  • @bows22 Good thing it wasn’t sent out yet!

  • @bows22 🤣🤣 I’m sure he has zero clue!
@inthewoods23 omg I’ve had days where I cannot send an email properly to save my life. I hate it. Tomorrow will be better though! ❤️
  • @inthewoods23 I’m of the mindset of If you really value it, do it! You’ll have to buy groceries and make car payments anyway. Do something for yourself girl!
  • @bows22 hahaha 😆 😂 that is awesome. That just made my day right there lol
  • @inthewoods23. I have a membership for a massage place and I use it to make sure I take the hour to myself (although I have a bunch of them stacked up...oops!).  Because I already have it budgeted, I am more likely to use it than debating with myself if I should spend the money on it.  Does that make sense?  I have been wondering if I should get rid of it in light of the part time job I have, but I can really tell if I haven't been in a while (from a mental health and shoulder soreness perspective).
  • @inthewoods23. I was thinking the same thing...hmmm...I could pack my house in anticipation of the move and have a great FW.
  • @inthewoods23 @dobiemom11 I LOVE kombucha girl! Put me down as another person who would not mind a quarantine!
  • I totally forgot it’s Friday the 13.
    Just. No.

  • How is everyone's work handling covid-19? We just got the memo last night that we are being advised to start working from home if at all possible. (East coast Canada). Military bases are shutting down for 3 weeks as well.

And my dog has a small puncture wound near his ear that needs to be seen. No clue how he managed to get that, but it is looking a little angry. Poor guy.

    Definitely Friday the 13th!
  • @nitnat007 I'm surprised we haven't gotten something from upper management considering there is an active case in the county where my work is. I think we're all just waiting for the expected notification of WFH for the foreseeable future until things calm down. It sounded like our HR was in meetings all day yesterday about it so I'm assuming we'll hear more. I'm in the Midwest where cases are on the low end. Our state has only 6 or 7 active cases at the moment, but those all popped up within 2 days ago or so. I expect that to continue to jump up a bunch in the coming days.

  • So far my company has not given any directive other than our direct manager giving over with our team some general, how to stop the spread / wash your damn hands and stay home if your sick kind of thing. Manager had also said that we can start working from home if we feel uncomfortable. I’m still not technically a perm employee until 3/23 so I still haven’t been hooked up with VPN access and am therefore hoping we don’t get asked to work from home till I have that!
Our county got its first confirmed case late last night. So I expect more to come and decisions to start getting made in the near future. Our mayor is supposed to be doing a press conference sometime today also. So we’ll see.
  • I work for local government and we're still up and running, however the Town Manger cancelled all non-regulatory board meetings until further notice. The state issued an update to the open meeting law this morning allowing remote participation by the regulatory board members and the public - however now each town is left scrambling to figure out how to even set something like that up.

We were told to start working from home immediately and until further notice. I have a feeling the schools around here are going to close soon too.

  • TW: unplanned pregnancy announcements

What is a polite yet firm way to tell a co worker that I don't want to hear anything about her accidently knocked up 21 year old daughter? It's bad enough that the girl suprised me by rubbing her bump and saying "I'm pregnant!" at work (daughter and mother work at same place) but to literally hear it in every conversation is bullshit. She just called me on my day off to say "so-and-so heard from so-and-so who works in the Pentagon that they are shutting the whole country down and I am worried about contaminating my PREGNANT daughter". She said it with emphasis too. Then she got mad at me for saying to calm down and wash her hands, avoid being coughed on, and that its no worse than a mild flu. She said "pregnant daughter" and "unborn baby" 8 times in a 7 minute conversation the day I got a negative test. 😓

  • My agency is woefully un-prepared for pretty much EVERYTHING.  It came to our attention a few days ago that the max number of people we can have simultaneously using our online platform to access our crap is like 200 before degradation continues (although some other 'official' declares it to be more like 300).  So in an agency employing over 3000 people, who are supposedly 'trying to figure out telework projects for people who don't usually telework,' but meanwhile we can only support maybe 10% of our agency teleworking at a time.  So yeah... it's a shyte-show and they won't even let those of us currently with a ton of telework to do, WFH to encourage 'social distancing'.  *sigh*
Bitter because I missed out on my shutdown 'vacation from the hell-hole that is my job' and now may not even get my quarantined telework 'vacation from the hell-hole that is my job.'  Way to suck "name of federal agency"

  • @legendairymomma hmmm... I was originally typing something that's similar to the "please refrain from mentioning pregnancy as it may be a sensitive topic for others", but I think you might be better off not even mentioning that and sticking to proper hygiene techniques and stating that everyone, including her daughter, will be fine as long as the spread of germs is minimized.

OR send her the damn Mama Doctor Jones video on the coronavirus and tell her to shut her trap.

  • @legendairymomma I'm guessing she knows nothing about your struggles TTC?  Do you want to avoid telling her/coworkers?  If so that will make it more difficult.  If not, just open up about it.  My whole office knows about my struggles and my 5 MCs and I've been SUCH an advocate to end the silence on the whole thing.  So for example, my coworker bitched for like 10 minutes straight about having to buy diapers yesterday (and she obviously is very informed about my story), and kept going on and on about how expensive they were and wah wah wah... and finally I was like, "You know what else is expensive? Paying for a ton of treatments and co-pays for your 5 dead babies that no one gives a shit about or thinks about."  And then she apologized and that was the end of the convo....
IF you are trying to be more private at work (which is also TOTALLY understandable) you could try mentioning something generic about trauma related to pregnancy related questions and HIPPA and that you can't discuss anything about it right now... ?

  • @legendairymomma I like how @inthewoods23 phrased it’s that it may be sensitive topic for some people. If you were feeling more open you could just straight up tell her that pregnancy and babies are a sensitive topic for you.Im sorry you even have to say something though. It’s annoying.
  • So, my desk at work is right next to where our entire Business Continuity team sits.... we have offices all over the country and they are receiving panicked calls from all over the country about corona. It is actually quite entertaining!
“One of our coworkers is on vacation on a CRUISE! What do we do??? ....No, we don’t know where the cruise went.... Between you and me, she’s kind of a pain and I think she won’t listen to us if we tell her not to come into the office when she gets back.” 🤣🤣
”We have a coworker who went to a baby shower and now she found out an infected person was there but she doesn’t know who and she feels great and has no symptoms but what do we do?!”

  • @capnjackharkness this is what gets me: SHE KNOWS!!! She knows that I have been trying since October. She KNOWS thats its hard on me.
  • @legendairymomma 🤬 seriously! Then you should straight up say “AS YOU KNOW, I have been struggling with fertility over the last few months and I find it hard to hear about accidental pregnancies.”
  • @nitnat007 we don't have the luxury of just shutting our office down but it's a small branch, only 6 of us and 1 of them WFH all the time. I can probably WFH if needed, which I will be doing all of next week following my FET. I actually just went and bought a printer/scanner for home because ours sucks and I need to be able to still send out documents. It's just our phone lines we have to figure out. I'm in financial management so we're busier than ever now that the markets are having a complete meltdown. Blah.

  • @legendairymomma Oh yeah... if she knows, shut it down.  May be a bit harder for you (NOTHING shuts down a preggo convo and makes it into an awkward pause, followed by some silence, followed by a topic change, than flippantly mentioning your 5 dead babies)... but it still should be something you should talk to her about.  Be like, "look, I get that you're scared, but I find this topic very upsetting, especially with the amount that you bring it up.  I understand you're excepted about the PG and worried about her health, but it's not something that I personally can discuss or deal with at this time."

  • Ugh. My agency just 'expanded' telework options for people who have to be home with children due to child care or school closings, even if they've NEVER teleworked before.  (Previous COVID-19 policy was basically you can only telework 5x a week if you are quarantined or taking care of someone with the virus).  So, despite me having ramped up the work I could do from home, and having 2-3 weeks of it prepared, I still have drive into contaminated areas, while others can 'telework' (using that word loosely since it sounds more like fake work provided to them while they really just get paid to take care of their kids) while 'monitoring' their kids (a HUGE telework NO-NO before coronavirus)... but thanks 'AGENCY' for reminding me again that I'm a barren hag with only dead kids...
