So we had our girl name picked before we even conceived: Mila Lorraine. Lorraine is my grandma’s name and his grandma’s middle name.
We’ve been having a much harder time with boy names. Right now our front runner is probably Malcolm. Middle name will be Angus after husband’s deceased best friend.
I fancy myself a bit of a name nerd/snob, so I’ll leave my personal favourites list here in case anybody is interested! Girls: Mila, Poppy, Ada, Maeve, Noelle, Annika, Blair, Jocelyn, Greta, Fiona
@bbluemoo great name pics! I have a lot of similar top favs. My oldest son is named Callum. Which is a pet name for Malcolm in the UK. We were going to name him Malcolm but thought If we wanted to call him Callum to just stick with that.
no one agrees with me so far and we don’t know the sex of the baby yet so I have a lot of names on my list. My top favs are
girls:
Maeve Leona, Poppy, Isla, Josephine, Piper, Everleigh and Maisie
Our 4 year old is Easton Michael. We are unsure yet what baby brother will be but we have a few names: Branson, Anderson, Bennett, Grayson. Middle name Rey after a dear friend of ours, but spelled like Rey from Star Wars.
We had Emmalyn Grace or Brielle Grace picked out for a girl.
DS is Landon and DD is Hailey. We are leaning towards Jordyn if this baby is a girl. Boy names we haven't agreed quite yet. I love Connor, DH loves Ryan. I love Ryan too, but also want to keep the trend going of two-syllable six-letter names lol.
DS 1 is Henry Lee and DS2 will be Luke ??????? We had a girls name all picked out, Amelia Mae, but then the results came back back boy and it took a 12 hour car ride to pick just a first name and we still haven't decided on the middle name. I think coming up with a second boys name was so much harder because we already used our first choice and unwanted something that I loved just as much as DS 1s name.
@ReneeJ2011 same! We’ve known for the last 4 weeks we are having another boy but cannot settle on a name! Since we are so indecisive, we aren’t naming him until he’s here. So much harder this time around!
This one is our Lucy Anne Our first DD is a Rose. I’ve wanted a Lucy for years so I’m so excited we’re going to have one ❤️
I love reading all these names! As a teacher I’m used to seeing the naming trends but there’s so much in here I’ve never seen before! Gives me hope that if we have a boy some day I’ll find a name to use 😂
@ReneeJ2011 i love the name Henry!! But I totally get that fear of naming the second something you won’t love as much. I have three brothers and I remember my parents letting us pick the name for the youngest in the hospital room from their short list because they couldn’t decide 😊

@MssyMmmy great minds! A lot of your names were also on my list before I had to narrow it down some 😂 Callum as a nn for Malcolm is adorable too!
@chaos-and-coffee names are so hard. I would have no problem naming a baby on my own but when we both have to agree it gets really difficult. That’s a big reason behind the honour middle names - it takes some of the decision making away lol
I’m using this thread for ideas cause I am having such a hard time with girls names. My DS was named the moment we found out he was a boy. And I’ve had a second boys name for years. But girls names I am so stumped on.
Any advice on a middle name for Reid? This has been our boy name that we've been waiting to use since we chose it in 2013, but we could never find a middle name that went nicely with it. Any help would be appreciated!
@chaos-and-coffee I think with girls names I tend to like classic a little better. DS is William but has gone by the nickname Liam since birth. I’m not opposed to popular names but don’t want super trendy. I like there to be a full name and then a nickname too. But that’s not a deal breaker. What do you like?
@hanshotfirst77 I tend toward classic too. My husband is pushing for Kate, but our last name starts with K so I don’t like it together. I don’t love super trendy, and want a shorter first name if we’re going with Josephine as a middle name. If DS was a girl he would have been Isabel, but now I don’t love that with DS’s name.
I noticed a couple of you have chosen Josephine as one of the names, and I just wanted to say how much I love it. I especially adore the way the French say it. Unfortunately, it is a name my husband has vetoed.
DS1 is Felix Seiji - my husband is half-Japanese with a Japanese first name, and chose our son's middle name. We loved Felix for its Latin roots, its meaning - 'happy'/'lucky' - as well as the fact that it is a less-used traditional name.
This time around, just like the last, we are team green. But we are a little stumped on first names. For middle names, we have been playing with the idea of using Ren - Japanese meaning 'lotus' - for a boy, or Wren for a girl since it lends itself to both my European (British/Swedish) heritage as well as MH's Japanese heritage. For first names, the only common ones we seem to like thus far are Matilda for a girl and Magnus for a boy. I am a little hesitant on Matilda as it may be on the common side once we move to the UK. So, I guess names with current potential are Magnus Ren or Matilda Wren.
@kimber308 how long is your last name? If it’s not super long, I think I’d go with a longer middle name. Also maybe use the middle name spot to honour a family member or somebody else? That helps narrow down the possibilities a lot, which I find helpful.
Also your son will rarely use his full name so the flow of all 3 names doesn’t ~really~ matter. And you can always just not use a middle name!

After we found out the baby was a boy, we finalized his name. We are using the name we were going to use for our daughter, had she been a boy.
His name will be Michael Anthony. My dad’s name is Michael and my DH’s late fathers name is Anthony. The baby’s initials will be MAC, so we will be calling him Mac (mostly). I love the name Mac but DH and I both wouldn’t budge on using our dad’s names.
Mac will also go well with my daughter’s name (Murphy May).
Our last name is tough because it has a lot of Ns. We also picked our middle names first as they are family names. I was trying to use Bruce as a middle name for a while but it is tough so we are using my dad's middle name instead of his first name.

Names are so hard. Ds is named after dh and his dad. Being the third was just mindless. Of its a girl it will be Mae Bell but if it's a boy I have no idea.
I like Charlie but I don't like Charles, and I think it would be weird to have Charlie as the legal name. I have toyed with Walter (my dad's middle name) but I'm not sure a good middle for that. Dh and I both think it's a girl so we haven't much thought into boy names. Anatomy next Tuesday, so I'll worry about it after that if I need to.
@chaos-and-coffee I feel like it's even harder for #2 cause you want to love the name but also for it to go well with #1. I just keep feeling like the perfect name will come to me. But it hasn't yet about 5.5 months to go lol
Thanks for all the suggestions for middle names for Reid. We have a very long last name - ideally about two syllables for a middle name seems to flow the best. We will keep thinking! I added a couple of names to my list to send off to the husband. Thank you!
We’re kind of boring but have adopted the pattern of a traditional/Biblical first name and a family name for the middle name. DS1 is Michael Drew (DH’s name) and DS2 is Joshua Charles (FIL’s name). We’re team green and if this little one is a boy he will be Samuel Steven (grandfather’s name) and if it’s a girl she will be Lydia Kathryne (my middle name passed down through several generations).
Anyone else into super non-traditional yet not completely you-neek names? Like Apple and Chicago are too far out for me, and silly spellings not so much, but definitely we like names that have never been on a top-100 list.

My name is pretty unique I think. I’ve always enjoyed it and never had another kid in my class with the same name. Although anyone else I have met with the same name (like 2 in my whole life) was a boy/man.
if anyone is interested it’s Merrick. My mom paired it with a really feminine middle name. Personally I probably would have named a boy Merrick over a girl. But I like it
@pourmeanothermocktail I really like Cordelia for a girl but I'm pretty sure the hubster is going to use a veto for it. He likes Heinrich for a boy which I don't love.

Would you believe I know two Cordelias under the age of 10? Every time I hear it I think of Sin City the movie where that was Nancy's code name when writing letters to the cop who had saved her as a kid. I'm weird.
