• @businesswife, same, minus the laundry. I had to follow up on insurance stuff from a medical situation this summer. I had to self-submit bills and despite doing everything in my power to have all the information required (including literally reading the list of items insurance gave me that the bills had to have to the providers' billing depts), there was missing information (which was NOT on the list insurance gave me, so I couldn't check for it when I originally submitted.) So I called the provider last week, and they said they'd send it to them the next day. My insurance does not have any obvious fax #s on their site, but I gave them one I found in an email. Following up today, nope, insurance hasn't got it. And turns out, it's probably because I gave them a wrong fax #. Why is there no obvious "fax # for providers" on insurance's website?

Anyway, on the plus side, from that incident this summer, I have bills from four different entities, and I can see that the second-largest of the two is paid! One less thing (to the tune of $8k) to worry about.

On the negative side, medical billing is a scam. I can also see in the insurance portal that my bill for the initial pregnancy bloodwork was paid. It was $650. But they're in network and so it was discounted to $150 and paid. How is that acceptable?
• @WishesSheCouldCook same thing happened to me. I did my bloodwork yesterday and had new test results in my portal when I woke up this morning. I knew it couldn't be the NIPT already, but it still felt like a tease.

Have any of you thought about how you will tell your H if you are finding out first? Last year I found out on his bday so I bought an "it's a girl" balloon. It took him forever (or 5 min and some nudging) to actually read the balloon. He assumed it just said "happy birthday" lol. I have no idea what to do this time. I will probably just tell my friends with a bunch of silly gifs.
• @psychobutthead That is so cool you are influencing your accountant's office! I'll need to check this out as well 😉

• @ziggymama06 its crazy that I have followed dave ramseys advice. I looked for people on instagram paying debt ofd too and follow them for motivation.

Also I'm atheist so i just ignore all the religious aspects of dave ramseys methods. I highly recommend his first book.

• @psychobutthead Good for you! You're an inspiration! I'm also impressed your taxes are done! I haven't even gotten my forms. My husband has his own business so he has to file all his business taxes before I can get his forms. So annoying!!!

@psychobutthead that's awesome! I would feel pretty good about myself if my accountant is taking financial inspiration from me!

ETA: andplusalso, I can't ignore how you are filing your taxes in January! I haven't even received my docs from my employer yet.

• Glad I’m not alone on the home front. I was worried I was the only one living in squalor 😂 although I did pull it together yesterday and cleaned up. Let’s see how long I can maintain this.

This morning, on my way to my high risk appointment, I hit a trash can that was in the road. And it smashed my passenger side mirror.

I’m annoyed at myself that I was so anxious and trying not to cry that I didn’t see it. And also annoyed that it was in the road! This wasn’t a neighborhood, this is a busy road that should not have a giant trash can out on the street. Blah.
• @tyrion_ I'm so sorry about that! It is such a horrible feeling when something like that happens. I hope it's an easy repair and be kind to yourself. It happens to all of us.
• @lachnessmomster We have finally gotten to the point where DS will pee on his own, but he insists we accompany him to poop. And of course, he usually wants me to do it, not daddy. Then it’s this long drawn out thing where we have to read him a book and eventually boot him off the toilet. It can easily take 15 minutes.

@tyrion_ I’m sorry that happened! It sounds really stressful, especially since you were anxious to begin with. I hope your appointment went well!
• @tyrion_ I'm sorry that happened. Try to not beat yourself up. You were stressing and it happens. Hope it's not an expensive fix!

@wildrainbow Hmm that sounds... interesting lol... I just had fries for lunch too. After stuffing my face I remembered how I wanted to eat lighter today because I'll have my first weigh-in at the dr later... oops.

• @ziggymama06 It's so good. Seriously.
• We are doing Dave Ramsey too! Much to my husband's dismay 😅 We paid off our debts last January (except for mortgage) and are now on baby steps 4/5/6. I don't know if we will be able to contribute the full amount to retirement/college and pay extra in the house once we have another daycare bill though. That will definitely be a financial shock.

• Add me to the list too. I've got Duplo in every corner of my house, among a million other jobs to do.
• @roo_baby I'm catching up here and just saw your note about bumgenius! We CD and really don't need anything other than a newborn solution (we rented last time) since DS should be potty trained by the time the new baby needs the one sizers. But I was doing a bit of price comparison on newborn diapers earlier this week and seeing those precious little covers with the little dip in front was the first time it really hit me that there's going to be a tiny baby in our lives again. Like, I know there's going to be another child in our family, but I've forgotten so much of what it is to have a newborn and it comes flooding back in the most unexpected moments.
• @psychobutthead that's an amazing story. Kudos to you for working it out!!

• @emiliadkay @roo_baby another CDer over here! When we first got home, I used the freebie disposables from the hospital till we ran out, but I wish I had been brave enough to start my nb cloth sooner, it was so easy! We have covers and prefolds,.as well as AIOs, and both were great. I just had to trifold the prefolds tho and not worry about any fancy folds, because my prefolds are such a tight weave, they won't take a snappi .🤷 Weird, right? So it was a learning curve when I already had so much new to wrap my head around, but I loved it. Let me know if you ever want brand reviews - I've tried a lot of various nb aios!
• @ziggymama06 hey, not sure if that was this thread or not, but if it makes you feel any better, my entire company knows already, and I only told one person who knew it was supposed to be a secret. I found out from my old boss, when I spoke to him randomly, and he wished me Congratulations, I actually told him I was still nervous, and we were planning to tell my husband's family on Saturday. So he was like oh wow, I know before his family!? And I was like yep!!!! 🤦🤦🤦🤷😫😫😫😭😭😭 Seriously not impressed.
• @riotortillaxo We have a nice chunky sloomb / sustainable babyish wool cover that goes over either their super thick bamboo overnight fitteds (first choice), or an AIO like the Rumparooz G2 or Grovia ONE are our go-to backups for overnight aios! + Wool cover to prevent leaks, and for coziness. The Rumparooz has a fleece layer, where the Grovia is more natural fiber, but we have had success with both, and really no skin issues, either.

Full disclosure, when the drier broke over the hilidays, I picked up some overnight disposables and have been working my way through the first half pack of those, but still with our wool soaker cover overtop. But I really should just switch back to our nice cloth, because it's not like they make it through the whole night anyway. It's just time to size up her fitteds so I've been procrastinating going up into the attic. Lol

What do you normally use for daytime?
• @riotortillaxo, we CD also. I use fitteds and covers. I fold up a prefold and tuck it just in the front. It's kind of bulky and big but doesnt seem to bother them. That worked until my older daughter was around 1.5ish, and then she started peeing through at night. So then we switched to disposables and now pull-ups for nights.
• @Businesswife @riatortillaxo @coldlife Well that settles it, we're going to have to have a CD thread at some point down the line! I definitely want your newborn AIO recs, @BusinessWife. As I mentioned, we did a newborn rental last go-round (after using up those free hospital diapers, because we totally did that too) and used mostly blueberry AIOs because that was what they offered. I didn't get brave enough to try prefolds until a couple months in, but then converted fully. For this kid, I think we'll do mostly prefolds + covers from the start for cost reasons but probably have a few newborn AIOs for those MOTN changes when you just can't deal and need something easy (and for grandparents, etc.).

@riatortillaxo We had a long stretch of overnight diaper leaking around the time DS turned one. Can you tell whether it's a compression, wicking or flooding issue? Ours was a combination of compression and wicking, and we've had most success adding a large hemp doubler between the prefold and the cover -- it's super slim and hangs on to so much liquid. We also gave up on the cute one-piece PJs and just started putting him in a onesie at night, which is a little looser and doesn't wick so badly. Basically a lot of trial and error, and it's been much less of an issue since we dropped the pre-bed bottle.

• Another DR follower. My husband and I were so wasteful for a long time. But money talks gave me anxiety and I’d shut it down. We started listening to his podcasts (individually in our cars) and it helped us to talk about them because it was OTHERS money and situations. Once we were comfortable with that conversation, we moved towards our own situation. We’ve fallen off but we will get back on it. I highly recommend his stuff.
I’m not a fan of his social views but it’s his show and I just fastforward or ignore. It’s also not every show that it comes up

• @sarah0985 yeah im not a fan of his views on gay marriage.
I got my husband into it by blasting dr youtube vidoes on our tv while cleaning or folding laundry. I picked episodes of people with similar lives to ours whether they did what my husband does, had our amount of debt, or made the amount he makes. He would pop is head in from the den often to comment on it. So he would totally listen in.

Its just so surreal to me that we are almost totally paid off.

• @psychobutthead Wow, you’ve inspired me to get my butt in gear! Congrats on coming so far.

Honestly, my down fall is eating out. It’s embarrassing how much money I literally eat.
• I've been trying to convince H to do DR, so thanks for reiterating that I need to double my efforts. @psychobutthead our financial situation is close to where y'all started and certainly having another kiddo will not help. The big thing will be making H stick to a budget. He is an impulse buyer. It will definitely be good for both of us.
• @samsonator I started the first season and thought the female lead was so intolerable that I couldn't get into it. Her "drunk" voice was like nails on a chalkboard. I was also a huge Gossip Girl fan, so I felt like Joe was pretty much Dan Humphrey's character if he turned out to be a serial killer. Lol! He's still just the creepy guy stalking everyone and being weird. It's just more extreme this time. :D
