filling in texture (a little firmer once baked, but still so creamy). The pie crust is sweeter than usual pie crust, and then you make a lattice top and put a chocolate chip in each little square. It's sweet but not overly so, and is so, so good.
Egg casserole...I don't even know how my mom makes it but it's made with eggs, bread, milk, and cheese, and then you bake sausage links on the top of it.
I think August 2020 is full of foodies. You guys are making me hungry!
Just a quick backstory: My husband actually knew that I was pregnant before I knew. He said based on my mood change he called it before I took the pregnancy test. Now this fool ;-) wants to tell me that he felt the baby yesterday evening before I did. He put his flat hand on my belly and said he can clearly feel things moving and was shocked that I can't feel it. I am trying to be convinced, that the pizza I had earlier that evening was all that he felt. But based on his previous predictions he might be right. LOL
@WishesSheCouldCook and @blackgirlmagic I was just coming here to share that the downdog app just added a prenatal version within the last day or 2! I know I got the recommendation to try the app from someone on here and it is free until May 1. If you're an educator or work in a school with a school email address, it is free until July 1!
Now I need to make pierogies. Thanks for sharing your recipe @charhar0820! I made a bacon-onion jam the other day and it needs to be eaten. I feel like this would be the perfect opportunity!
Holy hungry! Despite just getting a major grocery haul, I did not get perogies but now I think I need them! @MrsWheeler I laughed out loud at your craving comment about murdering someone for wedge fries. I have gotten cravings like this twice during this pregnancy, once for coke (the pop obvi lol) and once for McDonald's French fries (I haven't had McDonald's probably since high school, wtf?) and I would have killed for them at the time. It has been hard to have cravings during a pandemic! To not have the ease of shopping/drive through/etc sucks big time.
@maelove and @MrsWheeler I would do horrible things for an Arby's Reuben with a side of Jalapeno Poppers and Bronco-berry sauce. I mean, I'd give away my cats and maybe even agree to a divorce... I've been craving these since BEFORE we locked down in early March but because at that time I was on a very strict low fat diet I didn't allow myself to cave. I sometimes dream I get to eat these things. I remember when I was first trying to lose weight last year and I would crave junk and yes it would suck but maybe only for a little bit.. pregnancy cravings are so much worse....
riatortillaxo I saw that in my email the other day! I may just have to use my bil work email to extend the free part of the app.
Today has been the most useless work day ever. My drives are all messed up. I got them working this morning with the help of a coworker, but after an update on my computer I cannot access anything I need for work and I have so much work to do.
